Test MMS Picture Messages and Group Texts

Once your data connection is working Test both sending and receiving MMS picture messages and group texts.You may find messages work in one direction works but not the other.

Test Sending and Receiving MMS Picture Messages

Verify that MMS you can send an MMS picture message to a family member, relative, or sympathetic friend.

  1. Open Hangouts, or your default messaging app
  2. create a new message
  3. add your family member or friend to the To field
  4. Take a new photo or attach an existing photo.
  5. Add a text message such as “Hi, I am not sure if I can send pictures from my phone. Can you let me know if you received this pic? Could you include a pic in your reply so I can make sure I can receive pics too. Thanks.”
  6. Verify the picture message is sent from your phone
  7. Wait for a reply

Test Sending and Receiving Group Texts

Group texts are text messages send to two or more people. Group texts use MMS, so if your MMS isn’t working properly, you may not be able to send or receive group texts.

  1. Open Hangouts, or Your default messaging app
  2. create a new message
  3. add two family members or friends to the To field
  4. Add a text message such as “Hi, I am not sure if I can send group texts from my phone. Can you let me know if you received this message? Thanks.”
  5. Verify the group text is sent from your phone
  6. Wait for a reply

Results

If you can send and receive both MMS picture messages, you have set up your APN correctly and can continue to the next section, Finishing Up.
If you cannot send, receive, or send and receive MMS picture messages and group texts, you may have entered you APN settings incorrectly. Go back to your phone’s APN Settings page and check that you entered your settings. Setting up your data connection is easy, but a number of people have problems with MMS using Straight Talk. If you transferred your phone number to Straight Talk it might take several days before you start receiving MMS messages. Others find that using alternative MMSC and MMS Proxy values fixes the problem. Leave a comment and I will try to help.

        I think you could remove proxy.mvno.att.com though and it would still work for you.

    As previously mentioned by someone else, I cannot download MMS messages to my straight talk galaxy s4 mini, nor can I send a photo message. Please help!

      Which APN settings are you using? Are you using a SIM card in your Mini? Do you know which Straight Talk network you are using? ATT or TMobile? or are you on the ST Verizon or Sprint network?

    I just switched to Straight talk and we re unable to open mms (pics). I have tried the list of APN’s listed above, about 5 of the APN solutions listed on the thread that has 157 comments. And I even downloaded the offline SIM app.

    I have a factory unlocked Samsung smart phone that I bought from Best Buy’s marketplace. The OS is Ice cream sandwich.

    I would really appreciate your help.
