Need settings for LG L40G running Android 4.0.3 on Net10. I have been unable to send/receive picture messages for about a week and a half, previously to that i had no problem. i downloaded an app to update net10 apn settings, and now it will only send pictures, but not receive them. Wondering if you have something different for me to try that will fix the situation.

      • Sarah says:

Hi Bob, I tried looking up APN settings, and receive this notification:
The Phone Number or the last 15 digits of the SIM card you entered does not belong to our GSM Bring Your Own Phone Program. Please note there is no need to update your APN Data settings if you have a Sprint or CDMA phone.

My current settings (from the net10 data settings app i downloaded) are:
        apn: wap.tracfone
        proxy: att2.tracfone.com
        port: 80
        mmsc: http://mmsc.cingular.com
        mms proxy: att2.tracfone.com
        mms port: 80

these settings allow me to access the internet/data, send MMS, but not receive MMS. I have tried all the other suggested settings and am still unable to receive MMS. This is the only setting that allows me to send them. I’ve had the same phone/sim card and have been on net10 for quite some time, this all started just about 2 weeks ago for some reason unknown to me. previous to this happening, the settings i had originally on my phone were:

        APN: tfdata
        MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
        MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com

For whatever reason, this decided to stop working. The tfdata apn does not allow me to access data now. Not sure why this change occurred.

        • Bob Thompson says:

          Hi Sarah,
Di you buy this phone from Net10?
Try removing both the proxy and mms proxies
          if that doesn’t work
try mms proxy mms3.tracfone.com with the wap.tracfone apn
          Regards
          Bob

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Joe,
Did you put a SIM in this phone or did you dial an activation sequence when you set it up? I think its using , Net10’s Verizon compatible network, or the Net10′s Sprint compatible network

Hey I’m having an issue with my Galaxy Note 3. It’s from At&t and it is NOT unlocked. My Data and my MMS do not work at all with my Net10 service. What apn settings do I need exactly for net10 without confusing myself with straight talk settings ?

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Charrod,
Net10 Wireless and Straight Talk Wireless use the same APN setup information. Net10 Wireless, Straight Talk Wireless, and Tracfone are all owned by the same company. Try following my Nexus 5 guide. Start with the APN setup information from Net10. See the guide to get the link for the APN setup information for your phone number. If that doesn’t work try some of the alternative MMS Proxy and MMSC values listed in the guide.

The guide is for Android 4.4 (KitKat), so your screens and the steps may be a little different. Let me know how it goes.

I’ve talked to Net10, Samsung AND AT&T about this, and they all said it’s not unlocked if it won’t let me change the APN. Anyone?? Any help? Anyone else get this phone and this problem?? I can send and receive calls and data, but not connect to internet. ARRGHH!

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Gwen,
That is of the challenges of trying to buy unlocked phones. Some sellers will sell you locked ones. I did have one reader in the past that was making a mistake trying to set the APN on a Samsung galaxy. Are you trying to edit an existing APN or create a new APN? When your go to the APNs screen, how many apns are in the list? Are you tapping the menu button and respecting new APN?

  36. Anthony says:

    Hi,

Ijust moved from France to the US a month ago and acquired a Net10 (AT&T I believe) SIM card for my unlocked Samsung Galaxy S2 running with Android 4.1.2.

I cannot really say the data and MMS do not work at all, but they are pretty messy, I’d sayI receive about 2 MMS out of 3 (doesnt depend on who sends it, I did the tests), and data sometimes doesnt work at all, meaning that the phone tells me “no problem dude I got 3G” but internet or Android market tell me “no connection available”.

I’ve tried a few different APN but I dont want to mess with the parameters without good advice. Any help ?

    Thanks,

    Anthony

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Antony,
Welcome to the US! So as you know, Net10 uses both the ATT and T-Mobile networks, and which network you are on depends on your SIM card.

