I Can’t Receive MMS Picture Messages Using Straight Talk or Net10 on My iPhone Using iOS 7.0.4

Photo Nov 19, 3 09 15 PM

Well, actually I can. However many readers are reporting that they are having problems receiving MMS messages using Straight Talk and Net10. The reports have started coming in after the update to iOS 7.0.4. But here is the thing, I got a similar report from a Windows phone user and someone on iOS 6 too. Possibly an Android user too, but I don’t have enough info on that case yet.

I wonder if the problem is on the Straight Talk and Net10 network and not with your phones? My MMS seems to be working, at least, in the limited testing I have done. I have exchanged picture messages between two phones, one using Straight Talk, the other using Net10. I also just exchanged pics with a phone on Verizon too.

If you are having a problem, post a comment. Include your phone and OS, you APN settings, and if you can send and or receive. I can’t promise to fix your problem. But if all of you readers share your whats going on for you, we might find a solution.

UPDATE 23 NOV 10:34 AM EST

Many readers are reporting problems with Data and MMS using Straight Talk and Net10.

If you are a Net10 or Straight Talk customer using an iPhone and your data stopped working…

Try this:

  1. Remove any APN profiles installed on your iPhone
  2. Go to Settings->General->Reset and choose Reset All Network Settings
  3. After your phone restarts, Press and Hold the Home and Lock buttons until it restarts again
  4. If you don’t see TFW, in the status bar continue to Step 9
  5. Test your data connection
  6. Test sending & receiving MMS (if you care about MMS)
  7. If your phone works you are done
  8. if it doesn’t continue on
  9. Follow one of my guides to set up your data or data and MMS
  10. When you install the APN profile, try the tfdata APN profile first
  11. Leave a comment if  you have a question.

Guides for above:

How to Setup Straight Talk Wireless Data and MMS for your iPhone running iOS 6

If you are a Net10 or Straight Talk customer and you can’t receive MMS…

I currently have no solution for this. This problem started this week.  There are lots of comments on the subject. I think the problem is the network, not your phone. iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone users have all reported this problem. Keep an eye out here for more info as it becomes available.

A couple of notes.

  • changing to a new SIM will not solve the probkem and allow you to receive MMS.
  • a ST SIM that cant receive MMS in an iPhone can’t receive MMS in an Android phone

UPDATE  20 NOV 2:45 PM EST

If you leave a comment about your MMS working or not working, let me know how old your SIM card is. Some readers and I wondering if MMS is only working for readers that have the newer SIMs.

UPDATE  19 NOV  3:15 PM EST

I am getting a lot of questions about not being able to receive MMS from Net10 and Straight Talk customers. Apparently,  last night Straight Talk and Net10 are sending customers text messages telling them to power their phone off and on to get the latest update. I just got the message too. After I restarted my iPhone it wouldn’t receive MMS. I did a Reset Network Settings and it started working again.

Straight Talk and Net10 have been updating customer’s data and MMS APNs to tfdata from att.mvno and maybe even wap.tracfone. Many readers are reporting the need to update their profiles or SIM swap again.

      Hi Tammy,
If you recently signed up for Straight Talk and transferred your phone number it may take a few days before you can receive MMS picture messages. I had the same issue. I set up three Straight Talk accounts. MMS worked fine for the two with new phone numbers. I could not receive MMS for the third, the one I transferred a number to. I tried the SIM in two different phone and it did not work. After a few days I decided to see if I could try to fix it, only to find it working.

Did you buy the phone from Straight Talk? Did you transfer your phone number to this phone?

This is a common problem. if you are using an Android phone you can also try setting your APN type to default, mms, wap or default, mms, supl. Dear Bob,

I have a Huawei H883g, Windows 8, OS 8.0 phone bought from Net 10 about 9 months ago. I just now am experiencing problems with not receiving texts and occasionally the person I send texts to do not receive them as well. I do not get an error message that text cannot go. I called customer service, first they told me it was because of a break in network connection. Then added that it was the problem of the person’s phone who was sending me the text. REALLY three different carriers having the same issue. I’m so frustrated with NET 10 right now. The last time I had a problem they had me do a factory reset. I’m researching on my own but not finding anything so much for a Windows based OS. Do you have any suggestions?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Danielle,
Is the problem with plain text messages (SMS) or picture messages and group texts (MMS)? This phone should be using the Net10 ATT network. Do you know if that is the case? Do you know if, in general, the att network works well where you live?

      Please let me know.
      Regards
      Bob

      Hi Brooklyn,
Sorry to hear about the problem with your phone. If you bought it at walmart, I think there is a 15 day return policy. I am not sure what model ZTE phone you are using so its difficult to make some suggestions about how to fix it. You can try powering the phone off and on, and redialing the activation sequence, if you were required, to do so. You can also try deleting any existing message threads with images attached. Some times that helps.

    Can’t Receive MMS Picture Messages

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Osswaldo

If you just signed up for Straight Talk and you transferred your phone number, it might take a few days to receive MMS. I recently set up three straight talk accounts. I could receive MMS immediately for the two accounts with new phone numbers. It took several days to start receiving MMS for the account with the transferred phone number. when I setup up the account, I tried the SIM in two different phones and could not receive MMS. I gave up and decided to look at it again a few days later, only to find it had started working.

You’ll still need to make sure you have entered your APN settings into your phone correctly. You can also try entering an APN type of default, internet, wap. Some people still have to adjust their APN settings to get it to work. Read these two articles AND the comments to see the different MMSC and MMS Proxy settings that have worked for others.

Thank you so much for the helpful guides you’ve posted. I’m glad they seem to work for so many other people, and I’m hoping that they can maybe work for me as well.

I’ve been sim swapping for a couple of hours (probably a dozen times by now) and putting in all possible combinations of APNs I can find on your site. Before, the wap APN I downloaded via your site got me data but no MMS, so I tried imputing those values for MMS after swapping with a TMobile sim–no luck. Magically, the tfdata APN loaded onto my phone (before I tried your site, I called customer service, so they may have been in the process of changing my APN for me). No MMS still, so I tried imputing all of the values for the tfdata APN after repeated sim swaps. Still no MMS, although I do have data without any of the profiles downloaded.

I use MMS group/picture/iMessaging often so this hitch is really inconvenient. I have an iPhone 4s, iOS 7.0.2 (haven’t downloaded the newest iOS yet, but I’ve heard some people are having trouble so I’m refraining). It’s AT&T enabled, recently unlocked–I just began using Straight Talk three days ago, and their customer service department has been far from helpful. I know it’s a shot in the dark, but if there’s any advice you have for me, that would be extremely appreciated.

Either way, thanks for keeping this site up and running!

Net10 HTC one x internet movin pretty slow and I can’t receive mms ….net10 succs

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi bGilcreast
      1. Which APN settings are you using?
      2. Did you recently transfer your number to Net10?
      3. Do you know if you are using the Net10 ATT SIM or the Net10 TMobile SIM?
      4. What model HTC one are you using (did you bring it from another company?)

If you just transferred your number it can take a few days before you start receiving MMS Picture Messages. I had the same issue recently. I set up three accounts. I could receive MMS on the two accounts with new numbers immediately, the one with the transferred number didn’t work at first, it took several days.

There are some other things that work for people. You can try setting your APN type. You can try changing the MMS Proxy and MMSC values. See the two posts and the comments below if you want to try those options.

Well, it has been four days since I last asked about my MMS issues with my Nexus 5. I had just activated the AT&T sim card, and ported my number. You had suggested I wait a few days to see if it works, and unfortunately, nothing has happened. So I’m just wondering now if you have any other suggestions?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Adam,
Did you look up you APN settings on the web site using the link in the guide? What are they? Are those the values you currently are using in the APN settings on your phone? Can yo still send but not receive mms?
      Regards

I can send MMS, but not receive.
        These are my APN values:

        MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
        MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
        MMS port: 80

I didn’t change any of the other values. I’ve tried other settings, but these are the ones that my friend is using. She has the exact same phone, same color, same sim card, same everything. I just don’t understand it.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Adam,
For some reason, many people find that it takes a few days to start receiving MMS after transferring your phone number. I had this issue recently too. I set up three new accounts. MMS worked immediately for two of the accounts that had new phone numbers. I transferred a number to the third one and I was unable to receive MMS. I tried the SIM in both an iPhone and my Nexus 5. I finally gave up. I decided several days later to try and get it working, only to find it had starting working.

      • Bob Thompson says:

If you bought your iPhone 5 from Straight Talk it uses their verizon network and this article does not apply. The Straight Talk iPhone 5 is not the best choice because it will only get 3G data instead of 4G or 4G LTE which is faster. The Straight Talk iPhone 5c or 5s use their ATT or TMobile networks and are a better choice.

You best choice is to buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple and get a Straight Talk SIM.

Look in the manual or in the settings and see if you can find the MMS or data APN settings and then we can figure out what you need to add.

I have been with straight talk since November 2012 and I’ve had the same phone since then – Samsung Galaxy S2. Last weekend, my data randomly quit working. After three days of turning off/on, taking out the battery, cursing & screaming, throwing that blasted phone against walls it still didn’t work so I did the dreaded deed of contacting ST customer service. Let’s just skip past the 6 hour phone call (!) and get to the point of having to download the Update Data App from Google Play. After that everything worked perfectly. NOW I can send mms messages but not receive them… I’m getting ticked at ST. Any help?

