How to Setup Net10 Web, Data, and MMS for your iPhone running iOS 6

Net10

UPDATE: 10/8/2013
I have a new guide for iOS 7.
How to Set up Net10 Web, Data, and MMS for Your iPhone Running iOS 7

UPDATE: NOV 19 2013

Many readers are reporting problems that they are having trouble sending or receiving MMS over the last few days. If you are having a problem please leave a comment here: I Can’t Receive MMS Picture Messages Using Straight Talk or Net10 on My iPhone Using iOS 7.0.4

I wrote this guide to share with you how I setup Net10 Wireless Access Point Name or APN for Data and MMS Picture Messaging to work on my iPhone 5. The guide should work for any iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, or iPhone 5 that is running iOS 6.

If you have an iPhone running iOS 6 and your Data, your MMS, or neither are working, read on. If your  Net10 Data or MMS is not working for some other phone, you can leave a comment on this page.

If you are looking for the  Net10 network settings  or Net10 internet settings or Net10 APN this is the guide for you. If your voice and / or SMS isn’t working, this guide won’t help.  You can leave a comment on this page other readers may be able to help.

Configuring the Data and MMS APN for iPhone and Net10 Wireless

You can use two different methods to configure your iPhone’s APN. Method 1 only configures your data APN, but not MMS. Use Method 1, if you don’t care about picture messaging (MMS). Use  Method 2 if you want MMS or Picture Messaging to work. If you have trouble following either method, leave a comment at the bottom and I will try to help you.

Read the entire guide and make an give it a try before leaving a comment to ask for help.  Follow the Next Page link to begin reading the guide.

      Hi Elizabeth,
Is your phone an iPhone 3G or 3GS? What version of iOS is installed on the phone? Check it general settings about. What is the model number on the back of the phone?
      Regards
      Bob

I have a net 10 SIM card in can I leave it in to do all this I’m confused I need step by step if its possible please email me and easier way for me to understand how to do it I just want to be able to send and receive picks that’s the only thing I can’t do thank you !

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Tabitha
Read the entire guide. I wrote it to explain what you need to do. I recommend readding it on a computer rather than your phone.

It shows you step by step what to do. Which iPhone are you using? Does the phone have iOS 6 or iOS 7. You Net10 SIM is either for the Net10’s ATT or Net10 TMobile network, do you know which.
      Regards
      Bob

Hi Im currently trying to get the APN/MMS to work but I do not have the Cellular Data option in my iphone under step 8a nd 9 what should I do?

  9. Lorna Sterling says:

I have to keep rebooting my phone to get 10mins of internet service and it just started that after this last update

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Lorna,
Ok. Which phone are you using? which SIM the Net10 att or Net10 tmobile sim? what version of iOS are you using? what carrier is installed. Look in Settings General About to find out the last two. Is your data slow?
      Regards
      Bob

  10. XMAN says:

Thank you so much. Worked perfect for me, iPhone 4, 6.1.3. Please don’t EVER take this web page down. For some reason I’m fine for a couple of months and then I have to redo this process all over again. This is the third time I’ve done it in a year.

  11. Nikki Brown says:

Does the T-Mobile sim have to be brand new or can it be a used sim for setting up mms? Thank you!!

    • Nikki Brown says:

I have a T-Mobile sim now but I have been unable to get the cellular setting to work. My phone is locked to ATT. Is this possible with a locked phone? I am unable to have it unlocked since I am not the original owner nor have an ATT account. I have looked over the guide and have done everything but reset it with ITunes. I have read over the guide and faqs. Am I missing something?

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Nikki,
You can still always ask AT&T to unlock it. The worst is they can say is no. If you know the original owner you can ask them to unlock it. If you do the iTunes Restore, it is possible the phone might unlock.

I have never done this with a locked iPhone. Many readers swear it works on their locked iPhones. Others don’t seem to be able to get it to work until the unlock their phone. So all I can say is that it seems to work for some people. One reader told me you need to be very fast to get into Cellular Data Network on a locked iPhone, so see if you that helps.

If you are using iOS 7 and your APN is tfdata, its possible your phone might work without the SIM swap. Try the iPhone Restore, if you are using iOS6 and want to stay on iOS 6 be carefully not to update to iOS 7.

Let me know how it goes.
        Regards
        Bob

I ONLY HAVE A PROFILE OPTION TO CHANGE IPN INFO ON MY IPHONE 3GS, IS THERE A WAY TO CHANGE OR DO I HAVE TO USE IAPNUPDATE DEAL? I HAVE BEEN USING THAT BUT CANNOT SEND OR RECEIVE PIC MESSAGES

  13. DANNY says:

ON MY IPHONE 3GS I DONT HAVE AN OPTION TO CHANGE ANY OF THE APN SETTINGS, JUST THE PROFILE WHICH I CURRENTLY HAVE THE NOT VERIFIED NET10 PROFILE

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Danny,
I am not sure what you are asking. Take a look at the guide. Install the APN profile to get data working. Try the SIM swap to set up both data and MMS.
The guide shows how to do this.
      Regards
      Bob

  14. Teresa says:

Hello I tried your method 2 with no success. I have an iphone 3gs and I had to install cydia in order to get the intenet and the mms working. I was told that if I turned the phone off I would lose the mms and the internet. For some unknown reason the phone went to safe mode and some time later the mms and internet stopped working. I called net10 and installed the update (iapnupdatetfdata.net10.com) and got the internet running but the mms was still disabled. This is when I found your website and tried method 2 to get the mms running. Well it didn’t work and the internet stopped working. I can get it back up tomorrow when I get wifi. I am pretty sure the problem is having to turn off the phone at the end of the process I think this disables the cydia and nothing wants to work afterwards. Does this make sense? Can you recommend any further actions to get mms and internet running? Thanks for helping us out, it seems like you’ve put a lot of effort in this :)

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Teresa,
I don’t use jailbroken phones so I am not familiar with the issue about powering off the phone. You can try data and MMS without powering off the phone and see if it works, it might. You can also try the airplane mode trick. After entering the settings. Turn on airplane mode for a minute then turn it off. Then reboot the phone. Some readers swear this works.

How are you entering your APN information. Did you SIM swap and go to Cellular Data Network, or get some app from Cydia? FYI: iapnupdatetfdata.net10.com will only set up data, not MMS.

      Regards
      Bob

  15. Marie medouard says:

I can’t receive or send picture message on my phone thank you please fixe that

  16. Kris says:

Thanks for putting all of this together, Bob. I’ve got an iPhone 4 running iOS 6. I am trying to set up MMS using the sim swap method but when I take out my Net10 sim card, it says No Sim until I restart my phone. I can get to the APN settings page but when I put my Net10 sim card back in, it still says No Sim unless I reboot. Then the APN values I manually entered don’t stick and nothing works. Any ideas?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi,
I am not sure I follow.
When you take out your Net10 SIM it display NO SIM
When you put in the T-Mobile SIM the display should change from No SIM to Searching to No Service.
when it says No Service you will see the cellular data network option
Next when you put the Net10 SIM back in the phone, it should display No SIM, Searching, and then HOME
You should go into Cellular Data Network when the display is showing searching, or is this where the problem is.

      Regards
      Bob

  17. Albert Wallace says:

Yes when i enter my cellular data APN. When i go back up to it. Keep changing back to what it was

    • Bob Thompson says:

See the iOS 7 guide if you are using iOS 7. How to Setup Straight Talk Wireless Data and MMS for your iPhone running iOS 7.

You need to be quick to do this or a try this little trick. Enter all of the other values needed except the APN.
Enter the MMS APN and copy the APN name to the clipboard. If you scroll up carefully to the Cellular data APN you will see the text input cursor is still in the MMS APN. Keep both APNs displayed on the screen at the same time. Now tap the Cellular Data APN and paste the APN name is. Quickly look to make sure that both APNs are right and save the settings.

      Regards
      Bob

  18. Joseph Greene says:

When I swapped the cards under general, cellular it never popped up with the settings to change the network settings

  19. Nikki says:

Is that only way to get mms? What if I don’t have a T-mobile sim?

  20. Eugene Raeuber says:

I have an iPhone 3gs and get to step 4 and 5 of method 2. Even with my T-Mobile sim inserted I cannot get it to display the cellular data network option. I restarted the phone and it still does not give me the option.

  21. Nicholas says:

    Hey Bob:

Everything is working fine even MMS !!

    Thanks

  22. naz says:

i tried all of the options for net10 listed and none of them are working.

  23. Ricardo says:

    Hi!

I have an unlocked iPhone 4S from Sprint. It was working perfectly but since the iOS 7 update I dont have data or even SMS! I have no idea what to do… Can anyone help?

  24. Brittany says:

    Hi, there.

So. I read your entire blog and found it very helpful. Now my question is a very silly one, but I’m really confused.

I have an iPhone 4. I want to setup a net10 account and be able to talk and text on this phone. However, I’m not sure what to do. Do I purchase a net10 plan and then follow your procedure, enter my APN values from my purchase, and then it will work? Or do I have to buy a SIM card and a plan and then follow the procedure? I just want to be able to call and text on a pay as you go plan. I’ve been confused about this for a long time and I feel your blog can maybe help me figure this all out.

    Thanks!

    Brittany

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Brittany,
Yes. I can help you. Moving to prepaid is confusing. But you did the right thing by researching it first. I set up this web site to help people figure this all out. I do spend a lot of time helping people who have already switched to Net10 or Straight Talk.

So, lets get started with a few simple questions. Your iPhone 4. Is it on AT&T or another carrier? And is your phone on contract?

      Regards
      Bob

  25. Mimi says:

It works!! Method 1 worked fine for me. Iphone 4 unlocked. Thank you so much.

    Cellular data tfdata
    MMS
    APN wap.tracfone
    MMSC http://mms.tracfone.com:80
    Personal hotspot tfdata
    MOST IMPORTANTLY:
    in the messages section
    iMessage turn this OFF

  33. Rebecca Niemerg says:

Where can I purchase a t-mobile sim card that will work? I have never used T-Mobile.

