    Bob,
I bought if off ebay from a 100% ebayer, so I thought it was an AT&T phone. I already ordered the SIM from Straight Talk.
I didn’t know about the codes. I’ll try it, and if it doesn’t work, I’ll either open a claim, or sell it. Only I’ll advertise it correctly, that it is European, and not an AT&T phone. I wanted the Straight Talk AT&T, because AT&T coverage is better where I live. I also heard that AT&T lets you use more features, plus I just wanted one.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Lance,
It may be OK. Are you willing to share the link to the phone on eBay?
      Regards
      Bob

      • Lance | |

I can’t find the pre-purchase link. So I can’t get to it without going through my ebay account.

I won’t take the chance on compromising my account on here, sorry.

It has the same settings as the link you posted, and it cost me $547 plus shipping if that helps.

        • Bob Thompson | |

          Hi Lance,
I think I found it. From April 26th? Looks like the eBay description might have the model numbers wrong.
Let me know what model you end up getting
          Regards
          Bob

    Bob,
I’m buying a Galaxy S5 AT&T SM G900F. Can I use these AT&T APN settings, or are there different ones that I’ll need?

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Lance,
I looked here http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s5-6033.php and it says the G900F is a European version of the S5, not the ATT model. It looks like it would be compatible with ATT and TMobile’s LTE network so I think it will work with both Straight Talk’s ATT and TMobile network SIMS provided the phone isn’t locked.

I see by your previous comments that you were using the Straight Talk T-Mobile SIM, if so use the same settings.
If you want to use the Straight Talk’s ATT network, you’ll need to transfer your service to a new SIM. Once you have the SIM, its easy you do if from their website and it should go through.

May I ask where your ordered the phone from? Do you have a link to a website?
      Regards
      Bob

I was very frustrated after trying seemingly all APN settings I could find online, as I was still unable to receive MMS messages. I had my number ported from Verizon on a Thursday, and when I woke up on Tuesday morning my phone magically allowed me to receive the MMS messages.

Bob – I appreciate the information and conversations you facilitate on this website. It is a great service to those of us struggling to find answers.

What is mms apn? Where does it go? Have s3

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Michael,
The article shows you on page 2 what to enter into your phone. It’s in the blue/gray boxes. You don’t need to enter the MMS APN.

    Bob,
    I got it to work.
I read somewhere, that an update can cause it to stop working. However, if you take out the battery, and sim, and then just put them back in and restart your phone, it will work.
I tried that, using the wap tracfone settings, and it started immediately downloading all of my picture messages.
    I appreciate your help.
It is very kind of you to help out strangers.
The weird setting that I was referring to was some extra mms only setting, I can’t remember exactly what it was.

    Bob,
Mine is a T-Mobile Galaxy S3, if I put in the 410 it deletes the whole thing. If I leave the 260(that automatically pops in there)in it doesn’t delete, but I can’t get the picture texts. I can get regular texts using any of the APN settings, just no picture. I could at one time, I had a weird setting in there, that was just for mms, but I can’t find it. Any ideas? By the way, I agree with the guy who said you are a saint for helping people like this.
    Thanks.
    Lance

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Lance,
OK, just to make sure i understand
you are using Straight Talk’s TMobile SIM
you are using the wap.tracfone APN

How long have you been using Straight Talk. Was their a reason it stopped working.
What do you mean by a weird setting
      Regards
      Bob

    Bob,
After reading through every comment on this thread, I have come to a couple conclusions.
    1. It doesn’t seem that there are any other people experiencing quite the same issues with the same setup that I’m currently attempting to troubleshoot.
    2. Also, and much more importantly…. You sir, deserve a god damn trophy…..an award….some sort of mention to recognize your willing contribution to the public with absolutely no hope of reciprocity. As I read through some of the comments….I’M actually becoming irritated and I don’t have any obligation to the issue…..person after person after person AFTER PERSON…. “my mms on my s3 wont work, help!!” Like your the damn phone fairy with your mms magic wand……

So, that being said, my hat is off to you Bob. Watching your seemingly infinite patience remain unwavering against a sea of people asking you to help them with their issues without telling you what phone and network your helping them with….helps restore what little faith in humanity I have left.

