Help Setting up Straight Talk Data and MMS on the BLU Studio 5s Running Android 4.1.2

This page explains how to set up your Straight Talk Wireless data, internet, MMS picture messages, and group texts on your BLU Studio 5s using Android 4.1.2 If you are unable to browse the web without wi-fi, send and receive MMS picture messages and group texts this page may help.

This page will show you how set your Straight Talk Wireless APN settings on your phone. Your data, MMS picture messages, and group texts won’t work unless you have set this up correctly. This page is only for people using a Straight Talk Wireless SIM with Straight Talk’s AT&T-compatible network or Straight Talk’s T-Mobile compatible SIM.

If you were searching for one of the following APN Settings or values, this page might just be what you are looking for. Don’t worry if you have any idea what these mean.

APN tfdata, att.mvno, wap.tracfone
MMS APN tfdata, att.mvno, wap.tracfone
MMS Proxy 66.209.11.33, mms3.tracfone.com, mms.tracfone.com, mms3.tracfone.com
MMSC http://mms-tf.net, http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Port
APN Type
MNC 410
MCC 310
APN Type default, mms, wap, supl

This page won’t help if your Studio 5S is using Straight Talk’s Verizon-compatible or Straight Talk’s Sprint compatible network. This page will also not help if you are unable to place and receive phone calls or send and receive SMS text messages. Contact Straight Talk Wireless support if voice service or SMS text message are not working.

Smartphonematters has a number of very detailed guides that explain how to set up Straight Talk APNs for iPhones, Android, and Windows phones we use. See our APN Settings Guides. We created this help page, and our other help pages for phones we don’t have, but readers have asked for help with, see our APN Settings Help if you are are looking for help with a different phone.

I just got the Blu studio phone and I am with Straight Talk. I set up everything to get the phone working with them. I am confused about the data connection. I have an AT&T compatible sim. An AT&T setting for the APN is already on the phone and that one connects to the internet even though I am not with them. I tried setting up one with all of Straight Talk’s info with no such luck. I even edited AT&T’s version. When I turn on the data it still says the name is AT&T no matter what I do it will still say it. Is it okay to use AT&T’s APN or not?

      • Alexa | |

I am a first time user with Straight Talk. Everything is new. The AT&T APN:phone APN Type: default, mms, supl MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net/ MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net MMS port:80 MCC:310 MNC:410. When I tried creating a new APN using all the examples on this site and Straight Talks it still didn’t work. The AT&T APN works perfectly without editing it. When I did edit the AT&T APN it would still say I was connected through AT&T.

I have read through all the comments on this page and am having a little different problem. I am receiving all MMS text just fine. I can send texts to about 1/4 of my contacts with no problems, but the other 3/4 don’t receive anything. They can text me with no problems, I get their texts. I can reply to them, it says it is sent, but they never receive anything. I have my APN settings set per the instructions on this page. Like I said MMS is working fine, just having problems with regular texts. I have a Blu 5.0 S II with Straight Talk wireless on AT&T network.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Rachel,
Your APN settings are for data and MMS picture messages / group texts. If you are having a problem with SMS text messages changing your APN settings isn’t going to help. I’d back up my phone and do a factory reset. Then I’d test SMS with my friends before restoring the backup. If this doesn’t work, you’ll have to contact Straight Talk.

Are you a new Straight Talk customer, did you recently transfer your number to the ST?

      Regards
      Bob

Using BLU studio 5.0 ver 2 with straight talk sim.

I was unable to get MMS to work because I never checked off the correct APN types.

If you do not select MMS and WAP under APN type, it won’t work!!

After I checked MMS WAP SUPL, everything works flawlessly now.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Darryl,
      Thanks for posting.
Its usually mms, default, supl for the tmobile sim and mms, default, wap for the att one.

