Help with Straight Talk and Net10 MMS Picture Messages

Every day I get about a dozen or so request from Straight Talk and Net10 customers asking for help with getting their MMS picture and group text messages working. I noticed I am repeating myself in the comments so I set up this help page.

Make sure your data connection is working before trying to set up MMS. If you aren’t getting data, getting MMS to work is unlikely. See the next answer to find out how to get dat working.

Set up Your Data and MMS APN
Set up your smartphone’s MMS APN settings if you haven’t done so. Check the Guides  to see if their is a guide for your phone. If not, check here How to Setup Straight Talk Data and MMS for your Android or other Smartphone.

Test Both Sending & Receiving MMS
Make sure to test MMS in both directions, it helps to know if MMS is partially working.

Call Straight Talk / Net10 Support
Tell them your MMS isn’t working. Ask them to reset or reprovison your account. Tell them MMS is working for your friends using the service. Keep asking, can’t you just reset my account. This approach has worked for some. Others just are told it won’t work.
Escalate Your Support To the Tracfone
Straight Talk, Net10, and Tracefone are owned by the same company. Some readers have reported escalating the issue to the Executive Resolutions Group at tracfone solved the problem. Do a google search for the phone number.

Try different APN settings.
Many people fix their MMS problems by trying different combinations of APN settings. Specifically the MMSC and MMS Proxy values. If your phone supports using a different APN for data and MMS you can try using one or the other APNs for MMS.

Reset Your Phone
Sometimes powering you phone off and on fixes the problem. Resetting settings can also help. Restoring your phone to factory settings. Alway back up your phone first though

      Hi Tiara,
Did you try setting your APN type? Use default, mms, wap for the ATT SIM or default, mms, supl for the TMobile SIM.

Hi, I have a Cubot GT90 & recently Net10 just de-activated my phone. I called them & they reset my phone. It works fine except I also cannot receive pictures. It seems whatever settings is working for everyone else does not work on a Cubot jellybean phone. Can you help?

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi Connie,
I’d try deleting an then re-adding the APN. If that doesn’t work. You might what to clear you old messages and see if that helps. You might just try waiting a few days too. So some reason when accounts are reactivated, the MMS doesn’t work properly. Oh, and which APN settings are you using?

Hello. I have an LG-L40 G with a NET10 $50 unlimited plan. It is a NET10 phone (not a bring your own phone), but over the last month, I have had trouble with downloading MMS texts from senders.

I played with my APN settings and was able to figure out a combination that lets me use data (browse the internet, use apps that require internet) and send MMS, but I can never download received MMS texts.

The settings that are default on my phone are as follows:

    APN: tfdata
    Proxy: not set
    Port: not set
    MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.come
    MMS Port: 80
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 410
    APN Type: default,mms,supl
    APN protocol: IPv4

However, these settings do not work for data for sending/receiving MMS texts.

I tried the following that worked for data:
    APN: wap.tracfone
    Port: 80

Any suggestions? I have tried many combinations, still no luck.

HTC ONE M7 straight talk AT&T 4GLTE sim not sending or receiving MMS. I have internet but no MMS. I receive MMS and it says downloading but after a while it says fail. Updated to kitkat and MMS stopped working. Can u help? Thanks

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi Kim,
If you recently transferred your phone number to Straight Talk, it can take several days to start receiving MMS. I have had this issue with new accounts. If you had MMS working but it broke after the KitKat upgrade, you may need to start fresh. Use the Reset to Default from the APN settings page, delete and APNs, on the phone and re enter your APN. If that doesnt work, let me know what you settings you are using.

    Hey Bob,
I have not been able to find a correct setting to allow me to send MMS. As you requested previously I have restarted my phone multiple times and I still can only receive them. Are there any settings you think I can try that will work? I have read and attempted multiple apn settings since the first time you gave me one, and have set it back to what you originally told me since that worked for a day. thank you for your assistance I truly appreciate it.

I can’t send or download MMS but internet, text, apps, etc work fine. I have a bring your own phone from AT&T that I am using with Straight Talk. Have been on the phone with ST tech multiple times and they said my APN settings were correct and that my phone must be locked since my APN Type field was not allowing me to change it (it is greyed out and when I touch it nothing comes up.) I got an unlock code and unlocked my phone but the APN Type field is still greyed out. How can I set the APN Type since it is greyed out? Thanks!

I can send but not receive mms on my GS3. It all work on my note but when changed to S3 mms stopped working. I changed apn a few times and finally can send. Can u help.