Upgraded my (unlocked) iPhone 4S to iOS 7.0.6 & now I can send MMS but not receive those types of messages. I have run through your guide 4 times in the past 90 minutes to no avail. Between this & that stupid “Do you trust this computer” every time I plug my iPhone in, I just wish Apple would leave well enough alone. Any help or suggstions would be greatly appreciated.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Rodney,
Are you using the Straight Talk ATT network compatible SIM or Straight Talk T-Mobile network compatible SIM? Which settings are you using? What is your Carrier in Setting General About?
      Regards
      Bob

  48. Leanne says:

    Bob,
I started straight talk Saturday with the Bring your own phone plan. I have an Iphone 4s that is unlocked and was previously AT&T. I am using the AT&T sim from ST. Originally I was unable to even attach a picture to a text, but then after trying some different APN settings like you suggested I was able to attach. Then I was unable to send or receive MMS or group texts. After Sim swapping I can now send pictures and group texts, but I am still unable to receive them. Please help me it is beyond frustrating..
    Thanks so much! Leanne

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Leanne,
Which settings are you current using? Also if you just ported your number to Straight Talk you might receiving MMS is a couple of days. That happended to me if a Straight talk account I set up this month.
      Regards
      Bob

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Dachillone,
Unlockit is great for getting data, working. It will not fix mms. I bet if you remove the APN profile you installed and restart your phone your data and mms will just work.

I recently got an unlocked phone the original carrier was Sprint. I got a new SIM card from my carrier (T-Mobile) and now I can’t receive messages from any T-mobile carrier or MMS.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Samantha,
Its hard to help because It’s not clear to me if you are using an iPhone or some other phone. General sprint doesn’t unlock iPhones except for international use. It’s also not clear to me if you are using the straight talk TMobile network compatible sim or a TMobile sim.

      Regards
      Bob

      • Samantha says:

        Hi bob,
I’m sorry I forgot to mention those. I have an IPhone 4S and the unlock app says neter 3to2 I’m not sure if that’s what you’re asking for. But I went to tmobile and got a SIM card for the iPhone.

  58. Lexi says:

I am still unable to use my mms after trying all of this. And yes I do have a new sim I just bought two days ago. Is there any new results on how this can be fixed?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Lexi,
No. There isn’t a single reliable fix. I am not sure what phone you have or what you tried or didn’t. For example, if you have an iPhone did you SIM swap and try alternative MMS APN, MMSC, and MMS Proxy values.

I recently ported another phone number to Straight Talk. I could send, but not receive MMS picture messages. I tried the SIM in both an iPhone 5 and Nexus 5. I could send but not receive pictures. I gave up that day and found that two days later I could receive MMS. Some reader report the same. That after signing up and porting a number MMS starts working a few days later.

      Regards
      Bob

  59. jackie says:

Ok I used you guide to change the profile and now the internet works without wifi being on and I can send and receive texts and calls. Now how do I get picture messaging to work because I can send pictures to other iphones but can’t receive or send pictures to iphone users or anyother phone. Help

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Jackie,
Installing the profile isn’t going to get your MMS working, I think it says that in the guide. If you followed instructions I pointed you to and MMS doesn’t work you will need to follow the second part of the guide and do the SIM swap.

      Regards
      Bob

I have an Iphone 4s using a tmobile sim on Straight talk on IOS7. I updated about 3 months ago. For the last week and a half it stopped working. I do not have access to data, MMS, picture messages. i tried the guide using each apn to see which would work with no success. when I do the first two apns, and check the connection, I get redirected to androidpai.t-mobile.com with a blank screen and for the wap.tracfone apn I get redirected to u.web2go.com and it gives a tmobile message saying “your data plan does not work on this device” and it has a link for me to upgrade my tmoble data plan.

Please help, I have been trying over and over and nothing seems to be working. i cannot download attachments, send or receive Imessages or get access to the internet (without using wifi).

I am looking to switch to Straight Talk and can’t get a “straight” answer from anyone about how service works… maybe you can help. If I bring an unlocked AT&T iPhone to Straight Talk and use an AT&T sim, what cell towers could I potentially use? Verizon tends to get the best coverage in rural Small Town, USA where I am from, but Verizon iPhones do not work with Straight Talk I have found out. Any insight on this matter would be great!

my problem is that I cannot send or receive group text messages properly.

they come in as individual messages and non group messages when I send out a group text to multiple people it comes into their phones as an individual text.

this is what happened on my old net10 phone and I recently switched to a Samsung galaxy s3 and I am still having the same problem now.

sure this is a net 10 network problem but how can it be fixed?

    • Bob Thompson says:

Check to see if you see an E or 2G in your status bar when using your data connection. Make sure you are using the Straight Talk AT&T SIM. To use MMS you need to set up your APN. You did not mention which values you used.

  69. Lou says:

    Hi Bob,

I’ve got straight talk and just transfered my phone number to an AT&T iphone 4s with iOS 7.0.4 . I bought the micro sim card, but thats the only one I’ve got, so I’m not able to do a sim swap.

I installed the tfdata APN and that seemed to get the data working, but I noticed when I uninstalled it, the data still worked. I’ve currently got it installed and it works fine so no problem there.

My problem seems to be the same as the one mentioned above. I’m able to use the data for accessing the internet, but I’m not able to receive mms. I can however send mms without a problem.

Are there any breakthroughs with this problem? Also, any reason why a “cellular data network” section doesn’t pop up when I searched it earlier under cellular?

  70. Shelley says:

I have data but no mms. I bought the Straighttalk BYOP package with 4 SIMS to get my unlocked iPhone 4 set up . Only one SIM fit-the T-mobile. I cannot do the switch because I do not have a Straighttalk AT&T SIM that fits (they are too small). Do I need to buy another one to do the swap? Thanks!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Shelley,
Your iPhone 4 uses a micro SIM. If your kit has four SIMs, there should be two ATT and two TMobile SIMs. There should be two standard SIMs and two micro SIMS. If you use the T-Mobile SIM in your phone, you don’t need to SIM swap. You can just enter the settings directly.
But you are better off using the ATT network with your iPhone.

You should have the correct ATT SIM in this kit. Do you want send me a picture of what SIMs you have?

      Regards
      Bob

      • Shelley says:

        Hi Bob,
Thanks so much for getting back to me. The AT&T SIMS were too small. I will try to find the kit and send a picture of the SIMS. Do you have an email or text number I can use? Thanks, Shelley

        • Shelley Orwig says:

          Hi Bob,

I did the switch and everything works! Thanks a lot! I did have to try twice because the first tfdata set did not work (mms2 worked).

Thanks again for all of your help-I don’t think I would have been able to fix it without your advice.

    Hi Bob,
I just want to add this in case it helps someone out there. My daughters at&t locked iPhone 5 iOS 7.0.4 has not been updated with the new carrier settings of TFW 15.7. It is still on AT&T 15.5 and was not working with the default tfdata settings provided by Net10. I used a combination of settings and now everything works, data, pic text, & MMS. I must add that her phone is jailbroken and I was able to update her APN settings with a Jailbreak app called TetherME. These are the settings I used below.

    Cellular data
    APN: att.mvno

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Edawag,
Thanks for sharing. Interesting combination. I am surprised that you have it working using what normally is the data proxy as the mms proxy. I’d be curious if you removed the mms proxy if it would still work for you.

But hey, awesome job finding a set of values that worked.

I ported over from AIO to Straight talk AT&T new sim card that i bought off Walmart one week ago, so I am assuming that it is one of the new SIM CARD. I have followed the steps, and have gotten everything to work, except for receiving picture messages (MMS). My status bar displays the TFW 4G LTE in the top left on my home screen. Is there something that I could do differently that would get my mms to receive pictures? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way my phone is jailbroken

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Robson,
I haven’t found a definitive fix for the receive MMS issue. I think it’s on the Straight Talk side. Some readers have found that by tweaking the MMSC and MMS Proxy port values they have fixed the problem. It doesn’t seems to work for everyone.
For example, try MMS Proxy mms2.tracfone.com
See the comments for a list of different MMSC and MMS proxy values that readers have reported working.

      Regards

With my 7.0.4 iphone 5, after I chose the profile for my phone, before I could see the TFW name, I had to go to Settings > General > Software Update and then it prompted me that there was an update to TFW.
At that point I tested loading a webpage and sending an MMS. At that point, it worked! Hope this helps some people!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Drew,
Thanks for the comment. It’s the carrier TFW 15.6 or TFW 15.7 that fixed your data and MMS. Works for some, not everyone. Glad to hear it worked for you.
      Regards

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Brianna,
Follow the instructions on the page you left the comment on. If mms doesn’t work you will need to follow the section part of the guide and do the sim swap.
Let me know how it goes.

Cannot open mms on my Verizon model samsung galaxy s3 running jellybean . I’m reheated and globally unlocked. I have the newest 4g sim. The download button is there but every time says it cannot download. In running on tfdata & port 80. I just dropped Verizon after 3 years to come to this?

    • Bob Thompson says:

I don’t think you will get 4G LTE data using a SIM in that phone. It’s not compatible. I’m surprised to hear you are getting data. Are you getting 3G or 2G data?
You can read the comments and try some of the alternative MMSC and MMSC proxy values that have worked for other readers. If it doesn’t work out for you, you can move your phone to Straight Talk’s Verizon network or another prepaid wireless network that uses the Verizon network.

