Getting Started
I wrote this guide to share with you how I set up my Net10 Wireless data/internet connection and MMS picture messaging on my Google LG Nexus 5 running Android 4.4 (KitKat). While this guide shows how I set up my Nexus 5, I would expect it would work with other phones running Android 4.x.
What This Guide Will Help You With
This guide is meant to show you, a new or existing Net10 Wireless customer, how to set up phone to use the Internet, MMS Picture Messages, and Group Texts. You should have a active Net10 AT&T network compatible or T-Mobile network compatible SIM already to insert into your Nexus 5.
What This Guide Will Not Help You With
If you are unable to make or receive voice calls or send/receive SMS text messages this guide will not fix those problems.
If You Are Looking for..
If you were searching the Internet for Net10 Wireless, Nexus 5, APN, MMS APN, MMS Proxy, MMSC, tfdata, wap.tracfone, att.mvno, mms.tracfone.com, http://mms-tf.met, http://mmsc.cingular.com, 66.209.11.33, 66.209.11.32 or 216.155.165.40, then this is probably site you are searching for. Don’t worry if you don’t know what any of those terms mean. This guide will show you step-by-step what do to.
Phone and SIM information
My phone is Google Nexus 5 (Black 32 GB) that I ordered from directly from Google Play. The phone is carrier unlocked so it can be used on either the ATT or T-Mobile network. My phone is running Android 4.4.
I have an activated Net10 Wireless Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) ATT network-compatible micro SIM. I ordered my SIM directly from the Net10 Wireless so that I would get one of the new 4G LTE compatible SIMs that are now available.
Click Next Page >> below to begin reading the guide.
What do you need to do when switching from the net10 $50 plan to the $40 plan? Do you just enter a $40 pin number, or do you have to do something else also ?
Hi Jack,
I don’t know for sure. I logged into my online net10 account and it looks like you can do it under My Account Summary > Net10 Monthly Plans > Change Plans. I have not tried it. You can also call Net10 and ask them. If it were me, I’d probably try that option and then call them if i had a problem.

Hi Jose,
Maybe I could help, can you share a little more info about the problem you are having?
What a lifesaver this site has been! Thank you so much!! I have the Moto g LTE running android version 4.4.4 with a Net 10 sim (AT&T) and after trying all kinds of configurations for the APN settings these are the ones that finally worked and allowed me to get data & recieve picture messaging:

Hi GoingCrazy,
I think that Moto G LTE is one of the best deals out there for a prepaid phone. They just came out with a newer G model, and it isn’t LTE.

Still not working. Have the tfdata settings loaded in both the system settings and Hangouts settings. Getting LTE or H data connectivity and can send MMS but cannot receive MMS. Help! Thanks!
Hi Mike,
f you recently signed up for Straight Talk and transferred your phone number it may take a few days before you can receive MMS picture messages. I had the same issue. I set up three Straight Talk accounts. MMS worked fine for the two with new phone numbers. I could not receive MMS for the third, the one I transferred a number to. I tried the SIM in two different phone and it did not work. After a few days I decided to see if I could try to fix it, only to find it working.
This is a common problem. You can also try setting your APN type to default, mms, wap or default, mms, supl. Some readers have had luck by trying different MMSC and MMS proxy values. Read both the following articles and the comments to see what has worked for others.

I have tried all apn settings and still no mms. The phone is a Tmobile lg g2
Hi Danny,
Are you using Straight Talk’s AT&T network-compatible SIM or Straight’s Talk T-Mobile network-compatible SIM? Visit the Straight Talk website to look up your APN settings. Use your phone number and your phone type select Android 4.0 & 4.1. What does the site return for your APN settings?