I’ll be trying your solutions with my issue and will post my results as soon as I can, hopefully I can lend a hand, thanks for your help.

    Devoirs,
    Tod Jr.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Todd Jr,
I updated the instructions on this page today, make sure to use the latest if you haven’t already fixed your phone.

Please let me know if I can help.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank you for your kind and thoughtful comment. I set up this website to share what I learned and help people with prepaid wireless. I get my share of short comments and occasionally demands and even angry comments. I choose to reflect on some of the truly nice and appreciative people who comment, like you. Many people even come back and tell me when, if, and how they resolved their issue, even if I was unable to help them. Some people even tell me the how fixing the problem has impacted their life. Being able to communicate in long distance relationships, share baby and family pictures, and keep up with school activities.

Again, please let me know if I can help.
      Regards
      Bob

I used these apns and tried many others I have a galaxy s3 and I cannot get pics send pics or group messages if trien to go on browser it takes a very very long time to load anything got any more ideas

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Terry,
I have a few questions for you.

      1. If your data is slow, you may only be geting a 2G or Edge connection. Look in your status bar, do you see a 2G or E in your status bar?
      2. I just updated this page, follow the instructions on the page and look up your APN settings on the Straight Talk web site. What are they?
      3. what model Galaxy S3 are you using? Did you buy it from Straight Talk or bring in from another wireless company?
      4. Are you using a Straight Talk SIM? Which one. See Straight Talk Wireless Bring Your Own Phone Activation Kit SIMS Packaged Incorrectly

      Let me know,
      Regards

I can send text and phone calls but i cant receive them?? help ha

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi,
If you cant receive phone calls your number transfer might not be complete. Did you just transfer your number?
      Regards,
      Bob

      • Jordan H | |

I did. So its just a matter of waiting for everything to fully transfer? Because my other phone still works fully.

        • Bob Thompson | |

          Hi Jordan,
what is supposed to happen is that as soon as the transfer goes through, your old phone / account will no longer work and your account is closed. If you have been waiting a long time, you might want to do an online chat with Straight Talk to make sure the transfer is in process. It can take a while to complete, but if there is problem and it didn’t go through you’ll end up waiting. Worse, if there was a problem on the Straight Talk side, they may tell you they have to send you another SIM for the transfer to go through. I had two transfers fail, and then had to go through the transfer with then on the phone. Once I did that, the transfer went through immediately.

If you decide to call tech support, be prepared to be on the phone for a while. It takes a while.

The bright side is once you get it all working, its half the price of ATT.
          Regards
          Bob

          • Jordan H | |

Text and calling work fine now but i still cant send or receive picture messages and i followed all the steps above for my T-Mobile Galaxy s3

I want to thank you for all this wonderful information. I have a Family Mobile phone that I supposedly had unlocked and have been on Straight Talk since last summer but the phone just did not work right for several things but mostly internet and messages, date and mms messages. It is a Galaxy S3. With the information I have learned from these postings I purchased an ATT compatible sim card to replace my T mobile compatible sim. I was able to get it all set up and finally unlock my phone with the original unlock code from last summer that would never work before. With your instructions on APN settings my phone is working fantastically. I am really enjoying it. Thank you for very muchl

      Hi Sarah,
      Did you follow the instructions?
Is your data working? Voice? SMS?

  15. Kenny | |

I bought an AT&T Galaxy S3, used it for the BYOP program and it will not receive MMS Pictures! It will send them though. My settings are exactly like yours. Any advice?

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Kenny,
If you just signed up for Straight Talk and transfered your phone number it might take a few days to be able to receive MMS. I set up two Straight talk phones in the last month. One with a new number, MMS worked in both directions immediately. The other with a transferred number. I tried the SIM in both an iPhone and a Nexus 5. I could send but not receive. It started working several days later. Or at least that is when I tried it again.

you can also try fiddling with some of the APN settings. Try setting your APN type to default, internet, wap. You can try different combinations of MMSC and MMS proxy values. you can read the long and painful stories in their articles and in the comments there too.