  34. Samindu Chandika says:

    Samindu

  35. Sean says:

Also, if I purchase a Tmobile SIM card and follow the steps outlined, do you think it will work in getting the mms messages to send and receive on my ATT iPhone?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi, Sean
You will not see the cellular data network option until you insert the tmobile sim. Most readers are able to get mms working I think some have problems. If your 3GS contract is up, AT&T should unlock your phone for free.

      Regards
      Bob

  36. Sean says:

I have a unlocked iPhone 3GS formally on the ATT network. I am attempting to use the phone on the Straight Talk Network. I have followed all the steps in restoring the phone and I am still not getting the Cellular Data Network. What am I doing wrong?

  37. Carlos says:

    Mi phone don’t send pic.

  38. Lexay says:

Is there anyother way then using a tmobile simcard?

  39. Carina says:

I’ve been using the sim swap method for a while with success. Thanks for the tips on iOS 7. I noticed that even after upgrading to iOS 7.0.2 that the settings still stick which is great compared to before. I usually had to sim swap after each update.

If you’re having the iMessage issue, apparently its a known iOS 7 bug and they’re working on it. I had that issue but fixed it by restarting the phone. Something so simple works!

  40. Joy says:

I have a 3GS with iOS 6. Everything worked until step 4. I turned the phone off twice, but “Cellular Data Network” never shows up. Any thoughts as to why? Am I out of luck using this method?

    Thanks for your help.

  41. john says:

when I go to install it it says first remove profile net10 before installing so if I delete the profile will I loose my internet? bc its currently working just not my pic messaging????? I have iphone 4 7.0

    • Bob Thompson says:

      John,
When you install the profile, It will only configure your internet, not your mms. If you want mms, you need to remove the profile, and yes you will lose internet temporarily. This is because in the second part. You are going to configure data and mms together at the same time.

I tell people to do it this way because it will help you know which APN you need to use so you won’t have to try so many settings to get mms working. Also, try the ios 7 guide. How to Set up Net10 Web, Data, and MMS for Your iPhone Running iOS 7

Let me know how it goes.

      Regards
      Bob

  42. Arun says:

    Thanks its working fine. net10(iphone).

  43. Ron Capriotti says:

    Hi Bob,
I plan on buying a iPhone 5s from Apples website, and then using this article to set it up for Net10’s service. Would this method work since I would not be buying the phone through Net10? Would I activate the phone through Net10 after this or before?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Ron,
If you buy your iPhone 5s from Net10 or Straight Talk you will be getting an iPhone that runs on the Verizon network. If the ATT and TMobile network have poor coverage in your area, this might be a viable option but i general I wouldn’t recommend it. You will be paying full price for a Verizon CMDA model iPhone, rather than an ATT GSM model. If you want to resell it at a later time, I think the GSM model sell faster and for more money.
Also, your Verizon model iPhone 5 will only get Verizon 3G service on Net10, not 4G or 4G LTE. Both Net10 and Straight Talk have recently started supporting 4G LTE. I am in the process of upgrading my SIM so I can get the super fast 4G service. You’ll need to order a SIM from the web site. You might also want to consider Straight Talk, which could be a little cheaper, you need to factor in taxes, fees, and whether you enroll in auto pay.

See Net10 & Straight Talk Wireless Taxes and Feesfor an example of some of the cost calculations I did in the a previous article. Please let me know of you need more help. The goal of this web site is to help readers, but I really like it when people come here for information before they make a choice of phone and carrier.
      Regards
      Bob

      Regards
      Bob

      • Krista says:

Hello does my phone have to be jail broken in able to use net10?

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi Krista,
No it doesn’t. The page you left the comment on is a guide that shows hoe to set up an iPhone on Net10. It’s easy to get data to work, a little bit harder to get MMS picture messaging. Some other features don’t work. Take a little time and look through some of the content on smartphonematters.com. I have written a lot about making an informed choice.

I am a little pre-occupied with updating the site with iOS 7 information. Check back though I am working on a guide about moving your iPhone to prepaid. Let me know if you have more questions.
          Regards
          Bob

  49. Corrin Hallock says:

Although your instructions were very useful. I do not have a tmobile SIM card to make it work per mms. The one offered in the net 10 package is unfortunately a standard size. So I cannot swab. Any suggestions?

How I get my mms to on on iPhone 4 net10 ios7

  51. Christy says:

I have a iPhone 4S and I have used method 2 to set up web, data and MMS before and it worked great. But I just upgraded to ios7. Will method 2 still work? I have not tried it yet and am wondering if will work. I just now ran method 1 and now have web and data. Please let me know if method 2 will work, thanks.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Christy,
I tried Method 1 for Net10 with iPhone 5 running iOS 7 and it worked. I will be trying the SIM swap today. Keep an eye on the smartphonematters.com home page. I will be posting an update there after i try it.
      Regards
      Bob

      • Christy says:

I just ran method 2. I had to do it a couple of times because at first it would not work(entering the values) but I ended up using the carrier APN Settings (tfdata) when I would enter the values under the APN it would erase what I typed (tfdata) and replaced it with the word ‘phone.’ It would change it automatically. So I made sure I while scrolling up I had both APN “boxes” in my view. Make sure they both say what you have entered and not ‘phone’ kinda stressful until I figured it out. One may change to phone while the other may stay what you have entered. But what’s important is: IT WORKS!! :)

  52. MSSLVZ says:

Thank you. I was on the phone with Net10 for several hours the past few days. Hoped I would not have to talk to them again for a while. I did not !!
Your explanation and photo guide was excellent. Once again THANK YOU.

  53. Dee says:

I don’t have a tmobile sims card to use method 2 & I would like to have picture messages.

  54. Lisa says:

Hello. I’ve tried both methods you posted for Option #2. I still can’t get the picture message working. I’ve tried many things and am totally frustrated. I appreciate your help.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Lisa,
Is your data working? Which APN are you using for data?
      Regards
      Bob

      • Lisa says:

Hi Bob. Yes, data is working. Everything on the phone BUT picture messaging via text is working. I can email photos and send via WhatsApp, just not through MMS. I tried the APN settings you had for each option. The one that works with other data services is tfdata. I spent hours on the phone with Net 10 Wireless tech support and also Apple. We could not get this part working. So frustrating!

        • Lisa says:

I also tried the sim swap as well. It did not seem to hold the settings and just would not work. I tried it over and over again.

          • Lisa says:

BTW. . .I have an iPhone 4 with an AT&T compatible sim card. The phone is an unlocked AT&T iPhone. I have not yet upgraded to iOS7.

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi Lisa,
Did you install an APN profile on your phone? If so, did you remove it before before SIM Swapping? If you did not your data will work but not your MMS. Also try some of other MMS values for tfdata that are in Net10 Data, Internet and MMS APN Frequently Asked Questions

          Regards
          Bob

          • Lisa says:

Hi Bob. I got a new T-mobile SIM card to swap out (99 cents on eBay) and had upgraded to iOS 7. This time it held the APN settings from the SIM swap and now the MMS is working. Thank you so much for your great advice! Net 10 Wireless ought to pay you something for your efforts and use your posts on their website. It would make things much easier for customers and potential customers.

Now if I could only get my voicemail notifications working on the iPhone! That’s the other thing not working properly since switching to a new Net 10 SIM card after porting my phone number.

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hey Lisa,
I am glad to hear that you followed through with getting the T-Mobile SIM and where able to get MMS working. Make sure to write down the values that worked for you and put that SIM in a safe place in case you need to do this again.

            Regards
            Bob

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hey Lisa,
Would you mind answering a few questions about your experience porting your phone number?
Did you port your number when you signed up or afterwards? Di you have any issues with the port? Did you do it from the web site or over the phone?

            Regards
            Bob

          • Lisa says:

Actually I just discovered that the voicemail notifications are back working! Somehow or other, the SIM swap seemed to have fixed that. Cool!

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hey Lisa,
I wonder if it is related or just took a while to start working. I’ll keep this in mind if anyone reports a similar problem.
            Regards
            Bob

  55. Rick says:

Does an 3GS running 4.3.3 work with NET10?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Rick,
It should be able to. My guide is for iOS6. you can update your 3GS to iOS 6 or see if you can just access the Cellular Data Network settings. If you phone is jailbroken, it think you can find a new jailbreak to

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Douglas,
Do you have an iPhone? Did you just switch to Net10 and you are trying to set up your phone? Finally, did you read the entire guide and try to follow the steps? The page you left your comment on is a multipage guide that shows step by step how to get data and MMS picture messaging working.

  62. Juan says:

I can confirm that this works on iOS7 on an iPhone 4S. Many (many, many, many, many) thanks for the tutorial.

FYI, I couldn’t get to the APN settings after putting in my Net10 sim card – the only way it would work would be:
    1. Put in T-mobile sim
    2. Go to Cellular Data Network
    3. Tap the first input box to edit it (don’t need to type anything, just make sure the keyboard is brought up)
    4. Remove T-mobile sim and put in Net10 sim – throughout the switch, the phone should stay in the Data Network page with the keyboard up

The first set of settings is what worked with mine :D

having trouble after another restore on iOS7 :( the few times i get to Cellular Data, the APN name automatically reverts to “phone” after i put in the proxy (66.##…). sometimes i can beat it and restart the phone, but still no data :(

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Juan,
Keep in mind this is all a timing issue. You put in the tmobile sim, Cellular Data Network (CDN) appears. When you remove it and put the ST Att back in your phone’s status will go from No SIM to Searching.. During this time it’s possible to get back into CDN. At some point in this process, your phone is going to populate the att values into CDN. You need to wait until after the att values have populated before you put in your values. If you see the APN change when you are typing in the proxy just change it again try it a couple more times you should be able to get it.

