Help Setting up Walmart Family Mobile Data and MMS on Your HTC Droid DNA Running Android 4.2

I created this page to help readers set up data, internet, MMS picture messages, and group texts on the HTC Droid DNA running Android 4.2 (Jellybean). If your voice service or SMS text messages are not working this page isn’t going to help you, contact Family Mobile support.

There are many different Android phones on the market and I don’t have this specific phone. I have written setup guides  for iPhones, other Android phones, and even Windows 8 phones so the information here should be enough help you.

With a little effort you should be able to follow the instructions here to get your phone working properly.

To use this guide you should have your Droid DNA ready to go with an active Family Mobile  SIM. Your voice service and SMS text messages should be already working.

To get data, Internet, MMS picture messages working you have to setup your APN and MMS in your phones’ settings.

You need to know the correct values to enter

Name: FamilyMobile
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: Internet+MMS

If you have already tried to set up data and MMS using these values. Leave a comment and I will try to help. These are the most commonly used values.

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap More or Mobile Data
  3. Tap Mobile Networks or Access Point Names
  4. Tap Access Point Names
  5. Tap MENU
  6. Tap New APN
  7. Enter a name (like FamilyMobile)
  8. Enter values above
  9. Tap MENU
  10. Tap Save
  11. From APN list, tap on the dot to enable the APN Settings for the name you entered.
  12. Restart your phone
  13. Test Data with your browser
  14. Test both sending & receiving an MMS picture message
  15. Test sending & receiving group texts

If the instructions above don’t work for you. Check that you entered the settings correctly. It’s easy to make a mistake.

    My phone is a hp elite x 3 . I only get 0 Mobil data used , when I push the button it doesn’t pull up anything else. Can’t find anything on this phone that points to a APN..

    Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy On5 and just got on Wal-mart’s Family Mobile (T-Mobile) plan, and I’m not getting any data access. Is it a settings issue? Here’s all the Access Point information that’s filled in:

    Name: WFM WAP
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 260
    Authetication Type: PAP
    APN Type: default,mms,supl
    APN Protocol: IPv6
    APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4

    Everything else is either “not set,” “unspecified,” or “none.” Any help would be appreciated. 🙂

      Try changing the APN from to and see if that helps. Does your phone show it has a LTE connection in the status bar?

        Changing the APN didn’t seem to help. And no, there’s nothing to indicate an LTE connection in the status bar.

          Actually, I was just messing around with various settings and I think I fixed it! I went into Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and switched it from LTE/3G/2G to 3G/2G and the data started working. Hopefully this will help someone else.

            No LTE, that is not good. Maybe Tmobile doesn’t have LTE in your area.

    Still won’t work. I have different phone though galaxy s5. They had me update these settings and that fixed the internet. BUT still no mms. Was just browsing around for a solution let me know if u know how to fix.

    I have a Note 5 and I used all the steps, but they aren’t working. When I put in the APN type (Internet+MMS), it turns my data off. If I don’t put the type in then I won’t be able to send picture messages. What do I do?

    I used the following setting to get my MMS messages to work on a Verizon Galaxy S5.
    Name: FamilyMobile
    MCC- 310
    MNC- 260
    APN Type- default,admin,supl,hipri,mms (Made several attempts before adding “mms” at the end of it and it worked perfectly)

    Hi I have an unlocked galaxy s5 with walmart family mobile and my internet works but i can not recieve or send pic messages at all, i contacted them many many times, spent hours on the phone changed the apn settings countless times and nothing worked, they issued a ticket and yet nothing still not working, my previous phone was a verizon unlocked lg g2 and everything worked just fine same family mobile network but i have no idea why my unlocked verizon galaxy s5 will not work please help!!!

          I don’t know what the problem with your phone is. I suggested you try the google messaging app to see if MMS works with it. MMS picture messages are very finicky on Android. Just try the app and see if you can send / receive pictures.

          I don’t even use Family Mobile. I use Straight Talk. I wrote bunch of articles about problems with picture messages on Straight Talk and soon people started asking me about other wireless companies. 🙂

    I have a HTC Ruby that I can’t get to connect to internet period. I’ve used these settings and the settings on my family mobile website. I’ve even reset my phone 2x but nothing works. My phone is unlocked, rooted and so frustrating! Help!

      Oh.. And we’re you a Tmobile customer before? Family mobile uses the tmobile network and if you are trying to use your phone in an area where Tmobile doesn’t have good coverage that can be a problem.

    I reset to default and deleted extra APNs and now i am getting group texts, but cant reply/send one. And the only option i have to actually select the APN is the tmobile one that was already on the phone and i can’t edit it.

    Im on Family Mobile with an LG G Stylo.

    i cannot remove the tmobile apn that is stored on my phone, i just paid to have someone give me a new IMEI number bc tmobile locked my IMEI due to the phone not being paid for,..the imei number has been changed but i cannot remove the old tmobile apn from the phone and when i set up the info for a new apn with family mobile it saves it but it keeps reverting back to the tmobile one and it will not let me

      On the APN screen, I’d try doing a reset to default, deleting all the APNS, and reentering the APN again.

    I am currently on family mobile and just bought a blu studio 5.0 and i put my SIM card in the blu studio phone and i am not getting any network service. I called customer service and she said the phone must be locked because everything on her side was telling her i had service. When i purchased this phone i made sure it was US(not global) and unlocked. So i do not know what the problem is. Help please!

      Hi Jojo,
      As far as I know all BLU phones are unlocked. Family Mobile uses the T-Mobile network. Do you know if the TMobule network has coverage in your area? by network service do you mean you are not getting any service such as voice and text messaging.

      Are you trying the phone at home only or have you tried it in the nearest populated area?

      APN settings do not control if you get 4g lte or 3G data. The issue is either the network in your area or your phone. Is this a Verizon phone you are using?

    Hi Bob. I am considering making this exact change myself (Verizon to Family Mobile) with my Droid DNA, so my google search brought me here. Can you confirm that the settings above from last March will still work as you described? Are there any changes you would make to this now? My contract isn’t up until Feb 22, so I’m not quite ready to switch yet. Just preparing to try it. Thanks for your help.

      Hi Dan,
      Walmart Family Mobile uses the T-Mobile network. You are currently using the Verizon network. I’d make sure the T-Mobile network has adequate coverage in your area before switching. Or is it the case that only the Verizon network works well in your area.

      I’d assume the settings on this page still work. I don’t use Family Mobile myself, I just looked up the settings for reader and created the page to help them.

          Hi Dan,
          compare the savings vs other prepaid options that use the Verizon network including Verizon prepaid, Straight Talk, Page Plus and even Red Pocket. Make sure you are looking at plans that support 4G LTE.

            Yeah, looking again, the PagePlus network seems to be more compatible with my phone (shouldn’t have to make any settings changes) and I’ll still have the V network. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Spent 2 hours on the phone with t-mobile…we tried different settings and APNs. Nothing worked. They told me to contact HTC. So another hour on the phone with HTC…and after trying many of the same things t-mobile told me to try…failure. The final diagnosis from HTC is that some phones mms just will not work when you cross carriers…this is a Verizon phone. Sounds like a colour to me. So I downloaded gosms pro off of play store and it works. So I will live with this for now…but still looking for the solution

      Hi Greg,
      I looked up your phone when you first posted. It should be compatible with T-Mobile. The vast majority of questions I get here on the site are about MMS issues. I suspect the issue that both the phone manufacturers and the prepaid wireless operators are not able to test all these mix and match combinations of phone and wireless service providers and they never seem to find the bugs.

      Did you delete any other apns that were in the APN lost and make sure that the circle to the right of the APN is highlighted?
