Buying a Samsung Galaxy s9+ to Use With Straight Talk

YouTuber Keaira asks…

I have a S7 Edge Verizon unlocked and I am currently using Straight Talk byop Sim card. I am currently looking to buy a S9 plus Verizon unlocked phone so will it be easier for me to just buy a new sim for the S9 Plus and activate it or should I just go ahead and just switch the sim from the S7 Edge to the S9 Plus? AND I want to sell my s7 edge and i dont want someone to buy the phone and they can’t register it with straight talk because the phone is already registered with them so how will I go with that? Sorry for the long question I’m just trying to make sure I’m understanding everything right.

You can use a Verizon or unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ with Straight Talk’s Verizon towers as long as the phone is eligible or compatible, see Checking If Your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S Is Compatible With Straight Talk’s Verizon Network.

You have at least three options for buying your S9+. You could buy the phone directly from Straight Talk, buy it unlocked from Best Buy or Samsung, or buy a full priced S9+ from Verizon.

Sometimes you can get a good discount if you buy the S9+ directly from Straight Talk. For October 2018, they don’t have any good deals on the phone, but check to see the latest deals. Today, Best Buy has the phone for $740 unlocked. Finally you could buy a full priced Verizon S9+ from some other retailer if they will sell you just the phone.

Once you have the phone and confirm it is compatible, you can activate service on the phone just like you are signing up for Straight Talk. When you have the option to transfer your number put in your current Straight Talk number, and Straight Talk will let you transfer your service. You’ll need to have a new Straight Talk Verizon nano SIM, do not switch the SIM.

After your service is transferred, your old phone will be listed in your account as inactive. If someone else wants to activate it on one of the tracfone brands that use the Verizon network, you’ll need to remove that device from your account. It may also take some time before another person can activate the device with another tracfone brand.

Finally, if you are switching phones it may be a good time to check if another carrier offers a better value for you. If you want to use the Verizon network, check out both Total Wireless and Verizon Wireless prepaid. See my videos on both.

I hope this helps.