I get a lot of questions about these phones, but I don’t have one so I don’t know how to fix this. No one seems to know what the mms settings are supposed to be.

Let me know if you can see that option, I have a few ideas for you.

no it is not available, used to have at&t iphone 4 with straight talk sim but i had to jailbreak and use tetherme to get mms to work, before i activated the 5 i specifically asked if mms would work and they told me yes, after numerous calls to straight talk and chasing my tail in circles, they know nothing but reading off a troubleshooting list, i read that u have to contact miami straight talk office but havent tried, but there is a new jailbreak out and it supports tetherme for ios 7

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi oj,
The issue with the ST Verizon iPhones is that no one seems to know what APN and MMS settings to use for the Straight Talk Verizon network. I think they use the Verizon settings but I am not sure. Can you verify you carrier is TFW 15.5 in your settings?

  89. Joe says:

Not sure if this can help but just in case, wanted to share.

I’ve been using Net10 att compatible sim on my S3 for 2 months no problems. I just transferred my wifes iphone 4 running ios 7.0.4 2 weeks ago but couldn’t get any mms. I called net10 to see if they could help, they gave me a case # and phone # to contact a manager the next day.

Before calling the next day, I tried following this site’s tmobile sim swap instructions 5-10 times, but the “cellular data” settings option never appeared. I also tried backing up and restoring the iphone to make sure the request for unlocking went through, but kept getting errors.

While I was doing one of the swap tries, a message popped up on the phone saying there was a “carrier update” available. So I restarted the phone and the carrier at top of phone changed from “HOME” to “TFW”.

At this point, there was no APN profile on the phone, because I had deleted it for sim swap. So after all this, my wife got a picture message and data worked like magic with no successful sim swap OR APN profile installed. I think the “carrier update” may have caused this and I hope other ios users can have this same fortune!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Joe,
I love it when readers share their experience.
Yes. you are correct. Starting with the carrier TFW 15.6, you phone may just work with no APN profile or SIM swap. Along with the change from HOME to TFW your phone now programs the APN settings correctly for the Straight Talk SIM. It works for me too. I wrote the instructions in this article to account for that with out explaining it. It doesn’t work for everyone, so enjoy it.
Kind of cool that you figured it out!
      Regards
      Bob

Also after updates my texts go to other people with my email address instead of just name like it use to be. Anybody else doing this??

I just bought the SIM card for the iphone today, December 29th, so I am assuming that it is one of the new SIM cards. I have followed the steps listed, and have gotten eveything to work, except for recieving picture messages in MMS. My status bar displays the TFW 3G in the top left on my home screen. I have tried following the steps in the artical 5 times and still have not had any luck with recieving picture mms. Have any other users had this problem? If so, is there something that I could do differently that would get my mms to recieve pictures? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Daniel,
Many people are having this problem. Take a look through the comments. Some people have managed to fix the problem by using alternative MMS proxy and MMSC values. Take a look through comments and see what others have tried to get MMS working. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be one solution that works for a majority of people. Keep an eye on the site, I am going to write a summary in a day or so.
      Regards

    • Angela says:

Bob- your apn thing worked wonders, but since i don’t currently have a tmobile sim card i was wondering; Can I get the tmobile sim card from the tmobile website? it says it’s free on there (obviously that’s the best option) but before i do that, i wanted to make sure that the sim swap would work if i got the “nano sim starter kit” thing on their website

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Angela,
First try the steps in this post to see if you can get data and mms working without the APN profile. If it doesn’t work. Reinstall the profile and order a tmobile sim.
you need a SIM to fit your phone. The iPhone 5 and above use the nano SIM. iPhone 4 models, micro SIM. Other then that, any Tmobile network SIM should work. Yes. Free is best.

        Regards
        Bob

I have an unlocked AT&T iPhone 4 with Straight Talk on ios 7.0.4 and TFW 15.7 I was able to send MMS, but could not receive MMS. All I did was insert my old inactive AT&T micro sim and left it in for 3 minutes, then turned off the phone. (I was connected to wifi, but don’t know if that made a difference or not) While the phone was off, I removed the AT&T micro sim and inserted my Straight Talk AT&T compatible micro sim. I turned the phone on and everything works! I have also turned the phone off twice and everything still works.

    • Eric says:

This worked for me. I have an unlocked AT&T iPhone 4S. I was not on wifi and I have imessage off. Phone was on, put the old AT&T sim waited 4 minutes, shut the phone off, placed ST sim in, turned phone on and could send and recieve mms pictures and I have a data connection, was browsing safari just fine. Have turned phone on and off several times. So far so good

    • John L. says:

      David,
You Are The Man!!! This worked like a charm. My 4s data & mms just stopped in mid-Dec. after working great for quite a while. IOS 7.0.4 & TFW 15.7. I bought my 4s from a buddy who left the old AT&T sim in it. The phone is not unlocked. I don’t think that makes a bit of difference with ST. I had an older sim (16 months old) and thought I would buy a new one from ST. It made no difference. I tried every setting and technic ever suggested! THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION TO GET ALL MMS FUNCTIONS WORKING!!!
      Thanks David.
And thank you Bob for all the great info & this site.

      Sincerely,
      John L.

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi John,
Glad to hear you got your phone to work. It’s great to hear that David’s comment helped you. I love it when readers leave comments. Changing to a newer sim is required for 4g lte. I think it sometimes help with the mms issues, not because of the sim, but because they make changes in the backend systems when you move to a new sim.

Anyway, glad you got your mms,
        Regards
        Bob

        • John L. says:

          An update.

          Good Luck!

  97. Charles Headlee says:

MMS stopped immediately after carrier settings updated to 15.7. The sim swap seems no longer necessary or even possible on iOS 7.0.4. Not sure if it still works in earlier versions. I had 4G/LTE data, voice, and SMS working on StraightTalk w/iOS7.04 & 15.7 but no MMS no matter what I tried, until I stumbled upon this process:

    1. Remove APN’s and do Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    2. Add wifi and download the tfdata apn. Disable wifi and test data & SMS. If no data, return to step one and try a different apn.
    3. Go to Settings > General > About and wait. You should get prompted to update carrier settings until it shows “Carrier 15.7″. The reset drops this back a few versions. Once I updated to 15.7, MMS started working again. I’m assuming the reset & apn reload allows this to work.

      Hi Charles,
Thanks for taking the time to share your fix. With TFW 15.6, data and mms work without the sim swap for many.
      Regards

Charles, I have an Verizon unlock iPhone 5s version 7.0.4; carrier update of TFW 15.7 and your exact problem. Currently have data, voice & SMS. Can send MMS but can’t receive. I’ve tried your recommendation but no success. When I try step 3, in the carrier field it already lists TFW 15.7 so nothing pops up. I’ve done the sim swap trick about 15 times, and no success with that either.

Bob, I tried your recommendations as well and really at a loss. Any additional suggestions?

      Thanks in advance – Lisa

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Lisa,
As I said in my article, this is a common problem since November. There is no reliable fix that seems to work for everyone. Call straight talk and ask them to check your settings. I see you have been reading the comments. Some people seems to solve it by tried alternative mms proxy and MMSC values with the sim swap.

Did you keep a lost of which values you tried?. Did you reboot you phone between testing each time?

        Regards
        Bob

  99. Mike says:

I was having trouble with no data of MMS IPhone 4 version 6.2 and had the old sim card that used att.mvno. Data and MMS stopped working in Nov of 13. I purchased the new version sim and used these settings.
    APN tfdata
    MMS APN: tfdata
    MMSC http://mms-tf.net
    MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com:80
    MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
    MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

Everything is working now including MMS, please note one of the strings shows the MMS UA prof as /usprdf.rdf It should be /usprof.rdf hope this helps.

I did not do a sim swap, just activated new sim and entered the above settings. It is unlocked

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi mike,
Do you know if you are using the straight talk att or tmobile sim? I’m surprise to hear you are able to enter the settings without the sim swap?

      Regards

      • Mike says:

I am using the straight talk ATT sim bring your own device. When I first activated this phone I had to purchase the older sim about the time they dried up and was using the att.mvno until mid November and data and mms both quit working. I decided to try the newer sim since I have one in my S3 that works perfectly. On wifes I phone 4 unlocked and jail broken 6.2 operating I installed new card and used the setting from earlier note….everything works fine now

Had this problem for the past few days, IOS 7.0.4, could get data with the either the straighttalk apn or with NO apn profile, but no mms…on a whim I tried the net 10 (iphone) apn profile from unlockit.co.nz, and it worked! So maybe it’ll work for others, worth a shot.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Dan,
Thanks for sharing the tip. That is interesting because those profiles are pretty much the same. I heard someone else mention this too.
I’ll have to ask someone else to try it.

I bought an unlocked iphone 5S and swithced service yesterday. Running iOS 7.0.4 and TFW 15.7. Everything was working last night. Today I still have data working but SMS and MMS messaging does not work. I cannot send or receive text msgs. In addition, when I tried to activate Facetime and iMessage I get “Waiting for activation…” consistenly. Once this morning when I tried to activate iMessage it gave ma an activation error but I can’t duplicate the error msg again.

I can access the web and I’m getting fast download(28.9Mbps) and upload(5.66Mbps)speeds according to the Ookla speed test I did a few minutes ago (wifi and imsg turned off).