Let me know how it goes.
        Regards
        Bob

        • Juan says:

Finally got it to work again! But this time I was sick of trying to beat the clock, and just downgraded to iOS 6.1.3, then restored my backup, set the APN settings per your guide, and updated to iOS7. Everything’s working like a charm now :)

  65. Christian Fernandez says:

Hey thanks for your work and helping people!
I currently don’t have a factory unlocked iPhone 5 (nor is it jailbroken). I was wondering if the SIM swap method you describe using the T-Mobile SIM requires a jailbroken phone or factory unlocked phone. I am currently with a Net10 SIM on my iPhone and I can make calls but no data (method one didn’t work for me, none of the Safari Net10 APN’s worked). Can I buy a T-Mobile card from eBay (about 3 bucks) and simply use that to get the Cellular Data Network option? It doesn’t have to be an activated T-Mobile SIM? Thanks in advance!

I responded to Christian by email

Hi I read his comment about you having an iPhone 5 that is not factory unlocked or jail broken and working on net10. Is that possible? And if so how. Thanks:)

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Carlton
Straight Talk and Net10 are both what are known as Mobile Virtual Network Operators. They buy network service from ATT, T-Mobile, and Verizon. If you have an locked AT&T iPhone you can use a Straight Talk or Net10 ATT SIM. You will be able to make calls and send texts. You will need to download and APN profile to get your data to work. If you want both Data and MMS you need follow the steps in my guide. Getting MMS working on your locked iPhone isn’t 100% guaranteed.

If you have a Verizon iPhone 5 you can put an ATT SIM in the phone and it will work the same as described above. This is only for the 5 however, not the 4s or the 4.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Blaine,
Do you mean you downloaded and installed an APN profile using Safari? (method 1 in the guide)
or did you do the SIM Swap and go into Cellular Data Network and enter the values directly?

    Hi Bob,
When tring to change APN carrier settings (you suggest trying various “net-xxx” version until one works….I get reply Profile Install failed, an apn payload is already installed. As it it won’t let me install…is there a way to uninstall before trying other net-xxx id? I have Iphone 4 v 6.1.3

Incidentally it now says invalid SIM. Thank you for your willingness to help those of us less capable!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Stef,
You need to remove the old profile before you can instal the new one. Look at step 12 and 13 again.
I don’t know why your phone says invalid SIM, try removing it, reinserting it, and restarting your iPhone and see if that helps.
Let me know how it goes.
      Regards
      Bob

      • Stef says:

My apologies, I didn’t see 12 & 13. I was able to uninstall, but after trying all the netxxx options, I’m still without service. The invalid sim card moniker disappeared after I turned the phone off/on again.

I bought the micro ATT SIM from ST…viewing several of the older posts looks like there was a problem but recently looks to have resolved. Card arrived yesterday. Any other suggestions? Again, thank you!

It is very frustrating…. not to mention that i have this site bookmarked so that i can come back to is easily but i alwqays forget which setting for for me so i have to go thru all of them until i find the right apn settings….. ugh

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Angie,
Sorry to hear that you constantly have to reconfigure your iPhone for data and mms. I have had a number of readers with the same or similar problems. I am not sure why some people have the problem and others do not. Does this happen randomly? Or when you plug your iPhone into your computer with iTunes for example?

You can check my Net10 FAQ… Some people report doing a factory reset on their iPhone helps with this problem. I use Net10 with my iPhone 5 and only had this problem once when I received a carrier settings updated dialog.

If you are in the process of setting you phone up again remember to write down the settings that work for you. I’ll follow up with you by email. Maybe we can figure out what causes this.

      Regards
      Bob

I have an unlocked iphone 3gs IOS 6.1.3. I just switched to Net10 from Tmobile. Your guide helped me both with data and with text but I cannot send an image via text. When I use the Net10 Sim card, I cannot see the cellular data settings so I have to change/correct the settings while using the Tmobile sim card. Each time that I change the APN settings while using the Tmobile sim card, once I switch over to Net10 to test, which results in discovering that images still cannot be sent, I then try again. When I reinsert the Tmobile Sim so that I can access cellular data settings, I see that all of the APN settings that I just corrected have switched back to those that I had erased (the original Tmobile settings) and not the most recent ones that I had inputted. I would appreciate any suggestions that you can offer. Thanks for your great guide.

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Judy,
        Just to be clear.
Make sure you are putting the T-Mobile SIM card in, removing it, putting the Net10 SIM back in, and then entering the values. That is you enter the values with the Net10 sim back in before Cellular Network disappears.

The problem you describe in normal. Your iPhone thinks your Net10 SIM is an ATT SIM, because well, it is using the ATT network. The iPhone fills in the values for you. The settings you see when you put the T-Mobile SIM in, are not for T-Mobile, they are for ATT.

One thing you can try is after you enter each set of values, is turning on airplane mode for a minute and turning it off again. Some people swear they need to do this to get the phone to retain the setting properly.

Let me know if you need more help.
        Regards
        Bob

This Net10 is really BS! I got the $50 package with the tiny Sim card for the iPhone 5 at a local Radio Shack, They setup my voice but they said I need to setup the APN for data myself. So I tried but can never get data to work. I call Net 10, they don’t even has a customer service for mobile device, once the creep from Net10 heard I have an iPhone, he just transfer me to Apple. My advice, stay the hell away from Net10, it’s a total rid off!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Rich,
Sorry to hear about your problems with Net10. I agree that the experience is not seamless. I setup this site to share with people how I got my data and MMS to work. Did you try following my guide? It shows you step by step how to do it. It’s unfortunate that Net10 data and mms dont work out of the box. But at half the price of ATT,etc the extra effort is worth it for many people.

      Hey Igor,
Its an issue between Net10, AT&T and Apple. No one have 100% responsibility and thats why it doesn’t get fixed.
I am glad to hear the guid helped!

  92. Michael says:

This might be a little weird and long but, I had the net10 unlimited on my AT&T iPhone 4 and everything was working fine until today i had iOS 7 put on it and had to restore it. Now i have iOS 7 but i cannot find a way to get my data and iMESSAGE to work ive tried restarting it and taking the sim out and even changing the APN online but it still wont work i ordered my micro-sim in the mail so i do not have a T-Mobile sim card to try to “swap” it. Everything is working fine i just need to turn get everything to work.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Michael,
It’s not really weird, you installed a developer beta on your iPhone and you need to figure out how to get stuff working. I haven’t put iOS 7 on my phone yet because I only have one iPhone and I used iOS 6 to help people out here on smartphonematters.com.

I assume you are saying that both your data and your iMessage are not working. Can you or have you tested your iMessage using a Wi-Fi connection? that way you can eliminate that as a problem and focus on getting your data working. Now, do you know which APN you were using before you updated to iOS 6? Which APN profiles did you try on your iPhone and from what web sites? Did the profiles install properly?

If you go into the iPhone settings can you see the Cellular Data Network settings? In iOS 6, its Settings->General->Cellular, I am not sure if it is the same in iOS 7.

I am not sure the SIM swap will work in iOS 7. I have never tried it. The SIM swap is kind of a hack and there is not guarantee it will work on iOS7.

If you answer the questions above, I can try to walk you though it.

      Regards
      Bob

My iMessage does not work without using wifi I’ve had the phone using the net10 service since October 2012 and it’s been fine the profile was called Net10 many of my friends have the same profile and also installed iOS 7 and their phones are working perfectly fine my phone says I have 3G but when I try to test it by going to safari it says my data is not connected. I also do not see cellular network data

  93. Millie Jackson says:

Excellent step by step guide! I tried method 2. The second set of inputs worked for me. I can get on the Internet with my WiFi turned off, and I can send picture & text messages as well. BUT… When I left my house & went down the road, Internet quit working. Kept getting the message that my iPhone was not connected to the Internet. I have an unlocked iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3, using the Net10 AT&T SIM and the T-Mobile SIM cut down to change APN settings. When I tried to look at my APN settings again after I returned home, it appeared that they had all been deleted. Any advice on what I should do from here?

    • Millie Jackson says:

Something else that’s quite strange… After I re-entered all of my APN data, I could send pictures but not receive them. I turned iMessage back on and now it appears I can send & receive pictures & messages to people with iPhones but no one else. With iMessage off, I can send/receive text but no pictures.

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Millie,
Hmm.. It’s good to know that you were able to do the SIM swap. I’d recommend following method 1, and lets see if we can get data working reliably for a day or two at home and when out of the house. After that, let’s try the SIM swap again
For some reason, unknown to me, some people report losing their settings infrequently or even frequently. Once you set the APN values in Cellular Data Network, you cant go back and see them and if you SIM swap again, they are usually erased. That is normal.

It’s normal for iMessage to work without MMS. see:
        http://smartphonematters.com/guides/understanding-the-difference-between-mms-and-imessage-on-your-iphone/

Also some readers have a problem with MMS, and it can sometimes be corrected. See my Net10 FAQ
        http://smartphonematters.com/guides/how-to-setup-web-data-and-mms-for-your-iphone-running-ios-6/

Let me know if you need more help.

        Regards
        Bob

        • Millie Jackson says:

Thank you. I will try that. Now that you mention it, it makes sense that the values erase themselves when inserting a different SIM.

          • Millie Jackson says:

Ok I’ve gotten data working reliably for the past several days. (I did the SIM swap again.) Still not able to send or receive picture text messages to/from anyone who does not have an iPhone. Any ideas? You’ve been a great help so far thank you!

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Millie,
Which APN setting did you use for data att.mvno, tfdata, or wap.tracfone? FYI. The issue you are having is that your MMS picture messaging is not configured correctly, you can send picture messages to other iPhone users because you are using iMessage which uses you data connection. If you would like to understand a little more about the issue. Check out: http://smartphonematters.com/guides/understanding-the-difference-between-mms-and-imessage-on-your-iphone/

Hi Bob, I am using the wap.tracfone APN setting. On 8/19, when I sent you the last message, I tried all of the other settings but with the others I didn’t have 3G. As of today, I can no longer send MMS picture messages to anyone, not even those with iPhones through my iMessage. Not sure what happened, as I haven’t changed any settings since 8/19. Any suggestions?