(straight talk att sim) I called straight talk because I had data set up ( I could get online) but couldn’t send text messages. Here on the text screen I had to click the 3 dot button and bring up a menu then click settings. Then click sms service center and enter the number +13123149810 then click ok. After that I was able to send text messages. I had to change my APN settings after to send and receive photos as the ones straight talk told me to use doesn’t work for photos. but I found out these settings worked for me. name straight talk , APN tfdata , MMSC I set to http://mmsc.cingular.com, MMS proxy I set to wireless.cingular.com, MMS port I set to 80 then I saved and it worked.

    • Jason | |

      I forgot to say I have a blu studio 5.5 D610a

      • Jason | |

Bob It told me to use

        APN tfdata
        MMSC http://mms-tf.net
        MMS PROXY mms3.tracfone.com
        MMS PORT 80
        MMS_APN tfdata

But they wouldn’t let me send or receive photos over text messages.

But the settings I am currently using will.

        APN tfdata
        MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
        MMS proxy wireless.cingular.com
        MMS port 80

        • Shamar | |

          Jason …

I am currently having the same problem that you were having… my question is if I change my APN settings to

          APN tfdata
          MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
          MMS proxy wireless.cingular.com
          MMS port 80

Will I still be able to send and receive regular text messages and browse the web?

          • Shamar | |

            I forgot to say I have a BLU Studio 5.5s …

          • Bob Thompson | |

            Hi Shamar,
The APN and proxy settings are only for data, MMS picture messages, and group texts. You can try any APN settings and see if these work. If not, change them back.

        • Seth Freedman | |

I was hving the same issues with my blu 5.5 Changed my settings to the cingular one you described and it worked thank you so much.

          • Seth Freedman | |

I take it back it didnt work.

          • Bob Thompson | |

            Hi Seth,
Start by looking up your APN settings on the Straight Talk website. Using the link in the help page. Enter those values in and test MMS. If it doesn’t work, add the APN type.

            Regards

Follow the instructions and look up your APN settings on the Straight Talk web site. Remove all the APNs in settings, create a new one and enter the settings again. Match the settings from the web site to the settings in the instructions. Enter the settings without the APN type. If it doesn’t work, enter the APN type and try again.

  14. Chelsea | |

Hi, I have the Blu Studio 5.0, and I followed the directions given on this page and the straight talk page to set up my data. Everything works fine, except I cannot receive picture messages (mms). I am able to send them. But I noticed in the Edit Access Point Screen, there is NOT a MMS_APN. Could this be why I am not able to receive mms? Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Chelsea,
there is no MMS APN in the android setting that is why I don’t have it listed in the settings you need to enter in your phone.

If you recently signed up for Straight Talk and transferred your phone number it may take a few days before you can receive MMS picture messages. I had the same issue. I set up three Straight Talk accounts. MMS worked fine for the two with new phone numbers. I could not receive MMS for the third, the one I transferred a number to. I tried the SIM in two different phone and it did not work. After a few days I decided to see if I could try to fix it, only to find it working.

This is a common problem. You can also try setting your APN type to default, mms, wap or default, mms, supl. Some readers have had luck by trying different MMSC and MMS proxy values. Read both the following articles and the comments to see what has worked for others.

  15. Q | |

I have the BLU Studio 5 S II with the Straight Talk AT&T SIM, and was having the same problem as everyone else. Here is what I did to fix my issue with the MMS, hope this helps.

Basically, I used the same APN settings that the StraightTalk website provides, however, instead of creating a new APN, I edited the AT&T APN that was already in place.

I tried doing that because I read that you’re supposed to delete all other APNs, but for some reason, on the BLU Studio 5.0 S II model anyway, running Android 2.2, you can’t delete the AT&T APN, only the ones that you create.

So I deleted the Straight_Talk APN I created, and Edited the AT&T APN with the same settings, rebooted, and I was then able to get picture and group MMS text messages.

    Hope this helps!