I’ve tried rebooting the phone to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Rex,
I got an iPhone 5s last week too! As for MMS, try reseting your network settings. Also a hard reset. PRess and hold the home and lock buttons.

As for iMessage, I do not believe your problem is related to straight talk. Does iMessage activate on wi-fi? iMessage has a lot of bugs.
      try this http://www.imore.com/having-trouble-imessage-or-facetime-ios-7-heres-how-fix-it

I called ST yday and ran through a laundry list of fixes to no avail. The last thing she could offer me was to restore my iphone. The first time I restored it as a new phone (hoping a clean restore would be better than from an old backup) but that did not work. Next I did a restore from my old backup (I figured if its not going to work at least I want all my stuff back on the phone). As soon as it booted it I started getting texts. Everything (knock on wood) seems to be working fine now.

TFW is what I see. I can send pics and It sends but it won’t Receive pics and I’ve tried everything

      Hi Robert,
Comments on the site are moderated so they don’t show up until I have had time to review and filter out the spam. As you can see from this article many people are having this problem. If you tried the resets I mentioned in the article and they haven’t worked, you might want to SIM swap and use some of the other MMSC and MMS Proxy values that readers reported in the comments. Right now, I don’t have a reliable fix. Try the suggestions in the comments.

  106. Del says:

    Hi Bob,

I have good news to share. My factory unlocked iPhone 4s using the original ST ATT SIM card is now fully functional with 7.0.4 and TFW 15.7. I lost the MMS functionality both ways to non-iPhone users shortly after my update to 7.0.3 without SIM swap (it worked initially). I updated to 7.0.4 without much luck despite SIM swap and plugging in the suggested APN values and repeated reset of network settings, one time reset all settings, and forced restart.

Until…the other day, I finally got the message from ST to power down my phone for new carrier settings. Once I turned the phone on, I reset the network settings and tried MMS (wifi off/iMessage off) to non-iphone users. I sent pictures that were confirmed received and I received pictures back.

Last night at 9 PM my speed test was:
    Download 8.23 Mbps
    Upload 1.08
    Ping 460

Tonight at 7PM my speed test was:
    Download 5.51 Mbps
    Upload .66 Mbps
    Ping 438

For me, I haven’t really noticed a speed slow down but I guess it depends on the time of day.

There is hope for other users. Just hang in there. Thank you Bob for this forum, at least people don’t feel isolated. I realize this is a lot of gratis work for you. That’s very noble of you.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi del,
Thanks for taking the time to come back and share. Like you I never really notice my data is slow but my speed tests vary from run to run. Glad to hear your mms is back.
      Regards
      Bob

  107. Techguy says:

The problem with the straight talk APN not functioning correctly for new users is solely due to settings on their system. When one inserts the proper APN settings (depending on whether you have an AT&T or TMobile Straight talk sim) they’re supposed to work automatically whether you’re using android, iOS, or Windows OS. Here’s where the issues start. To begin, I recognized this issue when I purchased a new ST sim for their new 4G LTE services. My issue, just like everyone else’s was the MMS was not working (I was using a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.1.2). No matter what I changed within my APN settings, nothing seemed to work…. until Samsung released an update for the S3 to Android 4.3. With this update users gained a few new options within the APN settings. After updating I noticed immediately that there was a new selection named “Mobile Virtual Network Operator.” By default it is selected as “None”. After doing research on what the different options stood for, I decided to change the setting from “None” to “IMSI”. Immediately after altering this setting, saving the APN, and restarting my Galaxy S3, picture messages and all MMS began flying in from a week before. It has been almost a month, and my phone is working perfectly. Sadly this alteration is not available on iOS, and (I think) Windows OS. But if android users have 4.3, and that setting is available within their APN area, then altering this will allow you to start receiving MMS immediately. I have made attempts to contact Straight Talk’s customer service, and corporate office about this setting issue that is causing MMS incompatibility with smartphones on their network, but have not heard a response back. Good luck everyone.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hey Techguy,
Thanks for the comment. I saw that MVNO option on my Nexus 5 but I didn’t need to play with it. I am pretty sure most cell GSM phones keep a database of SIM settings and program themselves according to the SIM inserted. Until recently, all iPhones recognized ST sims as ATT or TMobile SIMs. A recent update, sort of fixes it. The phone now programs one set of APN values when you put the sim in. The problem is ST uses three different APNs.

I’ll have to recommend your fix to some of the Android users having problems and see if it helps.
And bless you for trying to get ST to fix something.
      Regards
      Bob

    • Cindi Bethell says:

      Hi Bob,
I have an unlocked iphone 4S (used to be AT&T) and my ST SIM card is about 7 months old. My husband also has the 4S and same age SIM card, and both of our phones used to send and receive MMS picture messaging. I have spent my entire evening taking all the steps in your articles to see if I can fix this problem. I have also been emailing my contact at ST Executive Resolution Dept. We used to have unlockit.co.nz, however our data stopped working about one week apart in November so I contacted the rep, who told me to install the APN at http://iapnupdatetfdata.net10.com. (I’ve experimented with the ST APN but the speed is awful.)

We’ve installed the 15.7 TFW carrier update and our speeds are actually better than they were before per speed tests at Ookla. Actually, when our phones were on 15.6 we couldn’t register a speed test, but we did have some speed. Although we are on ST, in Nov. the ST rep told me to install the APN at http://iapnupdatetfdata.net10.com. (I’ve experimented with the ST APN but the speed is awful.)

      1. First, I removed the Net 10 profile and reinstalled it per the rep’s instructions. Then I removed the profile. I turned off wi-fi and data worked fine, however MMS picture messaging is limited on my phone to sending only. I cannot receive MMS messages. (On my husband’s iphone which is set up identically to mine, he can receive MMS, but cannot send.)

      2. I then did a SIM swap using the T-mobile sim and was able to access the APN settings. To my surprise, they were set up right (tfdata.) The only thing missing was the Port 80 which I added to the end of the Proxy (:80). I also added the MMS UA prof url after testing and finding no change. Here are the settings:
      APN tfdata
      MMS APN: tfdata
      MMSC http://mms-tf.net
      MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com:80
      MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
      MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

I reset the network settings and then tried sending MMS again. I still cannot receive MMS, but can send successfully. My husband’s phone can receive MMS but cannot send! Both phones have been set to turn off Imessages and turn on MMS & Group Msgs as you instructed.

I agree that this must be a problem with the network and not the phones. I have emailed the ST rep again tonight and will share what she advises if it’s anything new. Thank you for your time.

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Cindi,
I hope you get an answer from Straight Talk other than “we don’t guarantee MMS will work”. I always had some reports from readers about MMS working in one direction or the other. I’d refer people to the FAQ. Net10 Data, Internet and MMS APN Frequently Asked Questions. As a last resort, I’d tell people to back up their phone and restore it as new in iTunes, then set up data and MMS. then restore the backup. This worked for a lot of people. Most people are reluctant to do that and I understand why.

I started getting flooded with reports about receiving MMS about a month ago, from both iPhone and non iPhone users. If you look in the comments some people have fixed the problem using MMS Proxy: mms2.tracfone.com:80 as well as using some of the other MMSC and MMS Proxy values.

If you want to try some other possible fixes:
        1. test MMS with Wi-Fi off
        2. Make sure Roaming is on in your cellular settings
        3. Also, you can try deleting your entire Messaging history. I read somewhere that sometimes old messages may be corrupt and cause a problem. You should be able to back them up to iClould first.

Also you can try swapping SIMs between your two phones and see what happens. Does your husband’s SIM behave the same in his phone as yours? and vice versa.

LEt me know if you try and how it goes.
        Regards
        Bob

        • Cindi Bethell says:

Bob, I forgot to mention that I did swap the SIM card from my husband’s iphone to mine b/c his MMS is working both ways. It didn’t change – inbound messages still did not appear.

          • Cindi Bethell says:

            Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply. I did further testing with my husband’s iphone and he is sending/receiving MMS successfully, as are my 2 daughter’s iphones.

I tried the suggestions in your reply to no avail, so I called my executive resolution rep again today. She got the “carrier” on the other line and we went through the settings on my iphone. The tech also sent me some new updates, so I powered off/on, however I still cannot receive MMS messages. When I try to send a picture message from my husband’s phone to mine, his phone shows that the message was sent. It no longer gives the message “Not Delivered” in red. So those messages are out there somewhere and I know they will be delivered someday if this ever gets fixed!

I am supposed to be receiving more updates this weekend from the carrier, so the instructions were to power the iphone off/on several times during the weekend. If the picture messages don’t come through, then I am supposed to contact executive resolution on Monday.

I will update you with any new developments. It sounds like the carrier really doesn’t know how to fix this, doesn’t it?

Thanks once again for your assistance with this problem. You are a wealth of information!

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Cindi,
You must be amazing on the phone with support. Most people tell me they just get the we don’t guarantee MMS speech. If I were you I’d backup my iPhone using iTunes and and restore my iPhone to a fresh install. After that, I’d set it up a a new iphone and only enter enough info to see if I could get data and MMS working. Only after I was done with that(whether or works or not) then I would restore the backup to my phone.

Thank you for taking the time to update me with your case. I started this website after I switched to prepaid to share some of what I learned. Now months later all people from all over the US share there problems and resolutions. It’s pretty awesome.