      First, your data connection.
Net10 uses three different APNs for data tfdata, wap.tracfone, and att.mvno. In my experience, only one of the three data apn will work for a customer. Your phone will connect to the internet and a network speed indicator regardless if you have the right APN configured on your phone or not. With net10, you need to configure the APN yourself, phones that configure themselves, get it wrong.

Try to get data working first, try all three APNs. your Data APN is usually the same as your MMS APN(if you needed to configure an MMS APN on your phone), so start with that. IF you try all three APNs and none of them work, you have a problem. The problem is either your phone isn’t recognizing the new APN was set or you have a network coverage or compatibility problem. If the problem is with the phone, its usually a matter or reseting the phone or entering the APN information into the existing APN in the settings rather than creating a new one. You maybe having a network coverage problem. Does your phone’s status bar show what network you are connected to? It should say HOME. If it doesn’t say HOME, what does it say? There are some cases where your phone Net10 SIM with a ATT or TMobile (usually T-Mobile) SIM will connect to another network if the ATT or T-Mobile has no or poor service in your area. Usually this is by arrangement by the operators. For example, T-Mo pays ATT to let their customers use the ATT network in areas where there is no T-Mo and vice versa. I have never seen anyone get data working in the case.

Now for MMS. Sometimes people report they have trouble with MMS partially working and that can be fixed by tweaking the settings a little bit.

Try to fix the data issue first, let me know what settings you are using and I can make some recommendations.

Finally, I assume you bought your GS II overseas, what model is it? it may be more compatible with either the ATT to T-Mobile network, and this is a factor to consider when choosing a SIM card. Net 10 and many of the prepaid networks use both networks and you should be able to move your service to a different SIM.

Let me know if you need more help.
      Regards
      Bob

I posted on here yesterday afternoon and today my post is not showing up on this page and I did not receive any type of response. I’m having issues with not being able to receive mms on a Samsung Rugby Smart. Everything else seems to work. I get messages saying that things are there but it always says that the download failed. I don’t have the time to put in all of my apn settings at the moment to let you know what they are. Anything that could help with being able to receive mms messages would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Bob,
I have a Samsung Rugby Smart and am able to use internet, make calls, send and receive texts and send picture messages but I am not able to receive mms messages. I have tried several different values and settings based on what I have found online but have not been able to receive mms messages.
Here are my current settings, which seem to have worked the best so far:
    Name: net10
    APN: tfdata
    Port: 80
    MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
    MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
    MMS port: 80
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 410
    Authentication type: PAP
    APN type: internet,supl,mms

I’ve been trying to get this figured out for the past week and it’s driving me crazy! Do you have any other settings that you suggest? I saw that Ellen was having a similar issue and installed go sms pro. What exactly does that do and is that the best alternative if we cannot get the settings figured out? Thanks in advance!

      Hi Ellen,

Do you know what APN you are using for data?

      • Ellen says:

No. The link is for the other Rugby. This is the Rugby Smart. I can’t get into the apn settings since it is now the default setting after deleting the att&t settings using the ‘apn backup & restore’ program. I have no idea what I’m using now since I’ve input so many different ones.

        • Bob Thompson says:

ok. So you entered some values. You used the apn backup and restore program, deleted ATT. And you can’t get back to to the apn settings. I am not familar with this phone. I the apn backup & restore program something on the phone or a pc/mac program?
          Regards
          Bob

          • Ellen says:

downloaded it from google appsL: APN Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu. It was recommended on one of the sites I went to trying to figure out the correct apn. This was for deleting the apn that was on the phone if there was no way of deleting it myself.

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Elen
            Is this the phone?
            http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Rugby-Smart_id6865

OK. So you had this phone on ATT. The contract is up. You moved it to net10. Your data works. But not MMS.
Did you use the APN Backup and Restore to get data working? or enter them on the phone.

Do your settings look like this?

          • Ellen says:

There is no reply under your last post. Hope you see this. This is the phone. The settings that show on your link is for vodacom, not net10 -which is what I need. The apn vackup & restore was used to delete the at&t apn that was on the phone. I manually put in an apn that was supposedly for net10. I can restore it if necessary.