    Bob,

    My phone says No Service.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Sylvester,
I would call or contact Straight Talk to confirm that your account / SIM is active. If not, they need to help fix the problem. If they say it’s active, you may be living in an area with no tmobile network coverage. Try borrowing an ATT SIM from a friend and see if you can make calls with it in your phone. You’ll at least know the phone is working.
      Regards
      Bob

i read all the pages, my tmobile straight talk sim still is not working. I dont get a signal or anything.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Terry,
Does your phone show No SIM or No Service? Do you know if the t-mobile network has coverage where you live, work, or are trying to use your phone? if your phone doesn’t have signal, setting the APN won’t help. Are you able to make phone calls?
      Regards

I just got the Blue 5.0 studio phone, Id love to use it if I could. I need a sim card, I am currently with straight talk and the phone I have now doesn’t have a sim card. I went to Walmart to have them figure out what I needed but they ordered for me online the Network access code which is the wrong thing. I called straight talk and was on the phone for over an hour and they said I need to figure out which sim card I need before I purchase it. Its been a week and this phone is in the box. 🙁 Can someone help tell me where I can get a sim card that will work so I can transfer my service to the phone. Thank You

        • Bob Thompson | |

          Hi Calista,
Straight Talk does not own their own cellular network. The lease airtime in bulk and resell it to their customers. When you sign up for Straight Talk, your phone will be placed on the Verizon, Sprint, ATT or TMobile network depending on what type of phone you have and what works well in your area.

If your current Straight Talk phone doesn’t have a SIM, its using the Sprint or Verizon network. Your new BLU phone won’t work on the Verizon or Sprint network. You will need to choose between a Straight Talk SIM for the ATT or TMobile networks. Your BLU phone will work with either, but you should pick att / tmobile based on which network works best where you use your phone. Check ATT and TMobile coverage maps. Ask your friends what they use. If you pick one, and it doesn’t work well you can always get the SIM for the other and transfer your service.

If you live in an area where only Verizon works well, then this phone is not the best choice.

You can buy a BYOP SIM package from Walmart that has both SIMs but also comes with a 45 dollar monnthy service pin. See Straight Talk Wireless Bring Your Own Phone Activation Kit SIMS Packaged Incorrectly. You can also order a SIM directly from straight talk here.

          http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/shop/sims/

Make sure to order the correct sized SIM. I looked online, looks like the studio uses a standard size SIM, not a micro SIM.

Let me know if you still have questions.
          Regards
          Bob

    Hi Bob,

I’m having trouble successfully accepting call waiting. When I click over I can’t hear my caller and they can’t hear me. When I attempt to switch back to my previous caller I’m disconnected.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Jay,
I am not sure. I assume call waiting is enabled in the settings. Try turning it off and on again.I did a little research, and did not find a specific issue. You can also try BLU support which I am told is pretty good.

      Regards

  23. miguel | |

Will this work for me if I’m in T-Mobile? What is straight talk?

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Miguel,
Straight Talk is a different wireless company. The steps to set up the APN are the same, but the values you need to enter are different. Your BLU phone may also have automatically added the APN settings. Follow the steps to go the the APNs page in settings. Do you see one or more APN’s listed?
      Regards
      Bob

Hi I just got my blu studio 5.0 ii but for some reason it doesnt read my metro pcs sim card ? Is the phone defective or is it iust not compatible to metro ?

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Jason,
It should work. Do you get an error message?

      1. Make sure your SIM is correctly seated
      2. Try resetting the device in the settings
      3. Try borrowing a sim from a friend and see if the phone works with ATT, TMobile or whatever SIM you can borrow.

    • Leah | |

Hi Jason. You have to call metropcs and have them port your Sim to your blues IEM number (under the battery.)

      • Bob Thompson | |

        Hi Leah,
        Thanks for sharing that.
        Regards
        Bob

      • Jason Lopez | |

Hi thanks for commenting , so I just have to call them and tell them what again ?

    • Leah | |

Tell them you just bought a new factory unlocked phone and that. You want to use your current sim card. They will ask for the new phone iem number (which is under the battery) and they will do it all over the phone. Took me 5 minutes and my studio 5.0II works great!

