Help Setting up Metro PCS Data and MMS on the BLU Dash Running Android 4.2

I created  this page to help readers set up data, internet, MMS picture messages, and group texts on the BLU Tank 4.5 running Android 4.2 (Jellybean). If your voice service or SMS text messages are not working this page isn’t going to help you. Contact Metro PCS support.

There are many different Android phones on the market and I don’t have this specific phone. I have written setup guides  for iPhones, other Android phones, and even Windows 8 phones so the information here should be enough help you.

With a little effort you should be able to follow the instructions here to get your phone working properly.

To use this guide you should have your Dash ready to go with an active Metro PCS SIM. Your voice service and SMS text messages should be already working.

To get data, Internet, MMS picture messages working you have to setup your APN and MMS in your phones’ Settings.

You need to know the correct values to enter

APN Type: default,mms,supl
MCC: 310
MNC: 260

If you have already tried to set up data and MMS using these values. Leave a comment and I will try to help. These are the most commonly used values.

I do not have a Dash phone to verify this is correct. If you are reading this, please leave a comment and tell me if this is correct or what needs to be changed. There are so many Android phones available on the market today and I am not able to create a guide for every model.

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap More or Mobile Data
  3. Tap Mobile Networks or Access Point Names
  4. Tap Access Point Names
  5. Tap MENU
  6. Tap New APN
  7. Enter a name (like MetroPCS)
  8. Enter values above
  9. Tap MENU
  10. Tap Save
  11. From APN list, tap on the dot to enable the APN Settings for the name you entered.
  12. Restart your phone
  13. Test Data with your browser
  14. Test both sending & receiving an MMS picture message
  15. Test sending & receiving group texts

If the instructions above don’t work for you. Check that you entered the settings correctly. It’s easy to make a mistake.

If you still can’t get it to work, leave a comment.

    Hi there,

My apologies, I actually meant to say I have blu bold studio 7.1, but my service is with Cricket wireless. I am experiencing similar situation of not being able to view text messages with pictures. Please help if you can.

Did you set your APN type? try default, mms, supl

      • Joyce Sayndee | |

Thanks a lot for the rapid response. I have no clue where to go. I made several attempts today by visiting the setting option as per the instructions given for metro PCS, that is after leaving the message, but was unsuccessful.

Metro pcs sims are married to the phone that came with that sim. You can set correct apns on an unlocked phone all you want. Call metro so they can log in the new phones serial number. Then phone will work

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Tim B,
I don’t use metro. This does seem to be the case for some people but not others. I do recommend you call and give them them the IMEI if its not working.

Hi, I’m trying to figure out if a Samsung Mega that was originally set up with metro pcs, is capable of being transferred to straight talk. Straight talk has a conversion kit, and from what I know is that any phone that takes a sim card can be transferred. It’s a non-refundable kit, so I’d rather not waste the $50.

    • Bob Thompson | |

What’s the model number of the phone? The old metro PCS and the new Metro PCS are quite a bit different so it make a difference.

  4. Lavina | |

will this work for the Blu Stuido 5.0 ll phone it’s unlocked with At&t?

    • Bob Thompson | |

I’m not sure if you are saying your are currently an AT&T customer and want to move your unlocked Blu to Metro PCS or if you want to use these APN settings for a BLU phone you want to use with AT&T? Your BLU phone should work with Metro PCS and the APN setting would work. If you are trying to use the phone with AT&R, you’d need the APN settings for AT&T. But I’d think the phone would set them up automatically.

will this work on the Blu Stuido 5.0 ll Phone I can not send or receive pictures I in a text I have at&t

    • Bob Thompson | |

If your data is working with AT&T. Try adding the APN type default, wap, mms to your APN settings. That might help.

It’s because the BLU Studio X phones are not compatible with MetroPCS. It’s also because MetroPCS agents don’t want to help, are not knowledgeable about BLU phones, nor do they want to inform themselves.
I went to another MetroPCS store and the young man told me “I don’t think your phone works with MetroPCS. I know it’s not compatible, and my friends and I think it(your phone) sucks”. I retorted, “Before telling me your opinions, get your facts straight. Look up BLU products and their compatibilities with MetroPCS, T-Mobile, At&T, etc…become knowledgeable before opening your mouth. MetroPCS and T-Mobile service “sucks” and their advertising is false…You do not reach nationwide. I know from experience. When it says “No Service”, it means no signal,no calling customer service, and NO emergency calls can be made!” I
    am fed up with MetroPCS/T-Mobile.

    • Bob Thompson | |

Your BLU phone is compatible with T-Mobile and therefore MetroPCS. It may however been the case the your phone doesn’t support all the radio frequencies used by the Metro network in all areas for the country. This would lead to the phone working in some areas and no service or limited service. That said, I have been hearing from iPhone 6s owners about having problems with MetroPCS and metro’s indifference to prepaid customers. BLU sells value priced phones. Not everyone wants to spend hundreds more on an iPhone. I do generally recommend BLU phones but tell people to look for the models that support 4G LTE if they re buying a data plan.

T-Mobile is considered to be the 4th largest network in the US. Behind AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. I have never been into a Metro PCS store. In every T-Mobile store I have been in, the have met helpful and polite employees, even when signing up for prepaid.

So that said, what do you want to do? are you willing to switch to a company that uses the AT&T network?

I have done all you stated. MetroPCS claims it is my Blu Studio X phone. They also say Blu phones are no good, even if compatible with T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Simple, Straight Talk,AT&T. I have done factory reset, soft reset, new apns.
Blu sent me the APN settings to fix MetroPCS. I still can’t send/receive MMS messages.

    • Bob Thompson | |

Well I don’t use MetroPCS nor a Studio X. But alot of people are having problems with MMS with MetroPCS. iPhone 6s users are having problems too.
What settings did they send you? can you share. Do you want to email me some screenshots of your APN settings to look at? Did you try doing a Reset To Default on THE APNS page?

I’m with metro pics I have a note problem is I can get on wife but I can’t use my intenet I don’t understand this at all…can you please help me out

    • Bob Thompson | |

I don’t have a Note 2. Can you follow the numbered steps in the article. You want to go into settings and find the APN page. Unfortunately, the steps on Samsung phones may be a little different.

  9. Chole | |

Thank you but Yes i already tried the settings you provided with no luck.

  12. Melvin | |

The instructions didn’t work for trying to use my metropcs sim card in my att blu studio phone

    • Bob Thompson | |

      what did not work?

  13. Ashley | |

I have tried all of this and data is still not working, half the time shows I have no SIM inserted then signal comes and goes. The reps at the store couldn’t even get it working and sucks bcuz they don’t refund the money. Even tho I have only had the service for ten minutes.. blu phones so frustrating..

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Ashley,
Do you know for a fact that the problem is the BLU phone and not MetroPCS. Do you know for a fact that MetroPCS has coverage in your area. You can check this out by borrowing an ATT SIM from a friend and see if it works in your phone and trying your SIM in someone else’s phone.

if you think the phone is defective, call BLU support. They should replace the phone for you.