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Ellen,
I should have been clearer. I know the link is for Vodafone. I wanted to know if that is what the settings look like. I don’t have a Rubgy, I am trying to help you without having a phone in hand.

            Regards
            Bob

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Ellen,
It is a little difficult to help without one of these Galaxy Rugby Smarts in hand.

What we need to do to solve your problem is to figure out how to enter in the all the configuration data needed for data service or internet to work. Entering in all the different combinations of that information is tedious and error prone. It’s not clear to me if your data connection is working or not. The best way to approach this is to figure out which Access Point Name or APN your SIM is using foe data service. Once we know that, we can make prioritize which values to to enter to try and get MMS to work.

Generally speaking smartphones have a settings or preference page where you go and type in all this information. On some smartphone, the manufacturer, the mobile carrier, or both configure their phones to hide some or all of these settings from the user to both make it simpler for the user on their network and harder for the user to move the phone to another network. In that case, users often turn to tricks, hacks, and utility programs such as APN Backup & Restore app that you downloaded from Google Play.

If you want to try this, and can deal with the fact that I am trying to guide you using second hand infomation from Google. Here is what I suggest.

            1. Lets see if you can enter in the APN information on your phone without using a third party utility.
            2. Find the APN that works for data
            3. if we find the APN for data we try for MMS

            Try this
            1. From the home screen, press the MENU button (it’s the first button on the left in the row of physical buttons below the screen) and then select Settings.
            2. Select Wireless and Networks, then select Mobile Networks followed by Access Point Names.
            3. Press the MENU button and select New APN.
            4. Fill out the following fields as indicated here. Leave all other fields untouched, whether they are blank or have some other value already entered.

            Name = att.mvno
            APN = att.mvno
            APN Type = Internet

Press Menu and save. att.mvno should now be in the list. So select it.
            and exit settings
reboot you phone turn off Wi-Fi and try to browse the web.

if this doesn’t work. Repeat the process using tfdata, and wap.tracfone for the name and the APN above.

Let me know if you try it and how it goes.
            Regards
            Bob

          • Ellen says:

            The att.mvno works.
I gave up and installed go sms pro

          • Bob Thompson says:

            Hi Ellen,

    • Bob Thompson says:

      Hi Kim,

    Hi Bob,
I’m looking for help on a iPhone 5, unlocked, using Net10, ios 6.1.4, to get my mms back up and running.
I had it working on on ios 6.1.3 so I updated and knocked out the mms.
I have tried your apn settings per your guide. When I plug in tfdata in the apn box it knocks out all my data no Safari. When I use wap.tracfone it does allow my internet to work.

Obviously I do have a TMobile sim card and have tried dozens of combinations with little luck.

      Hi Jim,
      Thanks for checking out smartphonematter.com.
OK. So it sounds like you issue is that you were hit with one of these carrier updates and now you can’t get MMS working again.
I suggest Going into Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings. Note you will need to reenter your WiFi passwords after you do this.
      Restart the your phone.
Go back and enter in the the settings for wap.tracfone carefully.
      APN wap.tracfone
      MMS
      APN wap.tracfone
      MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
      MMS Proxy 66.209.11.32:80
      MMS Max Message Size 1048576

      Save the values
Restart your phone and test data and mms.

Let me know how it goes.
      Regards,
      Bob

I have an unlocked Nokia Lumia 822. For whatever reason, about 2 weeks ago my MMS and data stopped working completely. I have gone through my APN settings and they are all correct. I have deleted and reset APN settings, rebooted my phone, etc. to no avail.

I would like to know what to do since I have followed every bit of advice and every guide on the site and nothing is working.

Very frustrated about this. What’s the point in paying for service that I can’t use?

      Hi Bernie,
Sorry to hear about your Lumia. That is frustrating. Which Net10 SIM are you using? the AT&T SIM or the T-Mobile SIM?
I am assuming you didn’t exceed your data cap..

      Regards
      Bob