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Millie,
I am not sure. Is your data working? can you browse the web? Is it possible you used a lot of data and reacheed you limit? It is possible that you received a carrier update, updated your iPhone. I suggest just repeating the steps you did last time. If you have a problem, email me or leave me a comment here.
            Regards

      • Abby says:

I ended up calling net10’s technical service last night and they had me open safari on my iphone using my household wifi and go to a specific web address that popped up a window to install a profile. That worked and was so much faster and easier. Now I have phone, texting, and internet all working with the exception of group texts and picture messaging which they said they don’t guarantee in their small print. So, it’s not necessarily cheaper than a regular pay as you go plan from a major carrier because its not comparing apples to apples (same services).

They pretty much told you to do what I said in the email I sent you. Many people do get MMS to work by following the second part of my guide. It doesn’t work for everyone though. You might want to take a look at ATT Pay and Go. It’s $60 a month and i think they do offically support MMS and group texts.

          Regards
          Bob

  111. Mandy says:

I have an unlocked ATT iPhone 4 IOS 6.1.3 using Net10 ATT sim.
The carrier settings that worked for me are:
    APN Name: tfdata
    APN: tfdata
    MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
    MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com:80
    mms max message size 1048576
    MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

I took out the net10 sim and put in the T-mobile sim. I brought up the cellular data settings and kept them up on my phone while I took out the t-mobile sim and reinstalled the Net10 sim. Changed all carrier settings, hit the home button, then rebooted. I also had to go back into settings and turn iMessage back on and Facetime. Everything is working flawlessly.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Mandy,
This is awesome! You did it! And should shared what worked for you with everyone else. Remember to bookmark the site and keep the T-Mobile sim someplace safe in case you need to set up the phone again.

Hi Bob, I am having issues getting the data and mms to work on my Iphone 3gs with tmobile sim. I have tried both methods for getting data, but with no luck. I spent 3 hours on the phone with Net10 technical help but they couldn’t explain why it didn’t work still. I tried using the wap.tracfone apn as well as the the others offered on Unlockit.co.nz.
    Can you help me?

  117. KT says:

Before I try the guide and mess things up…my iPhone 4 (formerly AT&T) has the Net10 service working for calls, texting, and even picture messaging. The only thing NOT working since I had to reset the phone back to factory settings is the data service. Should I go through the steps of one of these guides to get the data to start working again?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi KT,
Good questions. smart to check up front. For most everyone, calls and SMS text messages work fine with the Net10 SIM in their iPhone. People generally have issues with data and MMS picture messages. You are saying that your voice, text, and picture messages are working but not data. I have not had anyone ever report this case before. Are you sure your picture messages are working? Are you connected to a WiFi network? Do you understan the difference between MMS and iMessage?
      If not, check out: http://smartphonematters.com/guides/understanding-the-difference-between-mms-and-imessage-on-your-iphone/

I’d say if your data is not working, you need to try something… and most Net10 users are able to get data working with minimal effort. MMS is a little harder, but many get it to work. It kind of depends on how badly you want MMS picture messaging to work. I’d say read through the whole guide (The one you left the comment on) and give it a shot.

      Regards
      Bob

My wife and I just finished our contract with Sprint and wanted to try Straigh Talk for the great price. Since they don’t sell the ATT sim cards anymore I tried the T-Mobile sim. What they don’t tell you is that they use the T-Mobile prepaid towers not their normal towers and reception was so scarce where I am. I switched to Net10 since it’s another company owned by Tracfone, but they have ATT sim cards, and everything other then MMS was working. I followed your “Method 2″ and used the “tfdata” settings and everything works now, Data and MMS. Thank you so much. I am in the Palm Springs area if that helps anyone with their setup.

Hi, I am not tech savvy at all, so I need help :)

I just switched from straight talk to Net 10 using an AT&T compatible I phone.I guess my cellular (calling) is working as well as my data( getting the internet), but I can not send or receive pictures via text(I guess that is mms). My friend also has an AT&T compatible iphone she is using with Net 10 and hers is working perfectly. I tried the steps you said, however I don’t have a T mobile sim card to switch with. This phone has an old AT&T sim card in it. Any thoughts how I could get the mms working? THank you!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Kailee,
Do you know if you are using the Net10 AT&T SIM or the T-Mobile one? Is it possible you reached the 1.5GB per month data cap. When you reach the limit your data will stop working until your next billing cycle.

My only question is does this work on a locked iPhone? My phone just has a Net10 sim in it but is still technically on AT&T.

  126. Meeko says:

Hello. I have an unlocked iphone 4s and an At&t sim through Net10. I’ve tried all of the Net10 options and not a single one of them work for me. While on one of them, I believe it was the Net10 iphone option, if I typed something into Safari’s search bar very soon after switching off the wifi, it would load it, but anything I would try to do after that wouldn’t work. It It would say the server stopped responding. I am not sure if it was just a leftover from the wifi or a fluke, but I’m not sure what else to do. Please help :(

  127. yolipook says:

WOOOOOOOOOOW…unfreaking believable. I spent like an hour typing up my super long post AS I tried everything then not 10 seconds after hitting “Post Comment” I tried opening up chrome and it ACTUALLY opened up. Safari, also. Retried sending MMS/Picture message, actually says it went but waiting on reply to confirm. Imessage working. Opened WAZE and it calculated route and let me open the report police window. SOOooo…I guess I’m up and running. My Wi-fi has been off the whole time and I double checked so I know it’s data.
Here are the final settings that worked:
FYI: This on an unlocked, AT&T, iPhone4 that IS jailbroken and running tetherme to access the “Cellular data network” button/APN settings

APN (cellular data and MMS): wap.tracfone
    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33:80
nothing in MMS US Prof URL

I am in Houston, not sure if that matters. Thanks EVERYONE for your willingness to help others with this stuff!

  128. yolipook says:

I got an unlocked, ATT, iPhone 4 and activated it with Net10 last fall sometime. Luckily I never updated the iOS to 6.1.3. About a month ago a friend showed me how to jailbreak. I had tried shortly after updating to 6.1.2 (like that day) and jailbreak wasn’t available so after a day or so of researching I just forgot about it.
About 2 weeks after jailbreaking (June ’13) we went on a long road trip and I had purchased MyWi as my kids were whining about not having internet in the car. I used it for a few days with no problem then the last day of our road trip I started having data connection issues. I thought it was because we were in the middle of nowhere but my texting and talk still worked. It came back intermittently the rest of that day then on for about 3 hours then that night as I neared home it went out again. The next day it was still out so I deleted my unlockit profile and reinstalled it. I tried all of them, there’s like 8 of them, and none of them worked. I have now been without data and mms for two weeks and finally tried the sim swap to no avail. The cellular data network button keeps disappearing. I tried as stated in this guide, I tried changing settings after swapping net10 card back in and I tried changing settings before, I tried the airplane mode on/off trick and it only worked for a few seconds and as soon as i tried to open safari/chrome/app to get the “no data connection” message i would go back in to find the settins via “cellular data network”, it would be gone again.
    I tried SEVERAL times.
FINALLY, since my phone WAS jailbroken, I did just download tetherme and the “cellular data network” button was there!
However even with the tfdata settings, which just popped up, I still didn’t have data or MMS.
I tried the att.mvno settings, nothing.
I tried the wap.tracfone settings, nothing.
I tried all with and without the “mms US prof URL” string, still nothing.
I did not reset, I did not back up, restore to new then restore back up. I’m just tired now. If anyone has any other SIMPLE suggestions, I’m all ears. I’ve already spent 2-3 hours working on this today and don’t feel like going through the restore steps, right now. I’ll update if I get anything to work. Thinking about switching to lycamobile after 7 years with Net10 :( Thanks.

    Hi,

Hopefully you’re able to answer this as quickly as I need it to be. I’m working on my grandfather’s phone, who is visiting me today from another state, so my time’s limited. I’ve tried the different settings you provided, but none of them are working. I’m not sure if the APN settings are being saved. Every time I give the settings a change, the NET10 SIM’s fields are reverted back to the default “phone” entries. I would think they would show what I last edited them as, yeah? I tried placing the phone in Airplane Mode for a few seconds before turning it off, as I saw some users said it helps save the APN settings, but still no luck. Any suggestions, mate? Thanks again for the great guide.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi James,
Are you entering the values after you have removed the T-Mobile SIM and inserted the ATT SIM back in the phone? not with the T-Mobile sim in the phone.
You also need to make sure you wait long enough for the ATT SIM starts searching. Also make sure you don’t have any profiles installed.

BTW. Email addresses are used for direct email support and for spam filtering.

Did SIM swap and data worked fine for a week or so then stopped working so I did SIM swap again and data worked for a few weeks then stopped again. After a few cycles if this I finally did a full restore prior to swap and now can’t get data to work ever. When reinstalling my net 10 SIM my phone never regognizes my sim (continues saying there is no sim installed) until I reboot my phone at which time I lose access to reset apn settings. What suggestions do you have for me? This is on a iPhone 4S. My iPhone 5 works fine.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Brent,
I am sorry to hear about this. Some readers do report these types of problems. I am not sure I have an answer for you. Here are some suggestions that might help.

      1. If you can get a nano to micro SIM adapter, try your iPhone 5 sim in your 4s. If it works without an issue the problem may be the SIM card. If possible, try to test your SIM card in another 4s. You could cut it and test it in the iPhone 5, but then you would need to use the SIM card adapter in the iPhone.

      2. Check the fit on your SIM card. are you using a micro SIM yourself card or did you cut the SIM yourself. make sure it isn’t loose.

      3. Reset your network settings and see if the problem gets better.

      4. If you can live with data only for a while, install one of the APN profiles and see if your data setting persists reboots.

Let me know how it goes.

      Regards
      Bob

Hi Bob, I have read your entire post and it makes sense but after purchasing a T-mobile sim off ebay and following the instructions, it never displays the Cellular Data Network. The iphone is a 4 from AT&T and factory unlocked by AT&T site after contract was fulfilled. I removed the Net10 profile, rebooted the phone, went to Settings, general and cellular and it shows the same thing with the T-mobile sim, that it shows with the AT&T Net10 sim. Do you think I may have a bad T-Mobile sim? It says invalid sim sometimes but then I reboot with the T-mobile sim and it does recognize it. It just doesn’t change the Cellular page.