It will be so cool to see you get all four iPhones running correctly on ST. Let me know how it goes.

            Regards
            Bob

        • Cindi Bethell says:

          Hi Bob,
I have been working with the “carrier” through the ST customer service rep, and my MMS is now sending both ways. I spoke with her last Friday and she said to keep turning my iphone off/on during the weekend for updates. I tried some test messages last Monday, and those all came through early Wednesday morning. I also tested MMS using my son’s non-iphone and was able to send to his cell phone and also received successfully.

I was thinking that those APN changers are really the way the carrier gains control over the iphone, is that correct? Before that, when the bulk of us were using unlockit.co.nz, the ST rep would always tell me that there wasn’t any guarantee that MMS would work. So I guess they’ve figured out the fix. I would recommend that if a person can’t fix the MMS problem with the T-mobile SIM, they should contact ST customer service directly.

Thanks for being so kind to help all of us. I really learned a lot about the iphone from going through this experience and I appreciated your assistance.

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Cindi,
I am very happy to hear that your resolved this issue with Straight Talk. I am actually amazed that you were able to get tech support to help fix the problem for you. I am curious what you said to them that actually caused them to work on your case and resolve the problem.

The APN profiles your download from unlockit.co.nz and even from the Straight Talk website are simply configuration files. The problem with those files is that they only are capable of setting the data apn. It’s an Apple / iOS limitation. You can download a program from the Apple web site to create them. I did, I thought of offering my own APN profiles like unlockit.co.nz I decided to just provide the links to the ones on the Straight Talk web site. If you look inside any of those files for straight talk, you will see the they contain only the data apn. (tfdata, att.mvno, or wap.tracfone).

The Carrier settings are the way that AT&T, or T-Mobile or Straight Talk, can make more extensive changes to your phone. With carrier update TFW 15.6, Straight Talk finally got their own carrier settings. TFW 15.6 is what changed HOME in the status bar changed to TFW. And it’s why many ST customers no longer need to enter the APN settings using the SIM swap or install the APN profile on the iPhone, TFW 15.6 contains the correct Data and MMS APN settings. Unfortunately, if you Straight Talk account wasn’t using the tfdata APN, they still weren’t correct.

I really do wish I know what they did for you. As a note to the other readers, if you follow Cindi’s approach, ask the rep what they are doing. I’m hoping that maybe we can find the “magic words” that those of you with problems can say to the support rep to get them to do the same for you.

Finally, a big thanks to Cindi for providing detailed updates on her case and its resolution. Reader comments help me improve this site, and they help others having data and mms issues.

            Regards
            Bob

I am using a Verizon Iphone 5 with a straight talk ATT compatible sim. These settings worked for me with the TMobile sim swap.

      Cell Data APN: tfdata

      MMS APN: tfdata
      MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
      MMS Proxy: mms2.tracfone.com
      MMS Max Message Size: 1048576

I spent hours reading these forums and this is what worked for me. From my understanding this doesn’t mean it will work for you but its worth a try. I still don’t understand why mms2 worked instead of mms3 on the mms proxy but it worked.

  110. Laura says:

I have a AT&T iphone 4s with the latest ios and a 3 or 4 month old SIM card through Net10. When the update arrived just a couple days ago I ignored it at first because I didn’t want to take care of any problems that might pop up just then, but then I discovered that even without the update my 4g had stopped working. Yesterday the update option popped up again so I clocked ok thinking that would fix the problem right away, but it didn’t, my 4g no longer worked. Today I finally am able to sit down and try to figure out aht is wrong. I tried reinstalling a new apn setting profile from unlockit.co.nz which was the only way previously we (dh on iphone 4 with ios 6) could get any of our data and mms settings to work. But none of them worked. My power off button doesn’t work on my phone so I had to let the battery die on order to restart it (it was time for me to do my monthly battery drain anyways0. Once I powered it back on I had 3g working and could send mms just fine (this is with no apn profiles) and I thought I could not receive mms, although just now as I type this last bit the pic I sent from my husbands phone to mine finally arrived somewhere between 5-10min after it said it was sent on my husbands phone. We have experienced issues like that a lot with our carrier. Sometimes I will text my husband all day long and he wont receive a single one until hours later I call him and all the sudden all those texts I sent arrive on his phone. I don’t know if it’s his phone or our carrier. I haven’t had issues with anyone else like that, the only other issues I have had is a long time ago texts from my cousin who uses AT&T occasionaly would never arrive and vice versa but that hasn’t happened in a long time.

Many people are having trouble receiving MMS. You get messages from iPhone users because they are coming in using iMessage which uses your data connection.
Check the comments, some people are reporting they have fixed their MMS problem using different MMSC and MMS proxy values.

      Hi Scott,
Check smartphonematters.com to see the post about TFW 15.7. Your iMessage may be slow because your data slowed down. Check the comments to see the difference MMS settings that some readers have used to fix their MMS problems.

I am currently on the Tfw settings as I’ve change the apn settings. Can you help ??

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Shawnda,
You never had to jailbreak to get MMS to work. The guides on my site show how to do set MMS by doing the SIM swap. With Carrier Update TFW 15.6, many ST iPhones automatically program Data and MMS now. The inability to receive MMS is a recently problem that is affecting many right now. I don’t know of a reliable fix at this time. Some readers have managed to fix the problem by adjusting their MMS settings. Take a look at the comments to see how.

Hello, I have a locked att iPhone 4 with the new ios7 and the newest carrier update. I got this update just this morning. I can send mms, participate in group messages, iMessage and I have data, but I can’t receive mms. Do you have an idea of how to fix this? The sim swap doesn’t work for me. Thanks, britany

    • Britany says:

Well I’ve tried the sim swap but I’ve never had to because all I had to do was put the att SIM card in to get it to work

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Britney,
There is no known reliable fix for this. Some readers report SIM swapping and using a combination of Carrier Data Network settings that have worked for them.
It’s not clear from your comment if you tried these values or are unable to SIM swap.
      Regards

  116. Ron nappier says:

I have iPhone 5 with ios 7.0.4 and have had it for 3 weeks.
Internet Service is with Strait Talk t-mobile. Before I set up MMS yesterday I could send and receive photos and videos. I got a pop up setting yesterday That said I needed MMS settings. I contacted Strait Talk and got set up with their MMS settings. This was my mistake. After setup I have no MMS, can’t text photos. I then delete their settings and do not have the ability to send and receive photos, nor can I talk face to face on Facetime. I have reset my internet settings but still no MMS. Straight Talk says tha MMS is not guaranteed. Can you help?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Ron,
Are you sure you were sending & receiving MMS and not iMessages? iMessages appear blue and use your data connection?

I think I can help you. Go into Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Network. Take a screenshot of the values in there. You might need two. Press home and lock at the same time. You’ll hear a shutter sound.
Now remove all the values. So everything is blank. enter wap.tracfone in the First APN field. Tap Cellular. Restart your phone by holding the lock button until slide to lock appears. Reboot test data and face time let me know how it goes.

      Regards

Still having trouble with my iphone not recognizing my sim card after swapping (tmobile or att), unless I restart my phone. Restaring the phone resets the tfdata settings, though. Any suggestions? Should I get new sim cards?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi David,
Did you try pressing and holding the home and lock buttons to reset your phone? It doesn’t erase your data. I think you said you tried the Reset Network Settings.

  120. Van says:

I had no data after the 7.04 update, Wi-Fi only. The removal of the apn profile and network reset restored everything to working order. Thank you for the post.

  121. Vinnie says:

I’m trying to fix my data and mms and lte or 4g. My phone stays on 3G with no option for 4g when I stick my straight talk tmobile SIM card in. I have a locked tmobile iPhone 5s. Running 7.0.4. I downloaded the apn from straight talk but my mms won’t work. I mainly want lte or 4g because 3G sucks. I had an iPhone 5 and it said tfw but my iPhone 5s says home with 3G. My carrier update is currently at 15.5 Any help will be helpful sorry for the double post

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Vinnie,
OK. You have a T-Mobile locked iPhone 5s and a Straight Talk T-Mobile SIM. You previously used this ST T-Mobile SIM card in your iPhone 5? And your network name was TFW? and you had 3G? 4G? LTE?

You won’t be able to configure MMS using the APN profile, you will need to go into Settings do do this. Read the second part of my guide: How to Setup Straight Talk Wireless Data and MMS for your iPhone running iOS 7.

You should not need to SIM swap. If you are using the ST TMobile SIM you should have the Cellular Data Network settings.

Your carrier is Carrier 15.5, not ATT 15.5 correct? Go into Settings General About and wait a few seconds and see if your phone prompts you to download a new Carrier update. Try plugging your phone into iTunes and see if it asks to update the carrier.

As for LTE. I don’t have experience with Straight Talk TMobile. I was under the impression that they only support 4G HSPA+, not LTE. LTE is pretty new for TMobile, I am not sure that its available to their MVNOs (all the prepaid carriers that resell Tmobile service).

Try the above, see if you get TFW 15.6 and /o r data and MMS working.

BTW… did you pay full price for that phone? Was it activated for 40 days on T-Mobile? is so, they should unlock it for you for free.

Let me know how it goes.
      Regards
      Bob

  122. Tim says:

My data and mms stopped working last night, went to attempt the “sim swap” trick today when i got home from work. all it took was to eject the ST sim and reboot the phone, then insert the card again. the 7.0.4 seems to have the proper mms and data settings finally! This is with one of the ‘older’ at&t sims as well!

