A reader, Melissa, asks…
Bob, You seem to know more than the rest of the Internet.
I got a new Blu Vivo 4.3 unlocked with a Straight Talk ATT compatible sim. I don’t know any of the APN settings that I need…the default name is ATT, but I’m not sure even that is right. Can you help me out?
Hi Melissa,
I don’t have a Blu Vivo 4.3 phone myself but I do know the APN settings that Straight Talk uses. I am willing to try to help you. I can’t promise we will be able to get it to work. It also may require a little effort on your part. I set up this web page so we can keep track of the steps.
Leave a comment here if you would still like some help.
Regards
Bob

Bob thanks for the help you knowledge an invaluable ! The slateDroid link also is appreciated the phones with att gophone or t-mobile sims do not find the APN settings for the 2G EDGE GSM 850 network connection the sim cards load several other APNs for each carrier. At this point I would be talk and text with no or very slow data.

Hi William,
Unfortunately, I think this phone isn’t compatible with T-Mobile’s 3G network. You might possible get it to work on their 2G edge network, or ATT’s 2G Edge network but will be disappointed with the data speeds.
If you look at the specs on this page http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6061447630.html it says the phone supports
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G WCDMA: 850/2100MHz
I find a interesting thread that discusses this here: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/39447-list-of-chinese-phones-that-work-in-the-americas-wcdma-8501900/
While more expensive, I generally recommend BLU and Motorola (G and the new E) phones for people looking for an decent Android phone that doesn’t cost an arm or leg.

Hello Bob and all who might help
I have a new china made ViVO Y13Y13s with android 4.3.0 and cannot get it to connect to T-Mobile prepaid. Have tried all the default T-Mobile APNs The sim card shows up any no signal to the strength bars. No Connection when I try phone or text.. Tried reboot ate each APN no connection the phone website is http://www.vivo.com.cn/vivo/y13/
Do you have any idea how to get my new phone to connect ?
THANKS
Cheers
Bill
Hi William,
Chinese android phones often have limited compatibilty with US networks. Do you have a link to where you bought the phone from, I’d like to look at the specs.
Regards
Bob
Also having this issue please help.
Hi Kristie,
Which issue are you having?
Regards
Bob
I’ve done the APN but I still can’t receive or send multimedia messages, any more solutions? Please
Hi Edwin,
Did you look up your APN on the Straight Talk website? what is it?
Regards
Bob
Thank you for your efforts here Bob. Unfortunately, none of these suggestions helped with my Blu Vivo 4.3 MMS issues on StraightTalk. I found the following settings that worked.
Name: STRAIGHT_TALK
APN: wap.tracfone
Proxy: 216.155.165.40
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone
MMS Proxy: 215.155.165.40
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
The original settings suggested MNC=410 but that would not allow me to save the new APN. Changing to 26 did the trick.
I found these at:
http://apn-settings.com/straight-talk-mms-not-working/
Hi Jack,
Thank you for leaving a comment. For other readers, it should be MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com not MMSC: http://mms.tracfone
That is a good site. I actually have those settings listed in some of the guides on the site. I need to figure out a way to consolidate the list on APNs so that everyone can find them. How did you come up with 260 for the MNC?
And could I impose on you for a favor? Would you mind going to http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/support/apn , entering your phone number and your version of Android and seeing what values Straight Talk tells you you should be using. I am curious if these settings are really the ones Straight Talk assigned to your account, or they just are ones that work for you.
Regards
Bob
I got a new blu life pure and have done the apn and have checked it all to make sure correct and I still can’t get internet or picture messaging on my phone. I was wondering about the data connection option on the phone it shows att and off. I am really frustrated and have went through many websites with no luck…any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Hi Clarence,
I am not sure which “data connection” setting you are referring to but if you can turn it on please give it a try. Focus on getting data to work, then MMS.
When you test your data connection do you see a H, 3G, or some other network indicator in your status bar?
Regards
Bob
I am not sure how to test data connection. I have nothing showing besides the network indicator. Willing to try ANYTHING!!! APN settings as follows:
straight talk
tfdata
default,mms,wap
not set
80
not set
not set
not set
http://mms-tf.net
mms3.tracfone.com
80
310
410
not set
IPv4
IPv4
anp enabled (then checked box)
unspecified
When I open up the mobile network settings there is a “data connection” “data roaming” “preferred networks” “network mode” “access point names” and “network operators”…was wondering if maybe something besides the APN is wrong in one of those.
When I enter the info above and click the save option, nothing happens. The new APN does not show up in the available APN’s. Am I missing a step?
Hi jack,
A reader and I wrote this guide: http://smartphonematters.com/guides/how-to-set-up-straight-talk-data-and-mms-for-the-blu-vivo-4-3-running-android-4/
I don’t have the phone at hand. Is there already an APN on your phone? Or are you adding the first one.
Thanks Bob. There were 2 T Mobile APN’s on the phone. Probably because my ST SIM was T Mobile compatible?
Dear Bob,
For future reference, those are them. The change to 2 made all the difference.
Thanks for all the help and expertise!
Firstly, thanks a lot.
So far I’ve gotten my data up and I can receive mms, but I still can’t send any. I got on the phone with straight talk and these are the settings I have currently:
name: straighttalk
apn: tfdata
apn type: default
mmsc: http://mms-tf.net
mms proxy: mms3tracfone.com
mms port: 80
mcc:310
mnc:410
authentication type: pap or chap
apn protocol: IPv4
proxy, port, username, and password not set.
I have the ATT compatible sim.
Again, thanks in advance for any help you can give. I know that you can’t promise to fix it, but the effort is much appreciated.
Melissa
Hi Melissa,
this is great progress. Really good. I always add the disclaimer when I offer help because sometimes people don’t want to try a bunch of different options unless they are proven.
I am going to assume you made a typo above. mms3tracfone.com should be mms3.tracfone.com
try changing mms3.tracfone.com to mms2.tracfone.com and see if that helps. It works for a lot of iPhone users.
Regards
Bob