I have my Iphone 4s up and running on Net10 and can send and receive data. I now will try the SIM swap method with the TMobile sim card. My question is…will I now be on the Tmobile network for coverage or will I be on the ATT network when I get the MMS working? Tmobile has terrible coverage where I am at so I definately want to be on ATT. Don’t want to do anything to change that. Please advise

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Maria,
The SIM swap isn’t going to put you on the T-Mobile network. Let me explain. Thanks to Apple, iOS 6, and / or ATT, when you put a ATT network sim (let your net10 sim) in an iPhone the settings page for Cellular Data Network is not visible. When you put in a T-Mobile SIM card, it is visible. To get MMS working, you need enter information on the Cellular Data Network. So the SIM swap is a trick to be able to get to that screen and enter the needed values. That’s it.

      Regards,
      Bob

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Erik,
I hear a lot of this. I have never heard a good explanation of why some combinations work and don’t. Did you look in my FAQ and try the changes I recommend? Which APN are you using for data?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Courtney,
I’d you ge t your data connection working first, by trying the SIM swap method? If so, which profile worked? If we know that, we can figure out which values to try first.

Without that you will need to try all the different values.

      Let me know

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Tom

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Tom,
Did you check to make sure you do not have any Net10 Carrier APN profiles installed? If so they must be removed or you will never get MMS working. Since you commented that you read the FAQ, can I assume you tried some of the alternatives for MMS?

Oh, and which profile is working for data?

      Let me know
      Regards

Look at step 13 under method #1.
Look at Step 0 & under method #2

So glad I found your site!

      • Tom says:

Thanks for getting back to me. There is no option for APN profiles. I began with method 1 and then deleted the profile and moved to method 2. Now there is nothing listed. • gina says:

Sorry to ask again..do I need a different Tmobile SIm for each activation or can I reuse the same SIM for the sim swap method?

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Gina,
You are welcome to ask questions and that is a good question. You can use the T-Mobile SIM to do as many iPhones you want. All the T-Mobile SIM is doing is allowing you to get to the Cellular Data Network settings. Those settings are hidden when any att network sim is in the phone. The one thing I will remind you is that if you update your iPhone’s iOS in the future, you may need to do the SIM swap again. So, if you use the T-Mobile SIM, and then give it to your sister, or a friend, you may not have the SIM card when you need it again.

            Regards,
            Bob

      Hi Jess,
Glad to hear you got data working. Unfortunately you do need a T-Mobile SIM to do the SIM swap and get MMS working. When you bought your Net10 SIM did you get one SIM or a three pack?

  163. Kizzie says:

I am very grateful that I stumble upon that webpage.

I have the very same problem and have been looking online for a fix for a very long time. I have an iphone 4s, and I have been with net10 for almost a year, and I have not been able to send picture text or mms.

I had the At&t Sim installed without being able to use mms, then I switch to T-mobile sim when they cap the data to only 1.5gb. I hardly talk on the phone, I use a lot of data and text, but even when I switch to the T-mobile sim I still cannot use picture text.

Once upon a time, mms used to work with my iPhone 4s because I have sent and received picture text from my mother who has a Metro PCS android phone. I’m not much of conspiracy theorist, but I believed one of the companies, be it Net10 b/c they want you to use their phone or Apple/At&t because a lot of people are switching to prepaid have removed this feature or they did something to remove the mms.

I have tried the Sim swap with the “tfdata…” when I had the At&t installed still would not work. I am now with T-mobile and the only setting working is “wap.tracfone” still no mms/picture text.

If anyone knows how it works, please reply.

    thx

  164. Casey says:

Is there an alternative to the sim-swap method, and if so, would you please email me directions? I understand it is more tedious, however my T-Mobile sim is currently located in another state. Thank you!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Casey,
The last person that tried it told me that after she followed the directions her phone wouldn’t connect to iTunes anymore. I don’t want to recommend those steps anymore until I can verify it works. I have shared the link with about 10 people. One person told me it worked, one person told me here phone wouldn’t sync anymore. The other 8 people I never heard from again.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Steven,
That is a good question. I don’t know the answer maybe answer. Maybe we can figure it out. Most people looking around here are on iOS 6. What version of iOS are you using on your 3G? Do you know if the phone is unlocked? and btw.. will you need unlimited calling? are you a heavy data user? maybe we can find you a more affordable option.

I have a new iPhone 5 on 6.1.4 I tried thesim swap method several times, but have not been able to get it to work. It seems each time I swap the t-mobile sim back into my phone the apn settings are all blank, so I put them back in then swap back to my AT&T sim, but it never works.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Eric,
I want to see if i understand. are you saying that:

      1. You have a Net10 ATT SIM
      2. You put in the TMobile SIM
      3. You go the Cellular Data Network settings
      4. You put in the APN values and save them.
      5. you remove the TMobile SIM and put the ATT sim back in
      6. it doesn’t work.

Is this what you are doing?

Daughter has Iphone 4 with 6.1.3 version. Was ATT phone, switched to NET10. Can’t send/receive picture texts to non Iphone users since change. Net10 has been no help, they have had her go to iapnupdatetfdata.net10.com & install. Comes up showing Net 10 profile not verified. Told me Iphone problem, not theirs. Any chance on getting this fixed or do we have to dump Net 10? And if we dump NET 10 is our Iphone now messed up to go back to ATT or somewhere else. Please help, thanks!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Tracy,
I am sorry to hear you MMS isn’t working. Did you read my guide? It shows step-by-step what you need to do to get MMS working? Take a look at the guide and if you have questions let me know and i will try to help. Most people that read the guide have MMS working in less than an hour. If your iPhone 4 contract is over, be sure to ask att to unlock it for you. See the post on my blog.

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi Meredith,
The last feedback I from a reader has that her iphone wouldn’t sync with iTunes afterwards. So I am not sharing that method until I have a change to try it for myself and write a guide. A lot of readers are reluctant to go out and get a Tmobile sim. You can find them for a couple dollars on ebay.

If you bought the 3 pack of Net10 SIM cards then you have a tmobile SIM you can use.

          Regards,
          Bob

  173. Ray says:

I am able to change the data network settings and data works but MMS doesn’t. The cellular data network file is gone as soon as I reboot – 3GS. I’ve read AT&T does not want third party users (Net10) to have this access and they have a way to delete this setting even thought the phone is “unlocked” Any thoughts?

  174. Carlos says:

After you enter your APN settings put your phone into airplane mode for about 20 seconds which will force your apn setting to remain then you can safely restart your phone…everything else worked fine once i tried this method it worked instantly

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Carlos.
Thanks for sharing. I have heard people mention airplane mode before. I have never needed to do that.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Ben,
This is great news. I love it when readers take a moment just to let me know that the guide worked. Very happy to hear you didn’t have to call Net10 support!

Does this work with the iPhone 3gs? The data works but not the MMS. I also don’t see where you can change the settings under the cellar data as referenced above. • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Sha,
Did you do the SIM swap?

      Regards,
      Bob

      • Sha says:

Yes three or four times. Does this only work on a unlocked phone? I saw a U-tube video where they did the exact same thing you described in your blog and it says this will not work if the phone isn’t unlocked. Is that true?

        • Bob Thompson says:

          OK.
You did the SIM swap. Did you get to the Cellular Data Network options? If the answer is no.
          Try the following
          backup your iPhone with iTunes.
          remember, backup
do a full restore with iTunes (check the option to reload the iOS)
when you are done your phone may unlock
You can also ask ATT to unlock your phone.

if the answer is yes then:
          Go to settings / general
look for a profiles option. If it is there, tap profiles. more details. tell me the name in the APN section.
Remove the profile. Restart your Phone. test dataa ans

  180. Rebecca says:

    Hi Bob,

I just switched to Net10 two days ago. I have a new unlocked iphone4 that I just bought. I updated the APN and got the data working…everything except MMS works. In my Net10 SIM card kit, I only received the AT&T 3G micro SIM card, not any t-mobile SIM card. In order to try this SIM swap, do I need to purchase a t-mobile SIM card? Would that still work, even though it would be a different SIM card number?

    Thanks so much!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Rebecca,
You do need a T-Mobile SIM. I can be any T-Mobile network SIM. It doesn’t need to be active. The only reason we need this SIM, is so that we can access the Cellular Data Network. Try the SIM in any old prepaid phone, or buy a SIM on ebay. They go for 99 cents to 4.99

I want to just let you know that some iPhone 4 owners report not being able to get the SIM swap to work. It works for many, but I do hear from some that say they can never get to the menu.

There is another way to do this without the SIM. It’s kind of tedious. If you want to try that let me know. The SIM swap is easier.

      Bob

      • Rebecca says:

        Hi Bob,

    Hi!
My iphone is a iPhone 4. I am changing providers from AT&T to Net10. I did all of the steps but cannot get my picture messaging to work yet. Also, when I put in the T-Mobil SIM that I cut it does not read “no service” it reads “HOME” but I cannot send messages or make calls from that SIM card. Would I be able to switch the SIM to the TMobil one next month even tho my phone is not unlocked and is from AT&T?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Faith,
Ok. So you are using the Net10 AT&T SIM., your data works, but not picture messages. Is this correct?
I have never heard anyone say they get the HOME network indicator with the unactivated T-Mobile SIM. But then again, i have heard a lot of strange things in the here in the comments. If your data is working, what APN are you using?

I am not sure I understand why you would want to switch to the T-Mobile sim next month, to get MMS? let’s try to get it to work with the Net10 ATT SIM first.

      Regards,
      Bob

  182. James T says:

I recently left a comment after all went well using the sim switch with iphone 4. Well now I’ve upgraded to an iphone 4S. I repeated the process but got stopped at No. 1. not finding the Profile. You stated in No 1- If Profile is present. What if Profile is NOT present. What is the next step. Please advise. Thank you.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi James,
The next step is 2. If the profile is present you remove it. If it isn’t there, well you cant remove it. :-)

Sorry. I probably added that step, after you used the guide the first time. You see if you use method 1, it installs a profile. People did that, moved to method 2. But if you dont delete that profile, the values you enter in the SIM swap, won’t work. So a bunch of people used method 1, got data working, did the SIM swap, and their data would work buy not MMS. And that is maddening.