      Hi Maria,
if your APN is tfdata, try setting your APN type to default, internet, wap
if your APN is att.mvno, try setting your APN type to default, internet, supl

If you recently signed up for Straight Talk and transferred your phone number it may take a few days before you can receive MMS picture messages. I had the same issue. I set up three Straight Talk accounts. MMS worked fine for the two with new phone numbers. I could not receive MMS for the third, the one I transferred a number to. I tried the SIM in two different phone and it did not work. After a few days I decided to see if I could try to fix it, only to find it working.

This is a common problem. Some readers have had luck by trying different MMSC and MMS proxy values. Read both the following articles and the comments to see what has worked for others.

          2. delete any other APN’s from your phone
          3. try setting your APN type to default, internet, mms

          • L Johnson | |

I have check my settings several times and even verified them through Straight Talk. I assume when you said set my apn to internet that’s the WAP setting, right? I currently have it set to default, mms, and WAP, and still no success after 4 days.

          • Bob Thompson | |

            L Johnson
You can mail me a couple screenshots of your APN settings and I will look at them if you want. Press and hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time to take a screenshot. You’ll need two to get all the settings. The screenshots will be in the gallery. You can. Email to bob at the name of this website.
            Regards
            Bob

            Hi L Johnson
Thank you for the email. For some reason, my replies failed, so I figured I’d try here.

I just wanted to give an update to others who are still having problems with their MMS on the Blu Studio 5.0. I originally set my phone to the tfdata APN settings. After 6 days I was still unable to receive and send picture messaging. So I googled and found info on the old At&t APN settings and these immediately worked. However, the next day I contacted Straight Talk because my internet was extremely slow. They advised me my APN settings were wrong. So I informed them that these were the only settings working for my mms. Immediately after I hung up the phone with Straight Talk the old At&t APN suddenly stop working. I then had to reset my APN back to the tfdata settings. In short, for those who are still having problems, try waiting at least a week then see if it works.

Your provided settings for ATT worked for my blu life on NEt 10, including what you stated later in the comments to change the APN type to default, mms, wap. I’m so impressed, my husband and I were about to go crazy!

I have the blu studio 5.0 on straight talk with a ln att sim card and this worked with sending picture messages and the internet but I still cant receive them?? Any suggestions on what I could do! Thank you.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Lottie,
If you just signed up for Straight Talk and you transferred your phone number, it might take a few days to receive MMS. I recently set up three straight talk accounts. I could receive MMS immediately for the two accounts with new phone numbers. It took several days to start receiving MMS for the account with the transferred phone number. when I setup up the account, I tried the SIM in two different phones and could not receive MMS. I gave up and decided to look at it again a few days later, only to find it had started working.

You’ll still need to make sure you have entered your APN settings into your phone correctly. You can also try entering an APN type of default, internet, wap. Some people still have to adjust their APN settings to get it to work. Read these two articles AND the comments to see the different MMSC and MMS Proxy settings that have worked for others.

All info is put in correct but I still can’t receive or send MMS messages. Please help me!

  48. Shalatha | |

I have a Blu Life One with a Straight Talk plan. I have tried all 3 of the APNs you listed and only the tfdata one works. However, I’m still unable to setup voicemail and send MMS. Can you help?

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Shalatha,
I am not sure what the issue is with voice mail.
If you can’t send MMS, double check your values. Try setting your APN type to default, mms, wap. Test both sending and receiving MMS.
Let me know how that goes.
      Regards
      Bob

hi, I am one walmarts family mobile plan that runs through t-mobile and have the blu 5.0 phone. I am able to get on the internet and send photos through text just fine but the group messaging is not what I would like. When I send a group message and get responses back the responses only go to the person who responded not the whole group. Or in other words I want the responses to stay in the group thread and not have a million bubbles with everyones response. Does the settings you posted above help with this problem or is this a separate issue?

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Jennifer,
These APN settings for Straight Talk, not Family Mobile. But I dont think your APN settings are the problem. Look in the settings for your messaging app. See if you have an option for Group Messaging. Is it turned on? I don’t have this specific phone. If you are not sure, you can send me a screenshot of the settings and I can take a look at it
      Regards
      Bob