I just bought the phone new with a BYOP package. I’ll mess around with it a bit more. I may just have to wait a few days.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, model sgh-i747, unlocked, at&t and ICS 4.1. This worked fine for my phone. Remember you must tick the dot next to the new APN to make it active and I would also remove the old one.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi CC,
Let me clarify, Hangouts is the default messaging app on the Nexus 5. Follow the set up instructions but test MMS picture messages and group texts with whatever the default app on your phone.

What about those of us who use the S3 on Straight Talk via Verizon towers

  20. Jason | |

    Richard,

I had the same issue with my gs3 on straight talk. I’m not running kitkat but regardless of the settings I put in, I tried them all, I could not receive mms messages. I had read from several posts on different sites that once you started your next month’s service card the mms issue resolved itself. I forfeited a few days on my service plan and added another one because I was growing impatient. Low and behold, mms immediately started working! Good luck! Seems like an issue straight talk could easily resolve if they wanted to….instead of repeatedly telling people, “the chances of mms working with the BYOP program are 50/50”.

  21. Richard | |

    Thanks for your guide!

I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII, SGH-i747 (AT&T), using a Straight Talk LTE SIM over AT&T.
I have upgraded to Kit Kat (Android v4.3).

    Voice phone works fine.
    Plain texting works fine.
I have LTE data (Speedtest shows, for example 13Mb down & 9Mb up, web page loading is snappy)
I am not able to successfully send MMC texts (text plus one image attachment, 1.6MB large). The phone indicates “sending” (busy cursor spinning) for over 30 minutes. The recipient reports not receiving the text.

I already had my APN set up very similar to yours. The only difference is that for MMS Proxy I had 66.209.11.33. I changed it to mms3.tracfone.com and restated my phone, but that did not help.

    Other ideas?

    • Richard | |

Also – the SGH-i747 is unlocked.

      • Richard | |

Also – the SGH-i747 is “stock” (not rooted).

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Richard,
You may need to try several combinations of MMS Proxy and MMSC values.
See the Nexus 5 gulde for additional settings.
How to Set up Straight Talk Wireless Data and MMS on Your Nexus 5 Running Android 4.4

You can try 66.209.11.32 for the proxy, and setting your APN type to default, internet, wap

  22. Jasmine DuBose | |

My data still won’t work on my s3

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Jasmine,
That isn’t much information to try and help you. What is your phone’s model, are you using the Straight Talk AT&T network-compatible SIM, the Straight Talk T-Mobile network-compatible SIM, Straight Talk’s Verizon compatible network, or the Straight Talk Sprint compatible network?

  23. Alicia | |

Please help. I bought my phone a few weeks ago and almost immediately noticed my internet did not work without WiFi. I changed my network mode from LTE/CDMA to just CDMA which fixed that problem. About a week ago I noticed I cannot send or receive pictures. I tried the steps listed here and cannot do them because I don’t have anything that says access point names

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Alica,
Sounds like you are using a Galaxy S3 on the Straight Talk Sprint compatible network. These instructions are for people using the Straight Talk AT&T network-compatible SIM or the Straight Talk T-Mobile network-compatible SIM in their Galaxy S3.

Straight Talk doesn’t publish how to set the APN and MMS information for their Sprint network phones. Supposedly this is done when you dial the activation sequence. Try dialing it again.
      Regards
      Bob

When I ordered my sim card I ordered one for T-mobile but the one I received does not say that and now after I got mine I saw that the ST website no longer specified that you needed a special one. Maybe that is my problem?

I thought I was using APN for t mobile but then I noticed that they were for ATT phones.

I need some serious help. I have an att unlocked phone and straight talk is my carrier. I have called them a bunch of times, they gave me several different apn settings and now they are saying that they basically don’t know what else to do. I have contacted the company that I bought the phone and they have gave me several other settings to try but no luck. The problem that I’m having is, I can do everything but open picture texts. I can send them, it takes forever to send it, but it will send. I can get online without wifi with no problem. I can literally do everything but open picture text messages. PLEASE HELP!!!! I would list all the different settings that I’ve entered but really, there are too many to list. Please Please help me because this is driving me crazy!!
    Thanks & God Bless,
    Stephen M.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Stephen,
Sorry to hear about your MMS problems. If sending MMS is slow, check you status bar to see the network indicator. Do you see LTE, H, 3G, E, or something else. May people report problems receiving MMS.
See Help with Straight Talk and Net10 MMS Picture Messages. The problem opening MMS is a tougher because this is a common problem with Android phones all together. Take a look at the link above and let me know how it goes.