I will update the guide to say to go to step 2. thanks for pointing out that could be confusing.

Let me know if you get that iPhone 4s going!

      Regards,
      Bob

My mom’s boyfriend gave me his old IPhone 3GS so I could use it as a Net10 phone. He set it up himself by using videos on youtube. We put my SIM card from my old Net10 phone into the IPhone. When I went to set up the IPhone a message came up saying “SIM Locked Insert a valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate IPhone”. And When I clicked ‘unlock’ a password lock came up, it was similar to the kind of password to get into an IPhone if you set one. The only thing is, I didn’t set a password. Would it his old password? Or would I just need a new SIM card? Or something else? Please help, I have no idea what to do.

  186. Randy says:

Fought with the MMS thing for awhile and finally got it working on my iphone 4 running 5.1.1. We’ll see if it survives the upgrade to ios6. Here is what I did that finally worked.

    1. Removed the apn profile and verified cellular data DID NOT work by trying to use safari.
    2. Turned on wifi
    3. Went to the unlockit.co.nz site and installed the NET10(tfdata) APN profile.
    4. Turned off wifi
    5. Verified cellular data was working using safari.
    6. Went to the homescreen and did the sim swap with a t-mobile sim. While it was “searching” I went to settings->general->network->cellular data settings (This menu finally popped up once the phone said “no service”)
    7. As soon as the cellular data settings option appeared I removed the t-mobile sim and put in my Net10 AT&T sim card and tapped on cellular data settings.

I used the following settings (same as above, but with proof URL added)

    Cellular Data:
    APN tfdata

    MMS:
    APN tfdata
    MMSC http://mms-tf.net
    MMS Proxy mms3.tracfone.com:80
    MMS Max Message Size 1048576
    MMS UA Proof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

(I obtained the UA proof url setting from a youtube video, not sure if it’s required)

    8. After backing out of this menu using the top-left button I tried data and it worked, and then I attempted to send an mms message with a pic to an android phone and it worked.

I’m not 100% sure why it finally worked for me, but if your data connection isn’t working before you change these settings you will definitely not get MMS working so solve that problem first. I have a hunch that once you find a working Data APN it should also be used for the MMS APN. Without a working data connection you won’t be able to do DNS lookups on the hostnames or transfer the MMS content.

    • Randy says:

For some reason the max message size field didn’t populate above, it should be 1045876.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Randy,
Thanks for sharing your experience. You are absolutely correct that you should focus on getting Data working first. Often I hear that some people need to call Net10 to resolve issues when they can’t get data to work. Setting the APN from a profile is relatively easy, its just a matter of finding the one that works.

As for the MMS UA Prof URL, some people claim they cant get MMS to work without it. I myself have never needed to use it. I have never head a claim that it prevented anything from working so I may just add it to the guide.
Let us know how the iOS 6 update goes!
      Best Regards,
      Bob

It is necessary to have a sim card on iphone to set up hotspot ?? Please help

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Rafay,
Do you mean can you use Net10 as a internet hotspot? and if so do you need to do the SIM swap? If so, that is a good question. My understanding is that it is against Net10’s terms of service, it tried using it once, and it didn’t work. Normally, you need to set up an APN for internet tethering, but when I sued the TMobile SIM I don’t get that option.

I may look into this. I’ll let you know.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Claire,
I am in the US, not the UK so I don’t know. Here are a couple of things to try.

      1. Have your son request a delivery report.
When sending an SMS simply type *0# at the start of the message. When the other phone receives your text you’ll get a FREE automatic alert letting you know the delivery was successful. This is handy if you’re not sure whether the other phone is switched on or in coverage. This works for texts from your Giffgaff phone to any network, and the *0# won’t be seen in the text the other person receives.

      2. Swap SIMs.
swap your SIMs. verify that he can send and receive texts to his voda friends with your phone and see if his phone gets the texts from your phone with his SIM.

Let me know how it goes.

      Cheers,
      Bob

I have tried this many times and I still can’t get MMS to work on my iphone 3gs on the net10 network. I do the swap exactly as it was supposed to be but then it’s like the settings don’t stick. Am I missing something? SOOO frustrating.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Kim,
Sorry to hear that you are having a problem. When you say the settings don’t stick,do you mean it works for a while and then stops or data and or MMS never work at all? Can you check to see that you don’t have any Carrier APN Profiles installed? Go to Settings->General->Profile->and remove any Carrier setting profiles.
Let me know how it goes.
      Regards,
      Bob

      Try these settings

      APN Settings: iPhone 4/4S
      Cellular Data
      APN: tfdata

      MMS

      MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com

Does anyone have any answers to the issue of loss of Visual Voice Mail with an iPhone and Net 10? I have VVM for the first 3 weeks of Net 10. Then it just disappeared. They have told me multiple things: Net 10 dies not support VVM, there is something wrong with my phone, they just cannot figure out what’s wrong, etc., etc.

    Any ideas?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Debbie,
You are the first person I have heard from that said they have been able to use visual voice mail on Net10. I have had that on my list of issues for another guide. I have heard that many people are using a 3rd party application called YouMail as a replacement for VVM, I haven’t tried it myself. My understanding is that even though Net10 runs on the AT&T network, they are not using the same voicemail service that supports VVM. I am not sure why it worked for you for three weeks. For those first three weeks, sid you have data and mms? Did you change anything.

I’ll follow up with you via email after I learn a little more.

      Regards,
      Bob

  203. Gary says:

Addendum…oh yes…and by the way, I was using the Simple Mobile (Tmobile SIM card) and MMS was working…so I know the GPP sim card is performing its unlock function…

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Gary,
Try the following. If tfdata is working for data try:
      APN tfdata
      MMS
      APN tfdata
      MMSC http://mms-tf.net
      MMS Proxy mms2.tracfone.com:80
      MMS Max Message Size 1048576
Let me know how it goes
      Regards
      Bob

      • Gary says:

        Thanks Bob…tried it…still can only send mms…not receive…

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi Gary,
I just want to confirm that tfdata was the only APN that got your data working. Correct?
try adding MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf and see if that helps.
Let me know how that goes.

          Regards
          Bob

          • Gary says:

Hi Bob…added the ua prof url…still not working…to answer your question…I didn’t try the other apn’s as I assumed that if I have a working data connection that this provides a potentially good portal for mms…should I try the other apn’s?

          • Gary says:

Uh…I’m not sure what happened…as I was trying the different options to get my iPhone to receive mms…and thenwent back to the original of:

            APN: tfdata
            MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
            MMS PROXY: 66.209.11.32:80
            SIZE: 1048576

…and I was able to receive mms…soooooooo weird…THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP BOB!

on a separate note…do you know how to get my iMessage to recognize my new phone#?

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hey Gary,
Getting MMS to work just goes that way. We are all working around the cellular data network options being hidden, etc. I get maybe a dozen people a day ask for help. Some are reluctant to walk through the steps i give them, saying I did that. The people they try each step again usually get it to work whether it was user error or software error the first time.
I am glad it is working!

I haven’t tried this, but it may help your iMessage problem.
            https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3402546?start=0&tstart=0

I’d start by checking the Send & Receive options in Message settings and make sure your new number if there.

            Regards,
            Bob

  204. Gary says:

Hello…I have the Net10 At&t sim card. I have a Sprint iPhone using the GPP Sim card adapter. The Cellular Network Data settings are appearing so I think I don’t need to do the Tmobile swap thing (my understanding is that it’s to get the Cellular Network Data menu to show up…right?) I tried the two different settings…using the tfdata as well as the wap.tracfone. The tfdata works great for the internet on the phone. My main problem is receiving MMS. I can send MMS…but no luck in receiving MMS.

I have tried the straight wap.tracfone and tfdata (MMS) settings as listed above. I have tried wap.tracfone settings below with the tfdata as the APN for the MMS settings and I have tried the tfdata MMS settings and leaving wap.tracfone as the APN. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Gary

another question does the iphone have to be unlocked to be used on the net10 network?

  206. Mariel says:

I have a iphone 4s from at&t. I paid for the phone to be unlocked but before the unlock is complete it says that I have to use a non-original sim to complete it. Can I use the net10 sim to do this or did I get swindled

  207. Leslie says:

Hello Bob, I hadn’t done the ITunes restore on my phone, but I went ahead and I did it. So when I put in the T-mobile SIM card the Cellular Network Data appeared! & then I followed the rest of the instructions you have. And Everything worked Data and MMS.

Thank you so much Bob! I appreciate all your help & patience. You are Gid sent! God Bless You! :)

    Have a GREAT DAY!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Leslie,
I am glad it worked for you! Remember to write down which settings worked, and save that T-Mobile SIM. If you update your iPhone software, you may need to enter the settings again.

I have iPhone4, I just switched to net10 on AT&T yesterday, data and voice are working, I would like to try your sim swap to get MMS working, which non-AT&T sim card I should buy?
only Net10 T-mobile micro sim card?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Debbie,
You need a micro SIM for the T-Mobile network. Any T-Mobile network sim should work. It doesn’t need to be active. If you have any old prepaid phones check them. You will need to cut the SIM. If you can’t find one look on eBay. you can find them there. They range in price from 99 cents to $5.
Let me know if you need more help.
      Regards,
      Bob

  210. Brandon says:

It worked like a charm with my iPhone 4S & AT&T Net 10 :). The only difference is I had to Stay In the Cellular Network Data screen when I swapped back to the AT&T SIM. I waited until the SIM was ready and the screen showed AT&T values, then changed them, then backed out. If I backed out early (such as before I swapped) and let it send me back to General, the Cell Network Data button would disappear and be inaccessible. Thank you so much for your help! Now if only Net10 would really give us 4G like our status bar claims! ……..

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Bradon,
Thanks for sharing. Glad you were able to figure out the SIM swap.
With respect to 4G, Net10 is using HSPDA, which technically is 4G. It’s the fastest service supported on the iPhone 4s. The iPhone 5 supports 4G LTE but the Net10 network doesn’t yet. They buy service from ATT and T-Mobile which don’t offere MVNOs like Net10 LTE yet.