  12. Chris | | Reply

I tried the apn change and it unfortunately did not work. And whenever I change the mnc type to 410 the entire apn setting goes away when i save it. I had tried that a few times before. It’s odd to say the least

Hey Bob sorry for the delayed response. I am only having trouble sending. I can receive them fine. I have tried restarting my phone multiple times. Also, I have been able to send two mms at different times… different people and carriers. All other attempts have failed. I can not find anything to explain it.

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi Chris,
Try removing the APN type. Restart Test
You can also try MCC: 310 MNC: 410

Hey Bob, I have restarted it a couple of times and i can receive mms, just not send again.

Hey Bob, last night when I switched my settings it worked perfectly but today I attempted again to send mms to try it andIit will not work now. Any ideas why it would stop?

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi chris,
I am not sure. Are you having a problem with sending, receiving or both? Try restarting your phone if you have not.
      Let me know.

Thank you so much! I just restarted my phone with those two minor changes and I can send mms. Everything else on my phone works perfectly as well and thank you again. If anyone else has a vzw galaxy note 2 and is using straight talk with a tmobile sim, the settings i listed along with the changes Bob told me to make made day phone work exactly as it did on verizon. Awesome site and extremely helpful.

Hello Bob, I can see that you are very helpful for a lot of people on here and I am hoping you can provide me an answer as well. I have a VZW Note 2 that I switched over to StraightTalk with T Mobile sim. Everything on my phone works fine with the exception of sending MMS. I can receive them, just not send. I have tried multiple MMSC and port changes and have struck out multiple times. MY current settings are below, any assistance would be greatly appreciated it.
    apn: wap.tracfone
    MM port: 8080
    MNC: 260
    APN type: default,mms,supl
    APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi chris,
      I’d try:

1, removing the port 8080. Leave the mms port.
      2. changing the APN protocol to IPv4

Let me know how it goes.

I tried putting in the values that were recommended for the blu studio 5.0 for straight talk using the at&t sim card, but without success. Is there another value for the APN besides tfdata?

  19. claire | | Reply

I too have a blu studio 5. phone, after 8 days of trying to receive pictures via text, I have to agree it is not anyone’s phones fault. so I will be looking for a another carrier such as aio they are also a at&t spin off. obtw the apn changes given here work. thank you.

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi Claire,
There are a number of prepaid wireless companies using the ATT network. Let me know if you want to discuss. Are you saying the APN changes did or did not work.

  20. Lisa | | Reply

I am using a BYOP. AT&T, Samsung Galaxy S2. I purchased the AT&T sim card & for the most part it works. I feel the internet is slow, regardless of the phone saying it’s using 4G LTE or how many bars I have. I too have the same issue w/not being able to receive MMS text. I can send them w/an image just fine. After reading posts for hours, I am under the conclusion it is the Straight Talk service that is the problem. When you see this statement after the setup directions, it doesn’t help their cause: Updating your APN settings does not guarantee that MMS (Multimedia/Picture Messaging) will work. MMS is dependent upon your phone model’s limitations. If you have an iPhone and you would like to use MMS, you may need further changes in your iPhone in order to update your MMS settings. You may search online for more information.

Logically, it is not every phone under the sun that has this issue, especially phones like mine that worked fine using another service. Sadly, I hope Straight Talk fixes their issues, in the meantime, it is one reason the service is cheaper than anywhere else.

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi Lisa,
If you think your phone is slow install SpeedTest and measure your speed. You can post it here and I can tell you how yours compares to mine.

You are correct. Straight Talk and Net10 Wireless do not guarantee MMS for their BYOP plans. I can tell you I get the most requests for help with MMS. The problem is often caused by their service, the phone, or both. I wrote this page to share the information I have learned about the problem. I have also recently come to believe that you might need to wait days or weeks for receiving MMS to work after porting your old number. That happed to me this month with another phone I ported.

Some people fix the problem by tweaking the MMS Proxy and MMSC values. Sadly, there isn’t one fixz that seems to work for everyone.

Let me know if I can help.

I’m running android 4.2.1 and have tried all the different APN settings from everyone and the best I can get is MMS Send but STILL NO MMS RECIEVE :( Everything else is working – voice/text/hs internet but cannot download the MMS messages when they come in. I know it’s not the phone’s fault as ST says because I only recently switched to them and my old sim in the same slot still works fine. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi Sara,
If you tried all the recommendations on this page, setting the APN type, trying all the MMSC and MMS Proxy combinations. etc you might want to try waiting a few days. I set up another Straight Talk account with and ported a number it took a few days for receiving MMS to work.

  23. kris | | Reply

yes. i think ive tried every combo there is! i even downloaded ST apn app off google play, that didnt help either. i get the mms it just never downloads when i click download.
