I have a moto G (2nd Generation)
What carrier was it from AT&T or Verizon?
I recently purchased an unlocked Moto X (XT1060). I put my SIM card in and I can make and receive calls and SMS messages, but I can’t send/receive MMS messages or access my data. I have Straight Talk, and I’ve spent hours on the phone with them trying to fix this, but they say it’s a problem with my phone. I’ve tried several different APN settings, but nothing seems to work. My phone is running Android version 4.4.4. Please let me know how I can fix this!

Hi Arin,
I have heard this same issue serveral times from Moto X users recently. Did you use the link in the article to look up your APN on the Straight Talk web site? Have you tried setting your APN type? default,mms,wap for the att sim. You can also try going to the APN settings page, doing a reset to default, and then edit and delete any APNs on that page. Once that is done you can create a new APN at this point and enter your APN settings.

I’ve tried all of the apn settings I’ve found (via straight talk’s website and many other websites). I don’t know what else I can try. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Finally got my phone fixed by breaking down and buying a new SIM card. Thanks for your help.

I’ve gone through the procedure, but it won’t save. I’ve tried to edit, what the default is, it will put everything I need except the port 80. I tried removing the sim and entering the data then restarting with the sim back in. Am I going to have to do a factory reset?
Hi Bruce,
Delete all the APNs on the phone. Do a reset to defaults from the APN screen. Delete any APNs that reappear. Create a new APN. Enter your values. If it doesn’t save, you might have missed a value. Let me know how it goes. Don’t worry about a factory reset yet.

I don’t think I ever heard if Bruce got it working. Sometimes it won’t save an APN if value is missing. Try doing a reset to defaults and editing one of the existing APNs.
Let me know how it goes. I’ll check my nexus 5 later today.

1You cannot use kit kat android os. Revert to ice cream sandwich or jelly bean.2 It will still say unsupported sim but press OK and it will work anyway. if not,3 If you see the red cross symbol in place of the H+ signal in blue then you have not completed the edit or the os is to advanced. Either revert or gain root and use an experimental 4 you have to save the initial nv edit to the phone and computer,if this is not a default occuance in your case then the 01 will still be there. 5also don’t allow system to installed os updates or you will lose service and start over. So write these things down(apns ect) so it will be handy in case of accidental is update. Don’t panic if it downloads them(and it WILL auto download) just font install. Hope this helps, this will work on xda developers free os as well as other root os.you don’t need nv edit on them.
I switched from Verizon a few weeks ago to Straight Talk AT&T on a Verizon (hence inherently unlocked) MotoX. Calls are ok, reception isn’t the best comparatively but voice is working ok and data is ok. Texting however has about a 25-50% failure rate which is no good for me.
Here are my apn settings:

The differences I see follow:
1. The APN name is given as STRAIGHT_TALK in your image but you enter tfdata in the variables field. Mine was given as Straight Talk. Does this matter?
2. I have nothing entered for the APN Type, while you have APN Type: default, mms, wap . Should I alter this?
3. Should I try some of the other APNs to see if they are more successful with my phone or does anyone have experience with the MotoX in Virginia with working settings for text?
I’ve emailed Straight Talk customer service. At the moment, the problem is significant enough that I will have to switch providers if no resolution can be found.

Your APN settings are for data, MMS picture messages and group text messages. If your sms text messaging isn’t working, changing the APN settings isn’t going to help.
1. The Name field is just the name of the APN settings displayed on the phone. It doesn’t matter what name you use.
2. Some phones work without adding the APN type, others don’t work until you add it. But again that is for MMS, so if picture messages and MMS are the issue then by all means add it.
3. I don’t think other APN settings will help.
Are you sure your Verizon account has been turned off? I’d remove my SIM, restart the phone and make sure it doesn’t connect to the Verizon network. If it doesn’t insert your SIM and test text messages again. If I still had a problem, I’d back up and do a factory reset on my phone. You’ll eliminate the phone as the problem.
My advice is to not mention to ST tech support that this is Verizon Moto X. They get confused when customers have dual mode phones and often tell you the phone isn’t supported.
It seems that I have had more comments about problems with regular text messages lately.

Just Google xt926 unlock radiocomm nv edit and the domain will be something to do with xda developers. Also there will be YouTube video of how to.
I meant to thank you but failed earlier. One thing to keep in mind is APN values as a set can be split up and used in part with parts of other value sets. Try changing one value with all known values for that slot and interconnected slots. As a solution to partial or single failure issues
I agree that those values SHOULD NOT change signal, but if its striped It MAY be a zebra. Code sneaks into other code sometimes. I fixed MMS 20 mins after I posted, I had to use tfdata APN + numeric string instead of name= 66.209.11.33

I still don’t think the low level code for the radio has anything to do with the tcp/ip port that mms uses. They simply are unrelated. It’s not that big of a deal to me it’s just that since I moderate the comments it make it a rule to point out anything I don’t believe is true so the rest of the readers can make an informed choice. It’s caused me problems in the past.
I think it was pretty cool that you were able to go over to xda and update your phone. Most of my readers are not technical, and I haven’t tried to position the site to help people of all levels.

I unlocked a Verizon branded Motorola Razr HD (xt926)NO ROOT. jellybean 4.1.2. using radiocomm nv edit (thanks to xda again for the info and links). straight talk with the AT&T(included) 4g/lte sim and and have used the, tfdata apn with a mod or 2. successfully ( in spite of all the THAT WONT WORK, and AGAINST OUR POLICY)works data text and voice as well as wifi. have a small issue on out calls that I have to hit speakerphone and speakerphone again to unmute mic so I can be heard by other party. and BIG ISSUE not outgoing or incoming mms. I have actually gained signal stability by using mms port=8080 but still no mmssent or received,apn type=default,supl,mms
also I gain h+ service by APN protocol=IPv4/IPv6 HELP? please

Wow! that is a lot of phone hacking! Most smartphonematters readers don’t delve so deeply into Android modifications.
I do want to mention that changing your MMS port to 8080 is not related in any way to the radio signal your phone gets. Nor would adjusting your APN protocol change the radio network you are connecting to to HSPA+, the H+. I believe you that you saw an improvement, but that could simply be related to how long your phone was turn on for.
Now, as for the issue with MMS. It can take some effort to get it working. You may need to try several MMSC and MMS proxy values to find a working combination.

Thanks I read about it.. I was wondering has anyone successfully set this up on Tracfone? Tracfone also has the BYOB and if I put the ime and unlocked online it says phone is eligible. I get quite the discount on Tracfone and if I could get triple minutes on it, would be a fantastic deal for me over straight talk.

If you entered the IMEI or MEID of your Verizon phone into the tracfone web site, and its eligible then it should work. I haven’t tried this myself and I am not familiar with all the tracfone plans, but I thought this unlimited talk and text + 180mb of data a month could be a great deal for some people.

So I bought a straight talk sim, activated it on the $45 a month plan Did the Radiocom edit and it’s not recognizing the sim. Used the same apn settings as the 2 users above me to test. Keeps saying unsupported sim msg. Any suggestions?
Hi, I’ve tried multiple settings for My Samsung Galaxy S3 sgh-i747 I can connect to the internet but I can’t send or recieve mms. I’ve tried all kinds of settings and nothing seems to fix my issue.