      Best
      Bob

    • Brandon says:

Bob, thank you for maintaining this important page. I don’t know why unlockitz or Net10 dosen’t just make an auto-profile that Works :p …. but I guess that’s what hacks are for :p

In order to get the most information, I tried fully setting up / activating my Net10 T-Mobile SIM too. Although I hear AT&T has much wider coverage in rural areas, I’m getting 3-5Mb in Metro Detroit, MI which is the same as I got with the Net10 AT&T SIM. Also, although I only get 1-3 bars at home, the calls sound fine. … but T-Mo seems to be the future of N10 since they don’t sell AT&T SIMs anymore and capped it at 1.5GB wearas the N10 T-Mo is still “Unlimited”. Also, The T-Mo SIM offers more user-options like the ability to self-throttle to 2G Edge (So N10 doesn’t :p) or or save battery. Plus, with the AT&T Swap method, after a few days, I got a dialog saying my iPhone was updated with mandatory carrier settings (which broke my APN) ….was that gonna happen every few days?

If it helps anyone, these are the Settings > General > Cellular > Cell Network / APN settings I entered that worked for MMS :)

      >Net10 T-Mobile APN MMS Settings
      Source: http://www.net10byop.com/program.php

      APN – wap.tracfone
      MMSC – mms.tracfone.com
      Proxy – 216.155.165.40:8080
      MMS Max Size: 1048576

For those that checked the source, that’s right: according to Net10 MMS, the iPhone is a dumb phone :p Also, don’t use the auto-profile Net10 provides you: they clearly state it does not support APN.

    • Brandon says:

Mann: the grass sure is greener on the other side. I find that the T-Mobile 3G I experience on my Net10 iPhone, although 3-5Mb fast in ideal environments, it is soooo inconsistent indoors or while driving. It’s so inconsistent, it makes Facebook and Safari hang while loading! On the speediest.net app, you can see the drop outs on the histogram. It also switches to edge often indoors which is 0.1Mb slow, but it seems more consistent. You don’t know what you have till you’ve lost it — I really never noticed these area and timing drop outs in coverage with AT&T Net10. I guess that’s the advantage of unlocked phones…. How else would I know the genuine performance in my neighborhood from just talking to a sales rep or doing a rigged speed test in-store? So despite the luxurious easy MMS setup, extra features like Edge, lack of a hard 1.5GB/mo cap, and the possibility of Net10 dropping AT&T, it looks like I’m gonna want to go back to AT&T. I’m backseat in a car in busy Ferndale now.. It just snapped from 1 Bar 3G to 5 Bars Edge. What a great example of what I’m going through. What good is a cell network if it’s not there when you need it?

  211. James T says:

I’m happy to find you and your guide. I switched to an iPhone 4 unlocked in Feb. with Net10 and encountered this problem you have this guide for. I do not have MMS but I do have data. I also can face time from ipod to iphone. I’ll get to work and set my phone straight. Though I’m not surprised that MMS didn’t work, it specifically stated in the end of iPhone data/apn setup that Net10 does not support this MMS feature for iPhone customers.(paraprased). Don’t people read the whole page?

I have an iPhone 4 previously on AT&T. I also was unable to do the SIM swap because the Cellular Data Network did not pop up? Do you have to use a T-Mobile SIM?

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Rebecca,
You need a T-Mobile SIM to do the SIM Swap. It does not need to be active. When you bought your Net10 SIM, did you get just one SIM or a three pack of SIMs? Do you have any old prepaid phones lying around? Some people find the SIMs there. You can also check on eBay where you can buy a SIM for between 0.99 and 4.99. Is your data working?

    Bob,

Thank you so much for this information, my son and I just setup a Net10 AT&T compatible SIM in an iPhone4 using your SIM swap procedure with the Net10 Carrier APN Settings (tfdata) we did all the testing you suggested with iMessage turned off and we turned WiFi off we have phone service, data, and full MMS with picture capability, funny thing is I’m not sure my unlock went through but from what I read it appeared for the Net10 AT&T SIM you don’t need to have an unlocked AT&T phone since it’s still using AT&T’s network. Thanks again for the info it was vital to our success.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Mark
This is great news. Glad to hear you guys are up and running. Make sure to put that SIM in a safe place, write down the tf data settings you used and bookmark the guide. If you update iOS you need to run through the SIM swap again to set up the phone.

    Hi…
I have a iphone 3gs and I tried to do the settings but I had to borrow a tmobile sim from my brother only to find out that the sim is locked. Any suggestions?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi MizTay,
Thanks for commenting. Do you mean that the SIM is locked or the phone is locked? Both are possible. The TMobile SIM doesn’t need to be active. Any non-working one will do. Check around any old prepaid phones for one. You can buy a SIM on ebay for between $0.99 and $4.99.

Exactly what happens when you put the SIM in the phone? Can you send me a screenshot (hold the home button a press the top button at the same time. Look in photos for the screen shot).

      Do you have data working?

Thank you so much for posting this. The tfdata settings worked for me, but the wap.tracfone didn’t.

I didn’t purchase a t-mobile sim card, I just bought a pre-paid SIMple mobile sim card, which was only two dollars. My phone is unlocked, also.

I was so upset to find out I couldn’t send and receive pictures with my Iphone 3gs on Net10, but now it’s working I’m so happy!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Rachel,
This is great news! I am glad it you got it working. Yes, it seems that any SIM for the T-Mobile network will allow the swap. SIMple may be using the T-Mobile network.

Remember to write down what worked for you and put that SIM in a safe place. If you update your phone software you may need to go through this again.

Thanks for this guide! I just finished my AT&T Contract and switched to Net10. I have an iPhone 3GS. Had a little trouble getting my phone all set up at the start (didn’t realize I had to have a prepaid card to start my service), then my phone was giving me fits – couldn’t get the Cellular Data menu to come up (didn’t realize I had to backup/delete/restore my phone for the unlock to take effect). Then my settings wouldn’t save! Then lastly, once I got the settings to save, I got data working but not MMS!

Finally I used the tfdata settings (Under part 10 under notes) and before resetting my phone, while at the settings menu, I turned on Airplane Mode then turned it back off off again before resetting my phone. I think this helped me save my settings. Anyway long story short everything working great now!

I apologize I have read and re-read. I now have (with the last one) data working on the T-mobile sim card. It’s slow, but it’s working. Now I need to buy a new sim card to swap to see if I can have picture texting again? BTW: I RECEIVED a picture message from an android phone but couldn’t send. Does that make sense? I had sent to an iPhone no problem, but now I know that’s because it’s using iMessage. Different thing.

  236. Sarah B says:

This has been awful. I have an AT&T iPhone 4 running 6.1.3. I finished the AT&T contract and activated Net10 with an AT&T simcard. It wasn’t seemless, but once it was working, I had phone, data, txt, and MMS with pictures. To android phones. Then they added a data cap and I hit it. So Net 10 suggested a T-mobile card would have much more data and they sent me a new T-mobile simcard. I activated it and thought all was well. That was a couple days ago. Since then, I’ve realized I don’t have picture mail. So I tried to fix it–now I have nothing. Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. I do have phone. But if all I have is unlimited voice, I can pay a lot less than this! The thing that seems the worst to me is that Net10 never intimated AT ALL that I’d have trouble (like you said that’s it’s really slow) only that I’d have a higher data cap. When it WAS working (before I “fixed” it), it really did seem very laggy on the T-mobile simcard. Funny thing, it seemed like I had better voice connection than before. Like I had service where I hadn’t before. But maybe that was my imagination. I tried all the settings from the new zealand and nothing has worked–am I supposed to be popping the simcard each time too? And I only have the T-mobile simcard now–once I got the phone activated with the “new and improved” one, I didn’t want to confuse them and couldn’t see the use of a second, so I threw out the att one.

  243. Manny says:

hi so I don’t have another sim to perform the swap method, I am running ios 6 so I can’t see the cellular data network option either, is there any other way to get the data and mms working or is the swap method the only way?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Manny,
You need another SIM to do the SIM Swap method. The SIM doesn’t need to be active. If you have any old prepaid phones lying around, you may have a SIM you can use. One reader recently toldd me she went to the TMobile store and bought a SIM card for $20. I’d check eBay or Amazon, you might find one as low as 99 cents.

  244. Shannon says:

Thanks so much for this how to guide. Method 2 with the alternate settings worked perfectly on my factory unlocked iPhone 4 iOS 6.1.3. I now have data and mms!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Shannon,
This is great news! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and sharing what worked for you. Remember to put your Tmobile SIM in a safe place and write down the setting that worked for you. If you update iOS on your iPhone you may need to enter the values again.

Bob, my mms stopped working. Data still works…to my knowledge nothing on my phone update. Tried re-entering the APN settings that worked earlier this week and they are no longer working. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  245. Christine says:

Net 10 (att.mvno) worked for my 4s with getting data but I haven’t had luck with sending mms yet. I’ve done both full input options (wap.tracfone & tfdata) during a sim swap with no luck. Any advice? Thank you so much for getting data back for me. This webpage has been a lifesaver.

    lots of e-love,
    C

  246. Elizabeth says:

okay: so this did work for me. but I had a problem; I have an iPhone 4S. when I put in the tmobile sim it said no service and I tried to go to settings but it soon kicked me out to an activation required screen. so I tried 4 times till the least time I did it all really fast and got to the apn settings screen for both data and mms, then took the tmobile sim out because it kicked me out and said activation required and wouldn’t let me go to my home screen because my iPhone doesn’t support that carrier. but once I put my net10 sim back in I was still on apn settings page and I was able to input the information thank you ! I’ve been looking for this fix for a whole month ‘!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Elizabeth,
Glad to hear you go it working! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Do you know if your iPhone is locked? that may be why you got the activation required screen.

Sounds like it it working now, remember to keep your TMobile SIM and a copy of the settings. If you update iOS you may need to enter these values again.

      Best Bob

  247. John says:

Alternate values on step 10 worked for me on an unlocked 4S.