My imessages arent working i get text messages and can use data but my imessages will not come through immediatly they show up 5-20 min after they had been sent i need help net 10 said i need ios 7.0.3 but i am on ios 7.0.4

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi James,
I’d try the instructions in the post. Do the resets. and try iMessage again. iMessages has a bunch of issues that are not related to your carrier. I am not sure I agree 7.0.4 will solve you problem. Do they show up quickly on wi-Fi?
      Regards

  124. clockcycle says:

It was recently suggest by Straight Talk support to use “mmsc: http://mms-cf.mec” while configuring an HTC One X. I am not sure if that works for anyone.

  125. clockcycle says:

I have been using a Motorola Atrix HD (android) with Straight Talk’s Tmobile compatible SIM. APN set to APN: wap.tracfone, PORT: 8080, MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com, rest is blank or left default. Everything works. My wife’s Iphone 4 iOS 6 on the other hand started getting issues with her data and MMS sporadically. Started around Nov. 19. Then suddenly she couldn’t send MMS. I just edited her APN from att.mvno to tfdata and data works, using proxy 66.206.11.33:80 (which is the same as mms3.tracfone.com) she is able to send MMS again, but not receive.

  126. David says:

I have had tons of issues since switching to an iphone5 on net10. I has net10 for about a yr with an android phone and about 2 months ago I got an Iphone5 at first I had no data until the 7.0.3 update now no matter what I do I can’t send mms occasionally I receive them hours after ppl send them. I am using the SIM card for an att phone. I am so annoyed especially since that text from net10 telling me to restart my phone for updates deleted my voicemail. Nothing I have tried has worked I even bought the new lte SIM card I’m about to leave net10

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Amy,
I am sorry to hear about your troubles with Net10 and your iPhone. Setting up data and MMS on your iPhone with Net10 has always been tricky. I have a few step by step guides on the web site that show how to do that. As for MMS, in the last two weeks many Net10 and Straight Talk customers are reporting issues with MMS. This incldes iphone, android, and windows phones too.

If you know how to SIM swap you can try some of the alternative settings to see if you can get MMS working. You can lear how to SIM swap by reading my guide. How to Set up Net10 Web, Data, and MMS for Your iPhone Running iOS 7. You can find the alternative settings in the comments on this post.

Finally, if you want to discuss alternatives to Net10 we could do that too. You have choices with prepaid service.

      Regards
      Bob

  128. Josh says:

I have an iPhone 4 on AT&T Straight Talk and I got my SIM card February this year. It has always worked great, MMS and everything (my phone is jailbroken) but now it has to be the worst service I have ever had. Data is extremely slow and laggy (shows 0.04 Mb download/upload on Speedtest app, and no my data has not been throttled – this is the second month it has been like this) and I can get MMS to send but I cannot receive a thing. I got a text from Straight Talk telling me to update my APN data settings, and I changed it from att.mvno to the newer tfdata. It worked great for about two days then was back to normal. My SIM card still displays the HOME service name. I am thinking of activating a new SIM card but am not quite sure what to do next.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi josh,
If you do not have carrier TFW 15.6 your phone will still show home and not TFW. If you don’t have iOS 7, you won’t get TFW 15.6.

I’d try doing a reset, hold home and lock until the phone reboots. Then I’d try a reset all settings and see if that helps your data speed. As for receiving mms, many people are reporting this problem. There is no solution that consistently works. You can look through the comments to see how some readers have solved their problem.

At least one reader reported updating his sim didn’t help.

Keep checking the site for updates.

      Regards
      Bob

I have an AT&T IPhone 3GS that is unlocked and jail broken. I had my sim for 1 yr and fixed my apn settings and I could get my mms. And than a mo ago st made changes and now mms is not working. Help!!! Thank you!!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Miranda,
Did you follow the steps in this article? If the issue is you can’t receive MMS, then you have the same issue as many others. There currently isn’t any reliable fix for this. Some people report fixing their MMS. Read the comments to see how. I haven’t added any of those solutions to my guides because they aren’t proven reliable.

  130. Heather says:

I was wondering if I switched to Straight talk and use my locked iPhone(att&t) 4S will I be able to send or receive MMS messages once I purchase a Straight Talk SIM card? I have the software version 0.7.4

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Heather,
Maybe. Many people have followed the guides on smartphonematters.com and successfully set up MMS. Some readers, however, have and trouble configuring MMS to work. In the last week or so, many straight talk customers are reporting problems receiving MMS on iPhones, android, and windows phones.

If you are looking to change from ATT to prepaid service, you have options. If you are interested, we have a number of articles on the web site that can tell you about your choices and what you need to know to make an informed choice.

Let me know if you would like some help understanding your options.

  131. David says:

What is going on!? I’ve had to sim swap for the 2nd time in 2 days, and now I cannot sim swap at all! Is anyone else having this issue? After I take the sim card out and put the new one in, my phone will not recognize the new sim card (inactive T-mobile sim or active ATT sim) even after ejecting and putting it back in a second time. My phone will say “no sim” until I restart the phone, but I believe this is affecting how the settings are saved in the phone, because now I cannot get data or mms to work.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi David,
I have not heard any reports about this recently. Usually if your phone isn’t recognizing either SIM, a hard reset or reset all settings fixes that. Also make sure your SIM is seated properly in the tray.

      Did you try that?
      Regards
      Bob

      • David says:

The sims are definitely sitting in the tray correctly. I reset all settings, but that did not change anything. I have not done a hard reset yet…I’m holding out to do that. The phone recognizes the sim cards AFTER I restart the phone, but as soon as I swap out one for the other, it will not recognize either one. I have been trying to do the sim swap by putting in the t-mobile card, restarting my phone so it will recognize sim, accessing cellular network settings, switch to notes app, sim swap att card, restart phone again to regognize sim, then access cellular network settings, but as soon as I go into the cellular network settings screen, the network settings menu disappears immediately. As of this time, I can no longer sim swap. I have attempted at least a dozen times to no avail.

  133. Dean says:

    Hello,
A couple weeks ago my data and mms stopped working. So I updated my phone to the new ios 7 and the new carrier settings (tfw 15.6). I then called straight talk and had my old SIM provisioned for the new tfdata settings. Now I can’t receive mms message, but my data works fine, and I can send mms. Has anyone experienced this issue and found a solution to the problem? I tried the suggest method from the post to no avail. Please let me know when there is a fix.

    Thanks,
    Dean

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi dean,
I don’t know of a reliable fix for this. If you look through the comments there are a few reports of people trying various mms settings and fixing it. The results don’t seems repeatable. Keep an eye on the site for updates.
      Regards
      Bob

  134. David says:

Question: When my phone updated about a week ago, my carrier changed from “HOME” to “TFW”. After this change, I no longer needed to do a sim swap…the settings were already predefined into the iphone. After I restarted my phone today, however, my phone carrier flipped back from “TFW” to “HOME”, and now I have to sim swap again. Is there an iapnudate_ or something that can restore my phone carrier back to “TFW”? Thanks!

    • David says:

I did try the usual iapnupdates:

      iapnupdateatt.straightalk.com
      iapnupdatetfdata.straightalk.com
      iapnupdate.straighttalk.com

None changed the phone carrier, and only tfdata worked for data (but no mms). I reset network settings, and did my sim swap (my usual tfdata settings with mms proxy mms3.tracfone.com didn’t work….only mms proxy mms2.tracfone.com works for me now), but phone carrier still says “HOME” now.

  135. ScottN says:

I just set up 2 iPhone 4s’s with net10 (btw, I found out the hard way if you try to port you number after you register your sim card, they have to send you a new sim card. Luckily they overnight it so I was only out a couple days with no phone). On 1 phone everything works fine, calls, data, texts. On the other calls and data work fine but no texts. Doesn’t give an error, just the texts are not sent out or received. As far as I can tell the setups were the same. Will wait and see what happens.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Scott,
Yea. I had that problem too. Net10 ported a number to an active sim for me. ST wouldn’t. Did they charge you for the SIMs?
Try swapping the sims between the two phones. When you say texts.. Do you means SMS or mms picture and group texts?

      Regards
      Bob

      • ScottN says:

No, they didn’t charge me for the SIMs or the shipping (they even shipped both sims separately, doubling the cost). I’ve only tried SMS and that didn’t work. I’ll try the sim swap to see if that fixes it.

        • ScottN says:

          Hi Bob,

Well, after more testing, it looks on the one bad phone I can send mms but not receive mms, and I cannot send or receive sms. When I switched SIMS from the working to the non working phone I was able to receive sms on the nonworking phone. Does this mean there is something wrong with the SIM card? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

  136. Jeff H. says:

    Bob,

Just wanted to give you an update with my MMS recieve with a iPhone 4S. As you remember I could not get it to work with any APN etc. with my 1 yr old SIM card in either of the 2 iPhones I have. I put in the brand new SIM card and mine (in my unlocked AT&T branded iPhone) started working a few days ago. Can send MMS and receive MMS from anyone. Now I updated my wife’s locked AT&T branded phone last night with the new LTE SIM card, she got my MMS (not iMessage) today about midday when I sent it last night. Here is what I did on both phones with the new card (not sure if this will work with the old sim or not)

    1. Went into phone and deleted any APN profile
    2. Took out old sim, hit OK to No SIM prompt
    3. Put in new AT&T Straight Talk SIM
    4. Transferred old sim to new sim on Straight Talk’s website
    5. Shut phone off, turned back on.
    6. Wait to get welcome SMS from Straight Talk
    7. Try Data to see if works, Try SMS, MMS Send & iMessage (if iPhone), also try phone call in and out
    8. Use phone normally and within 24-48 hours MMS receive should work (did on my wife’s phone)

I did not and will not try to install a APN as it automatically puts in all values for the APN when you put in the SIM card for tfdata APN and the mms3 part of the APN. I have seen this with doing the T-Mobile SIM swap trick.

