AT&T Prepaid $45 Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data – Feb 2019

In this article, I am going to take a look at AT&T Prepaid Wireless plans and features for February 2019.

Before getting started I want to point out that this is not a review, just a look the current prepaid plans and features currently offered. I last reviewed AT&T Prepaid back in 2015, see ATT Prepaid Wireless GoPhone Review.

Switching to prepaid wireless can be a confusing experience and you are left to figure out a lot of this information for yourself, I create these articles and videos to explain prepaid wireless to ordinary consumers looking to save some money or who don’t qualify for post paid phone service.

When you sign up for AT&T Prepaid you’ll have the option to buy a phone directly from AT&T or your can Bring your Own Phone as long as it is compatible with the AT&T network and you buy an AT&T SIM kit.

AT&T Prepaid Plans

AT&T Prepaid has five monthly plans. All these plans include unlimited nationwide talk and text. That is calling to and from the United States.

The price of plans ranges from $30 to $85 dollars. Let’s take a look at all the plans and I’ll describe each feature with the first plan that supports it.

$25/month Talk and Text, No Data Plan ($30/month without AutoPay)

The $30 plan includes unlimited nationwide talk and text only. You can make calls to and from the United States. No data is included with this plan.

The plan price drops to $25/mo when you sign up for AutoPay. AutoPay is an automatic payment discount program. Let AT&T automatically charge your plan to your credit card each month and you’ll get a $5 per month discount.

While the plan comes with no data, you can buy add-on data when you need it. The data costs $5 for $250MB. That comes out to $20 per GB which is expensive. AT&T’s add-on data expires 30 days after you add it so if you don’t use it you lose it.

$30/month Talk and Text, 1GB Data Plan ($35/month withoutAutoPay)

The $35 plan comes with unlimited nationwide talk and text. You’ll have unlimited texts to over 100 additional countries. You can use your phone in Mexico and Canada for an additional pay per use charge.

The plan price drops to $30 per month when you sign up for the AutoPay discount.

The plan includes 1 GB of high speed data. After you use up that data, you’ll still have a data connection but the speed is reduced to 128Kbps which is really slow. Good enough to send email or many messaging apps, too slow for watching Netflix, YouTube, or other video service. And it’s likely too slow for Spotify, Apple music, or other music services.

For all of the AT&T Prepaid plans that include a fixed amount of data, any unused data will roll or carry over to the next month before expiring. So if you don’t use it all in the current month, its available to use the next month if you need it. Keep in mind though that you’ll only start to use the data that carried over when you used up all the data from your current month. The unused data expires after being carried over one month.

If you use up all your data for the current month but still need high speed data, you can buy a 1 GB data add-on for $10. This add-on data expires 30 days after purchase.

This plan also offers mobile hotspot. With mobile hotspot, you can share your phone’s cellular data connection with you laptop, tablet, or other Wi-Fi devices so you can connect them to the internet.

With this plan you can watch 1080P HD quality video when using cellular data. You also have the option to use AT&T’s StreamSaver. This lowers video quality from High Definition to Standard definition but you’ll use less data. Your choice.

The $50 plan offers the same features as the previous plan except you’ll get 8GB of high speed data. The price drops to $40 when you sign up for Auto Pay, that’s a $10 per month discount.

The plan adds unlimited talk and text to and from Mexico and Canada. So you’ll be able to make calls and text to both Mexico and Canada from the United States as well as make calls from inside Mexico and Canada.

That’s a $20 discount. Note this is a limited time offer until April 1 2019 and you must sign up for AutoPay by April 11 2019.

This plan includes unlimited data. However at anytime during the month your data speeds may be reduced if AT&T’s network is busy.

While this plan has unlimited data, you will not be able to use mobile hotspot.

With thisĀ  plan, all the video content you watch using cellular data will be reduced to Standard Definition (SD) quality. AT&T automatically enables StreamSaver, and with this plan it on by default and you don’t have the option to turn it off.