  248. Ed says:

    Sir,
I have an unlocked Iphone4 that has been activated on Net10 using the AT&T Net10 sim card. With their settings, I have phone service, texts, and data. But you guessed it, no picture msgs. I cannot access the apn on my phone. Using method 2, I turned off my phone, put in the t mobile sim card and restarted phone. Everything went according to the instructions listed above. I left the phone on and removed the t mobile sim card, and replaced the Net10 sim card. This is where things went haywire. No matter what I do, I do not get the cellular data tab. it goes from the data roaming tab to set up hot spot tab.
I then went to unlockit and tried every profile the had for Net10. I tried them twice. The 1st time, I did not turn the phone off and on after every install. The 2nd time I did turn the phone off and back on after every install. Still no luck. I ended up going back and reinstalling the Net10 settings from apnupdate. Any other suggestions or tricks? Thank you for posting these instruction. They do seem to be helping a lot of people :)

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Ed,
      Thanks for commenting.

I just want to make sure I understand the issue you are having. You put the T-Mobile SIM in the phone, restarted the phone, and are able to get to the Cellular Data Network settings. After putting the Net10 SIM back in the phone, you are not able to get back to the Cellular Data Network Settings? is this correct? Let me know.

I think I had another reader tell me he had the same issue with an iPhone. Let me check through my emails and maybe we can help you out.

Using step 2 and the following values helped me get data and sending MMS; I am still working on receiving them:
Mms: tfdata Mmsc: http://mms-tf.net Mms proxy: mms3.tracfone.com:80 Mms max msg size:1048576 Mms us prof: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

PS : The input of the Mms us Prof is what got the sending of MMS/PIC TEXTS working on my iPhone 3gs

    • Bob Thompson says:

I am happy to hear everything is working! Also thank you for sharing your experience. I have heard of other people entering that MMS profile URL, but I never needed it. I’ll have to add that as an update to the guide.

The tfdata setup worked like a charm for my iPhone 5. I now have both data and MMS working. Thanks for all the information.

  252. Aileen says:

Hi, so I have the factory unlocked iphone 4s currently on net10 service. It shows “4G” on my screen when I turn on my cellular data on, but it really doesn’t work. I did buy just the net10 micro sim card online. I would like to have my internet working and be able to send MMS to any phone. Help please?

  253. Daniel Brown says:

Thanks! Worked great for my iPhone 4! I had tried method 1 using Net10(iphone) and Net10(ATT) and couldn’t get it to work but when I tried it with the T-Mobile option it worked great. Very good option if your iPhone doesn’t let you access the APN directly.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Daniel,
Thanks for taking the time to comment. This is great news1 Glad the guide helped. Remember if you just used Method 1, you will have data working but not Picture Messaging (MMS). For that, you need use Method 2. Some people don’t use picture messaging so they don’t go through the extra steps, it really depends on your needs.

      Best Regards,
      Bob

  254. Chris Kozlarek says:

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for taking the time to put this up and answer questions. I was going nuts trying to configure this phone for the last two days. I have an ATT factory unlocked phone running on iOS 6.1.3. The sim swap method did not work for me with the settings in the turorial. I tried it 3 times. The apn changer website provided by Net10 didn’t work for me. I was on unlockit and finally I found that Net10(AT&T) worked for me. Do you know what those values would be so I can try and do a sim swap again and input the numbers manually so I can hopefully get mms working. Thanks a lot.

  255. Florangel says:

    Great!!! Everything is working….
I had to try it a second time, the first time I guess I made a mistake.
So, for those that this instruction didn’t work yet, keep trying….

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Florangel,
Thanks for sharing your experience! Glad to hear you have data and MMS working. Remember to put your tMobile sim away, you’ll need to do the SIM swap method again when you update iOS.

I came across your website and I’ve tried your settings and that didn’t work either. I tried your apn settings and I’ve tried the apn settings that Net10 gave me and none of it has worked.

      Hi Danielle
      Thanks for commenting.
Can you tell me what version of iOS your phone is running? Look in Settings, General, About, Version

      Also is your iPhone unlocked?

      Bob

      • Danielle says:

        It’s running on 6.1.3

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi Danielle
I tried emailing you twice but the email bounces.

Follow the directions in the Setting up Data section of my guide: http://smartphonematters.com/guides/how-to-use-your-iphone-5-with-net10-wireless/

go the http://unlockit.co.nz website on your iPhone and try each of these values with the steps in the guide until you find one that works.

          Net 10 (wap.tracfone)
          • Net 10 (tfdata)
          • Net 10 (iPhone)
          • Net 10 (att.mvno)
          • Net 10 (AT&T)
          • Net 10 (T-Mobile)

Once we figure out the correct APN values for you to get Data working for Net10, you can then decide if you want to do the SIM swap method to try and get MMS working.

Let me know how you make out.

          Best Regards,
          Bob

            Hi Bob,

I am running my at&t iphone 4 on Net10. From the previous post you state.

“go the http://unlockit.co.nz website on your iPhone and try each of these values with the steps in the guide until you find one that works.

            Net 10 (wap.tracfone)
            • Net 10 (tfdata)
            • Net 10 (iPhone)
            • Net 10 (att.mvno)
            • Net 10 (AT&T)
            • Net 10 (T-Mobile)”

Does it matter if I am using an at&t? Am I suppose to try the “Net 10 (T-Mobile)” even if I am not using T-Mobile iPhone?

            Thanks,
            DN

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi DN,
I recommend you try all the settings in the order above until you find one that works. The TMobile option is last on the list. In the past it has worked for iPhone users with the Net10 ATT sim.

            Best Regards
            Bob

    Hi Bob
I just wanted to thank you for the extremely useful information. I just upgraded to an iphone 5 on Net 10 and was having difficulty making it work. Your directions were awesome and I thank you for taking the time to put them online. Have not tried the sim swap as I had to cut a sim to make it nano for AT&T and have not taken time to cut the T-Mobile card. May try it later – may not…(will let you know if it works if I do) Did want to thank you for the data information – it worked wonderfully!! Have a great day.

    help??

  268. Hello Bob,

I currently have an Apple Unlocked iPhone 5. I recently acquired the ‘Net10′ service. I purchased it with a ‘trial number.’ I don’t want to port my official business lines until I had confirmed I was satisfied with the quality of the service. Everything has been working great: Calls, Texts & Data. Although there does seem to be a problem with the ‘MMS’ messaging, I can’t get it to work. I’ve tried trouble shooting it with a ‘Net10′ representative & trouble shooting it following your guidelines and everything appears to be a failure. I would greatly appreciate it if you can help me out with this situation. You can contact me via e-mail or even via-phone at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time & I wish you a great day filled with blessings & Success!

    Bob,
Thanks for the update, it worked brilliantly!!! I did get hung up at the beginning though and realized that Net10 had me install their autoAPN. Once I figured this out, I just uninstalled theirs and then repeated the process outlined above. Genius :)

I tried this method 2x – not having any luck – iphone 4 unlocked was with AT&T – did have it setup at the shop where I bought the net10 card – was working until the recent update to ios 6.1.3
(10b329)using a tracphone card from another phone – does that matter? I know it says to use a non-AT&T card

  274. Laura says:

Hello there. I’ve had net10 for a couple of months now, and everything worked fine till now. I changed from the AT&T compatible sim to the t-mobile to get unlimited data. I’ve got IOS 6.1.3. I’ve changed the APNs thousand of times and nothing works. I have data but no iMessages, nor normal MMS. Do you have any suggestion?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Laura,
If you switched to the TMobile SIM, you need to use different settings. Using the TMobile SIM in an iPhone is not a good choice in my opinion because you will only get 2G (slow) data speeds. TMobile is in the process of upgrading their network to be more AT&T compatible so perhaps you will have faster speeds in your area.

Let me know if you need help.

      Best
      Bob

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hey Alex,
        Did your data ever work?

What type of phone do you have?

Let’s try to get your data working first, then MMS.

In settings, delete all the APN setting above.

For the cellular data APN, replace tfdata with wap.tracfone.
        1. Save the settings
        2. Turn off WiFi
        3. Power off
        4. restart your phone
        5. test data… load some web pages

If it doesn’t work, repeat the steps above using att.mvno as the APN.
And if that doesn’t work, repeat the steps using tfdata (yes, one more time just to rule it out).

Please let me know how you make out.

        Bob

  275. andrea says:

ok… this is probably a stupid question, but I assume this can only be done once the phone is unlocked as nothing happens when I press the cellular data bar….I recently got an Att iphone 4 from a friend (who has contacted att for the unlock) now since the phone was his and is now mine will I be able to access the unlock information once they release it or will I have to get with him to get the unlock downloaded?

  276. Heather says:

These setting only allowed me to send a picture to another iphone, what about someone who doesnt have an iphone?

    • Ray says:

      Heather,
I’ve spent 3 hours on the phone with net10 only to be told that because the iPhone is programmed for another network that picture messages won’t send because the IPhone has special settings for MMS. You can send picture from iPhone to iPhone due to iMessage which is data/Internet driven. I’ve been sending pictures to other phones through texting apps and my email.
      -Ray

  277. lizbeth says:

I’ve tried these steps about a dozen times now, paying very close attention to detail. But I’m not getting data or MMS to work. I’ve got an unlocked iPhone 4 (previously with AT&T), running iOS 6.1.3.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Liz,
Thanks for reading and commenting. I am sorry the directions have not worked for you so far. I’d like to try to help you if possible.

Can you share a little more information?
      1. So I assume you you bought a Net10 SIM package and it came with three SIMS.
      2. you used the micro SIM card and it was marked as AT&T compatible.
      3. You activated your SIM
      4. You have voice service working, but not data

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Khaoz,
Thanks for sharing. Yes, the net10.com configuration site does work for some, but not all users. Also, I’ve never had anybody report that MMS works after using the site. Are you sure that MMS is working? If you are sending picture messages to other iPhone users it is highly likely you are using iMessage and your pictures are being delivered using your data connection. Try sending a picture message to a non iPhone user or disabling iMessage in your phones’s settings to see if it really works.

        Best Regards
        Bob