Hopefully everyone else will be able to start receiving the MMS here soon, I hope this helps someone out as it worked for me on 2 iPhones.

I am able to send and receive mms. So I wanted to say thank you for your help. If it werent for your forum I would still be trying to figure out what happend.

I’ve posted a few days ago & was just wondering does anyone have LTE with the new ST 4G LTE SIM card on their iphone? Not only I can’t receive MMS (i can send mms to different cellular providers) I’m not getting LTE knowing I’m in a AT&T LTE coverage zone. Been reading tons of forums where people are getting LTE & MMS completely working on iPhone 4S/5/5C/5S… It must be just me that the ST gods doesn’t like… Not receiving MMS & no LTE! Calling ST tech/customer care and talking to someone is like talking to a 3 year old…

-AT&T iPhone 5S showing 4G instead of LTE
    -carrier 15.6
    -ios 7.0.4
-new ST 4G LTE AT&T SIM card cut with a sim cutter

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi StrayhOrm,
I am using both a Net10 & Straight Talk SIMs I bought in October that support 4G LTE. My MMS works in both directions. There is not evidence that the SIM you have makes a difference as to whether you can receive MMS. All the evidence points to a customers account, not their phone or SIM card.

As for LTE, I haven’t heard anyone report issues with it. Assuming there is AT&T in your area, it should work. I assume you have LTE enabled in your Settings? You should check that. If you have a friend with an ATT iphone with ATT or even any 4G LTE phone, swap the SIMs and see if their phone shows LTE with your SIM and vice versa.

I think a reader just reported his MMS just started working, and he was receiving all the test mms messagees sent to him tonight.

If my LTE didn’t work, and I tried it in serval locations. I’d do a iTunes restore on my phone and test it with a fresh iOS install. I have no evidence this will help, it’s just what I do.

I sort of feel sorry for ST tech support. They are only as good as their training allows them to be. They probably have not ever even been given the chance to use a Straight Talk phone or service.

Keep checking the site for updates on these problems. Let me know if if you had LTE turned on.
      Regards
      Bob

  149. Jeff H. says:

    Bob,

I have read through all the comments here and I believe you are 100% right about this issue being with ST or Net10′s network. I have also got a 4S iPhone along with my wife with a ST SIM purchased about a year ago. Phones were never tied to a normal contract but were for the AT&T network. Since we got them, could never use MMS until about 2-3 months ago I broke down ad got a T-Mobile SIM to do the SIM swap. Everything was fine until about a week ago when I updated from 7.0.2 to 7.0.4. We got the carrier update as well and I have been all over looking to see how to fix this when I came upon your site. It has been very helpful to a point where nothing still worked on my unlocked nor my wife’s locked AT&T iPhones. I then turned to Straight Talk and via about 30 emails, still could not get it to work with my last year’s SIM card. So I broke down and bought 2 new SIM cards. I put one in my phone and have been through everything again and still no MMS receive. I can ‘send’ a MMS to myself as it seems to send but I don’t get it back. I have tried to send to non-iPhone before the new SIM but all they got was a blank box with a play button in it. I wished ST would get their s@&^# together and fix their network to allow everything to work as it should of in the first place. Will keep watch on here for any updates as I love my phone and when paying the amount I did to get the phones to get on ST low cost cell plan. It makes it hard to buy a new phone 1 year later.

      Bob,

Just wanted to say that I just sent a MMS to my email. It came through, surprisingly, and it shows the email from as: 10 digit phone # @mms-tf.net. So while being able to send them, I think it is their network not delivering the messages at all. With all that I have sent in the past week, whenever it works I am going to have a ton of messages coming back to me lol.

      • Jeff H. says:

Sorry for multiple posts but here is something I found when looking at the message source of the received MMS email on ST and from one that my Uncle sent me.

In the email I sent to myself, here is what is listed for the “Received” address:

        Received: [173.209.***.***] (port=49684 helo=chi-tf-util002.syniverse.com)

Here is the same line from my Uncle’s MMS to Email:

        Received: from stcceg-momta01-mms.mycingular.net ([209.183.**.**]:50795)

I have omitted some of the IP address, but I believe he is on a Tracfone but the address from is what has me puzzled from my MMS to Email.

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Jeff,
Comments from readers are a good thing. You should see the amount of Spam comments I have to moderate every day. I’ll have to take a closer look at the addresses a little later. the mms.mycingular.net is part of the ATT network back from the Cingular wireless acquisition a few years back. Maybe there is hack to find some alternative MMS proxty / MMSC values there.

          Regards
          Bob

      • Bob Thompson says:

        Hi Jeff,
This essentially shows that the MMS are leaving your phone and making it through the MMS to email. If you get a chance, reply to that email and attach a picture and see if you get the email as an MMS. Try it with and without a picture attachment. I’d like to hear if it makes it through or not.

        Regards
        Bob

        • Jeff H. says:

          Bob,

I tred to send a email MMS reply back to my phone, one with a picture and one without. I have yet to see it come back in on my phone. I did try yesterday also to send/receive a MMS to my brother’s Verizon Galaxy S4. He got the picture I sent ok but when he sent one back, I got no message at all. So from what I am getting out of all of this it is all part of the network changeover and they have not got what they need set right in their system. I did visit the syniverse.com website yesterday and did some looking around to see who they were. It looks like they are the middle man of things and they could possibly be where the problem lies or it is the carrier for ST/Net10.

          • Jeff H. says:

            Bob,

Just an update to my MMS ordeal. As I said before I had just put in a new SIM card I bought last week.. Tried everything and got nowhere… Now Fast forward to just about 2 minutes ago, my iPhone goes nuts with msg alerts. I got all of the MMS I sent out to myself while testing, the one my brother sent and the one I sent back from my email. I am on the bare bones APN that is filled in when putting the SIM card in. I tried another suggestion earlier in the day with the SIM swap and it did not work, so I just took out the ST sim card, waited for the no sim, clicked ok. Waited about 10 seconds or so, put ST sim card back in. Waited for TFW to show up with 4G (no Wi-Fi turned on at this point) checked Data and that worked, SMS worked, No MMS, turn wi-fi on and went on with my day. Apparently they have fixed something on their end. I have not been in contact with ST about the new sim not working with receiving MMS, it just started working. Hopefully others here will also start working for them now as well.

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hey Jeff,
That is great news. I really appreciate you coming back and providing an update. I was doing some research on MMS today to see if I could find more suggestions for people to try. I don’t think we will get any answers from straight talk. I kind of think the network updates and moving many users to tfdata is causing the problems. I hope everyone starts having the same experience as you. Please feel free to come back and comment any time if I can help you.
            Regards
            Bob

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the comment. Yes. This really seems to be pointing to issues with the Straight Talk and Net10 networks. And, with the iOS .7.0.4, TFW 15.6 carrier update, and APN changeover to tfdata for many customers all happening at the same time its making it very difficult for those two reply on MMS.

I am going to look to do an AIO and ATT Pay and Go review soon to see if things workers better. Net10 is still a grat choice for me, because I don’t use MMS that much, but I’dd like to start looking at alternatives so people can make an informed choice.

Keep an eye on the site for updates.

      Regards
      Bob

      • Jeff H. says:

        Bob,

I enjoy ST as a overall service, I really don’t use the MMS part very often as I mostly send pictures to my wife and that goes over iMessage. It just would be nice to be able to send/receive MMS to the rest of family and friends when we needed to. Will be keeping an eye on here for any updates and to see your review when it is available. Will also chime in if I ever get things to work on my end.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Deb,
Sounds like you have the same problem as everyone else. You can try this
Check out smartphonematters.com for the latest info on this.

      Remove any installed APN profiles.
Go into Settings->General->Reset and Reset All Network Settings
      Test your data and MMS
      if it doesn’t work
Do a hard reset press and hold the lock and home buttons until the phone restarts
      Test your data and MMS
      if it doesn’t work
follow the guide, either install the APN profile (use the tfdata profile) of data only or SIM swap to try for data and MMS

I had left messages on the other page, before this one was created, but I have a 3gs running ios 6 and have had my sim card for about 7 months and I still can’t receive MMS messages. But just thought I would give Bob this piece of info about this situation. I put my husbands sim card in my phone, which he has an Android and the setting are still the old att.mvno and with his sim card in my phone I could both receive and send MMS. He put my sim card in his phone and the same thing happened he as it does in my iphone you can send but not receive. So my situation at least, ST has somehow messed up my sim card because it worked fine until I got the “message” to turn it off for updates. Thanks!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Melissa
Thanks for the update. I appreciate you sharing that with the readers here. I have been answering a lot of comments here that last few days. I have pretty much suspected this is both a straight talk and a phone issue. Many peoples phone need a reset to get working and then they find the receive mms issue. I have non iPhone reporting issues too.