      Bob

Four days after porting my number and I still can’t receive mms. Maybe interesting to note, I actually can’t send or receive mms with the stock texting app. I downloaded go SMS pro. This allows me to send mms, but I still can’t receive them. I think my next course of action might be to call straight talk every day….if I can force myself to that is.

      Hi,
What model s3 do you have? Do you know if you are using the Straight Talk att to straight talk tmobile sim?

Lindsay, I’m in the same boat. At&T SG3…everything is good except that I can’t receive mms. Weird thing is that it was all working fine as I tested straight talk out with the the number they provided. When I ported my number over from Verizon, the mms receiving stopped. I’ve tried all of the suggestions I could find online and still nothing… very annoying.

      Hey Jason,
I just ported a number to ST and had the receive mms problem too. Tested with both my iphone and nexus 5. Receiving mms started working on the iphone a day later. Still need to try it in the nexus 5.
Are you not receiving mms or not able to download the picture when getting the message
      Regards
      Bob

      Hi Chris,
Is your voice and mms service working? You mentioned you are using a tmobile S3, were you using the phone with tmobile before going to straight talk? Finally are you using the straight talk tmobile sim in this phone ?

Hello, i have a samsung s3 thats currently set up to staighttalk att. All of my apn settings are current an up to date so that i could receive 4g data. I purchased a new plan and on that same day i noticed how slow my data was. .07 download to be exact. My signal is a full blast and it shows 4g and its flashing at the top of my phone. Any help, advice, or suggestions? Please

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Gerald,
Hmm. I have never heard this from Galaxy users. Some iPhone users have had issues with slow data after getting an update specific to iPhones. I have never heard of such updates for Android phones.

I assume you mean you renewed or added more service to your account when you say purchased a new plan.

I don’t know. If it were me, I’d power cycle my phone. if I saw no difference. I might even to a factory reset. I might try clearing the cache. If you have a buddy with an AT&T phone you can swap sims and see if his phone is slow it your SIM and vice versa.

If I can help let me know. I’d love to hear an update from you about this problem so we can share it with others.
      Regards
      Bob

hi. I have a sgs3 from at&t that I want to use on ST. straight talk sent me a sim card, it made calls and sent/rec txt but no data. I called St, they gave me a new apn but now it says device is locked by carrier, so I can’t do anything with it. any suggestions?

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Christopher,
Straight Talk uses both the AT&T and t-Mobile networks. They network you are on is controlled by the SIM you use. Your AT&T S3 should work with an Straight Talk AT&T SIM. Did you SIM come on a pink, red, blue, or gray plastic card?
      Regards
      Bob

I cant send or receive mms. I have tried redoing apn settings and rebooting thereafter, still nothing. Any clue what to do?

  46. Karrie | |

I have a Galaxy s3, unlocked, at&t version, running on straight talk. I can send and receive sms fine and SEND mms messages fine.
Problem: I can’t receive a group MMS message, mainly from iphones. I get a ‘download’ button – nothing ever downloads. I am trying to figure out if it is a problem on my end or theirs. Straight Talk says it is a problem with the phone, I seriously doubt that. I have downloaded Handcent sms and go sms pro but the same thing happens with these applications as above. Needless to say, this is frustrating. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    • Bob Thompson | |

      Hi Karrie,
Group texts use MMS. It’s a commonly reported problem by Android users. I hear it a lot from Straight Talk customers. But I read a lot of complaints on the internet about it for all all wireless companies. Try changing your APN type to default, mms, and wap.
Let me know if that helps.
      Regards
      Bob

      • Bob Thompson | |

        Hi Georgia,
Follow the instructions on this page and try the two different sets of APN settings. These settings are for Straight Talk phone using Straight Talk’s ATT network compatible SIM or T-Mobile compatible SIM.

      Hi Monique,
Did you go into the Settings and add the APN information? If so what values did you use?