If think the issue is they are updating users to the new tfdata APN. Then they send that text, then you find out you have that the new setting work for you or not. Unfortunately this is happening at the same time as iOS 7.0.4 is released.

      Regards

I can send mms but I can’t receive mms, data works great with tfdata APN. I’ve tried every APN possible via sim swap & even mixing up APN/mms/proxy, soft reset, resetting network, restoring through itunes to revert back to the old carrier 15.X etc etc… and nothing seems to work. Called straight talk to reprovision my service, send another signal, installed profile etc… Nothing works, please help me! Please email me.
Been a die hard love/hate apple/mac fan since the mid 90′s & would say I’m pretty savy when it comes to tech things and all things apple but I’m super stumped… I think it’s not the iOS because I’ve been reading forums where the new carrier update 15.6 works great for a lot of people (iphone 4/4S) but I haven’t seen anyone talk about a 5/5S/5C mms fully working… I have a good feeling it’s on straight talks end not working! Same thing with my wife’s unlocked AT&T iphone 5/ios 7.0.3/ carrier 15.6/new AT&T 4G sim not receiving mms but can send mms just fine to different carriers… We both have a lot of pics floating around somewhere…

      strayhOrn,
Hi. I am responding via the comments. (I edited your email address out of the comment).

I have and iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.4 and carrier profile TFW 15.6. My data and MMS work in both directions without the need to SIM swap. Many readers are reporting they cant receive MMS. I do not know what the problem is. I think its on the Straight Talk and Net10 side myself. I have a few reports from Windows Phone 8 and Android users that they are having a problem too.

Getting MMS to work has always been a pain in the, well you know. In the past I documented all the workarounds here on the smartphonematters.com. This week the reports of MMS issues after APN changes from Straight Talk have gone up dramatically.

In the past, as a last resort to SIM swap, data, and MMS problems I have suggested to people they use backup their phone, and do an iTunes restore. Once restored to factory settings, try to set up data and MMS. Restore your backup when finished (after either result). I have NO evidence this will work. All I can say is its what I would do if I had the problem. Also, if you paid the full price for your iPhone 5s you might want to put the T-Mobile SIM in your phone when you try it. Your phone might unlock as part of the process. Also maybe you will get data and MMS (send at least) without the need to SIM swap or install profiles.

if you try this with your iPhone 5S, let me know how it goes. It would sure help or rule out solutions for the many readers that are asking me for help.
      Regards
      Bob

Thanx for the reply. Question, are you using the new AT&T 4G LTE straight talk sim with the new carrier update 15.6? Is your iphone 5 unlocked & what cellular provider was/is your iphone 5 under? I’ve tried what you have mentioned with resetting network, restore through itunes (restore with another sim like tmobile other than a AT&T sim) and didn’t put a backup on the iphone so I can start with a clean ios install. Also it will not unlock during the restore. Tried multiple APN/MMS setting to no avail. I can send mms all day long to different people I know with different cellular providers but I can’t receive mms even when I try to send a pic to myself. The only data APN that works is tfdata & nothing else. Been with ST for 2 months after leaving a $119 contract bill with a major cellular company & not being able to use a feature that I enjoy/use very often kinda blows… Mos def thing about switching back cause obviously I’m not getting what I’m paying for… Mos def a unhappy ST customer

Bob, do these instructions apply to both the GSM and CDMA (Straight Talk) variations of the the iPhone 5? Or GSM only? I am having a similar issue to Michelle and several others with a Walmart Straight Talk (CDMA) iPhone 5 – “Could not activate cellular data network”

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi Eliot,
I don’t have direct experience working with the Straight Talk iPhones using Verizon CDMA. My guide for setting up the APNs to get data and MMS working are for people using GSM iPhones.

However, If it were me, I’d try the hard reset and reset network settings and see if it helps. I don’t see how it would make things worse. If you try it and it doesn’t work, try dialing *22890. My understanding is that dialing that number is part of Straight talk setup and it sets up data and mms.

Again, this is what I would do, not proven to be safe or effective.

If you get a chance, let me know how it goes.

Again, please disregard (I think I need to sleep!). When I tested receiving mms, apparently that was sent using imessage as well when I had that turned off. Again, I apologize for flooding the comments section, but my mms does appear to be working, and it seems that I no longer have to keep doing a sim swap to keep my mms working as the tfdata settings are already present now when I attempt to do that.

Thanks so much for helping me update my APN settings. Everything I was reading on ST website was “we will send you a private message” and I figured there must be a faster answer somewhere!! So thanks! My data is working again. I went from att.mvno to tfdata.

I have always known my MMS didn’t work (had ST for about 8 mos) unless through iMessage and just came to terms with it not working otherwise. Am I reading correctly that if I have an ATT sim and no tmobile sim to do the swap trick that I can not get MMS to work at all?

    Thanks!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Patty,
Glad it hear your got data back.
Some st customers, like me don’t need to sim swap or install profiles anymore. I know why it works for me. Not sure why it does it work for others. You can try it. Remove your APN profile. Reset network settings. Test your dats. If it works. Test mms. If it does not work, press and hold the lock and home buttons until your phone restarts. Test data and mms works. If data doesn’t work you’ll need to install the APN profile again.

If you can’t get mms working, you ll have to try the sim swap. If you want mms it’s worth it to pick up a tmobile network sim on ebay for a couple bucks and try it. I rarely use mms myself. Mostly just endless testing here at smartphonematters HQ.

If you do use mms or group texts I think it’s worth the nominal expense and time to give it a shot
      Regards,
      Bob

I just began my experience with NET10, and have found that I can neither send nor receive MMS messages. Data works right out of the gate, not APN install necessary or T-Mobile SIM swap. I’ve done the t-mobile swap, but the settings I’m putting in aren’t sticking. They just go back to whatever they were before.

It’s only texting that doesn’t work. If I call NET10, they just ask that I reboot and reboot and reboot and then reset every setting. One day into using NET10, and this is going to be a no-go.

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Jonathan,
Try this. Remove any I installed APN profiles. Go into settings and do a reset network settings. Test data and mms. If it doesn’t work, sim swap. Do it carefully. After you save the settings turn on airplane mode for one minute. It help at he settings stick for some people.

You need to be careful while you sim swap. Your phone tries to change the apns while you are editing. In your case though, your APN is probably tfdata, but that should be the APN you are seeing populated after you put the net10 sim back in.

Are you following my ios7 guide?

I’ve tried putting phone in airplane mode quickly, and multiple reboots. I’ve also reset all network settings before doing any of these changes.

I’ve got an iphone4 on iOS 6 and my data and MMS quit working after I received a text in the middle of the night yesterday saying I needed to “power your phone off and on to receive latest updates!”. I had been using att.mvno but after much frustration I called straight talk and they had me install the tfdata APN profile. I haven’t yet done the sim swap to check MMS functionality but I bet that will fix it.

Basically, anyone who received that cryptic text (hopefully not in the middle of the night like me!) probably had their APN settings changed by Straight Talk and need to download the new profile.

Hope this helps someone out there.

      Hi Ben,
Thanks for sharing. Yes Straight Talk and Net10 are seem to be moving customers from the wap.tracfone and att.mvno apns to wap.tracfone. Installing the new profile will fix data and not MMS.
      Regards
      Bob

Thanks for the information. I noticed the 3G thing but did not think it was an issue until both my iPhone and wife’s iPhone could not sustain battery life for more than 6 hours after full charge. Now after reverting to 15.6, battery seems ok.. BTW, straight talk was absolutely NO HELP!!!!!
    Thanks again

    Hi Jack,
Glad it helped. You are the first to report that TFW 15.7 lowered battery life! Wow. Thanks for sharing your observation about that. I wonder is that is a problem for others. Do yuo mnd if I ask what model iPhone you have?
    Regards
    Bob

how do you revert back to 15.6? i have also noticed on Io7 tfw 16.0, my battery is almost dead after a few hours.

  180. Bob Thompson says:

    Hi Beth,
If you are using iOS 7.1, you can’t. Are you using 7.1?
    Regards

  181. Beth says:

Hi bob, yes i am on 7.1 version TFW 16.0 iPhone 4s unlocked AT&T. The SIM card swap didn’t work neither did the apn settings through straight talk. I actually called the corporate office in Florida and opened a ticket so I can receive android user pictures. Everything else works on my phone. It’s funny because 2 weeks ago I got a temp # on the same iPhone to try out the service while I was still using my android phone. I called they fixed the issue in 5mins. I just ported my # yesterday and same issue but ironically nobody knows how to fix it at straight talk. Gotta love them :)

  182. Bob Thompson says:

    Hi Beth,
This is a common problem. For some reason, when you transfer your number to Straight Talk, it can several days before you can receive MMS. I set up 3 Straight Talk phones in the last 6 months. I could send and receive MMS on the two phones with new numbers immediately. I could not receive MMS on the one with the transferred number. I tried the SIM in mu iPhone and my Android phone, so I gave up. Several days later I decided to see if I could fix the issue, only to find out it was working.

Some people do have an issue with sending and / or receiving MMS. And, some have fixed it by choosing alternative MMSC and MMS Proxy values. I don’t think you need to do that yet. Go to http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/support/apn enter your phone number and choose the Android 4 & 4.1 option. Let me know what APN settings the web site says you should be using.

    Regards,
    Bob