regards.
Bob
i have galaxy s4 running android 4.4.2 and i can not get the mms to receive but i can send. im on net 10’s $50 plan.
hi Briana,
1. Which APN settings are you using?
2. Did you recently transfer your number to Net10?
3. Do you know if you are using the Net10 ATT SIM or the Net10 TMobile SIM?
If you just transferred your number it can take a few days before you start receiving MMS Picture Messages. I had the same issue recently. I set up three accounts. I could receive MMS on the two accounts with new numbers immediately, the one with the transferred number didn’t work at first, it took several days.
There are some other things that work for people. You can try setting your APN type. You can try changing the MMS Proxy and MMSC values. See the two posts and the comments below if you want to try those options.
Help with Straight Talk and Net10 MMS Picture Messages
I Can’t Receive MMS Picture Messages Using Straight Talk or Net10 on My iPhone Using iOS 7.0.4
I have a Nexus 5 with Net10 AT&T Sim that can’t send pictures with text (mms). I can send pictures using Voxer.
The only APN that works is:
APN Name: Net10
APN: tfdata
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
I see on Net10 they have another setting for MMS_APN: tfdata which is not found on my Nexus 5.
Crazy thing is my wife has a Nexus 4 with the exact same settings and it works fine. My father in law has a Nexus 5 with Straight Talk using the APN with WAP with no issues. If I copied his APN to my phone and I loose data and texting all together.
Hi Jim,
Some phones allow you to set different APNs for MMS and data. The Nexus 5 does not. I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that Voxer doesn’t use MMS to send pictures. It uses your data connection.
Many people have issues getting MMS working correctly with Straight Talk and Net10 Wireless. Sometimes its the phone, sometimes it their service, and sometimes the problem is a combination.
If you are new to Net10 sometimes it starts working after a few days. Especially after if you ported a phone number. Some people are able to get it to work by tweaking the MMSC and MMS proxy values. Try changing that mms3 to mms2. Make sure to set the MCC and MNC to 310 and 410 respectively.
You can try changing the APN, but i don’t thik it will help. your data will stop working.
You can also do a Reset to default” in the APNs screen, remove any existing APNs, and enter a new one fresh
Regards
Bob
Thanks for the quick reply Bob!
I just tried mms2 but it made no difference.
When got the phone I was only able to use att.mvno, but around the first of the year I lost data connection. I found Net10 could no longer use the att.mvno APN. That’s how I got to the APN I am using.
I guess I am to my last resort of calling Net10 tech support. Hopefully I get an English speaking techie…
Hi Jim,
I’d suggest trying the APN type and reading these artciles and the comments.

Ok… I called Net10 and the lovely tech support came thru. She had me delete the existing APN and instructed me thru entering this APN. She stressed I enter everything exactly as instructed.
Name: NET10
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mmsc3.tracfone.com
MMS Port:80
The only thing that was different was the Name which I had as Net-10.
Hope that helps someone else!
Hi Jim,
The name doesn’t matter. It’s just want is displayed in the list of apns.
Glad to hear it’s working
Regards
Bob
I have a HTC one AT&T branded with net 10byop I use the tfdata got sms, data, can make and receive calls but I can’t get mms ever since updating to kit Kat! It worked prior to the update and now it always fails. I can see ones sent to me but can’t download them. And always fails trying to send
Hi Kyle,
Try removing your MMS proxy. You can also try doing a “Reset to Default” in the APNs screen, and adding the APN again. If that doesn’t work, consider backing up the phone and doing a factory reset.

Bob
Since you asked another user about cost savings, I thought I’d let you know how I decided to buy an unlocked Nexus 5 and Net10 service. My partner and I had a family plan with Verizon that cost about $93/mo including 700 shared minutes, 250 texts, taxes, etc. We had two lines and these were not smart phones, just flip phones for voice and text.
My partner needed a new flip phone so we ordered a basic model from Net10 with a $15 limited minutes plan just to try it out. The phone was only $5 plus $7 shipping! We ported the number, signed up for a auto refill monthly plan, and within minutes he was off Verizon.
In the Columbus, OH area, the signal is excellent. We constantly had dropped calls with Verizon, and their solution was to try to sell us a signal booster for $200. I had to always make calls from a bathroom where the signal was strongest. Since he had such good luck with his phone, I ordered a Nexus 5, protective case, and sim card.
My plan will cost $45/mo, so plus his $15/mo plan we’re saving $33 dollars each month. In about 14 months we’ll recover the cost of my phone. If we’d added a smart phone to Verizon, our bill would have gone up to about $123 per month. We’re paying less than half of that for excellent service, plus no contract. Not to mention the cost of a Galaxy or iPhone with a contract-it wouldn’t have been free, even with rebates.
Thanks again for your help!
When we reviewed our text and voice usage, we decided it would be worth a little extra to have one phone with unlimited usage up to 2.5GB. We use my phone for lengthy calls to family, tech support, etc. I haven’t downloaded much but browsing the internet is very fast with or without wifi. I’m leaving my friends’ HTC and iPhone in the dust.
Overall Net10 is a great way to save money without compromising service or getting tied down with a contract. I loved my pay-as-you-go phone when I lived in England 10 years ago and couldn’t understand why everyone in the US was buying contracts.
Susan
Hi Bob,
Your tutorial was amazing. I had no idea where to start and you took me through it step by step. I followed your steps and easily set up data and MMS picture messages on the first try.
The fact that you had such a great tutorial available made buying my unlocked Nexus 5 and Net10 sim card a little less scary. This is my first smart phone (I know, welcome to the new millenia).
I used these settings:
APN: wap.tracfone
MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com
MMS proxy: 216.155.165.40
MMS proxy port: 8080
A note on actually activating my phone: I received my phone and sim card in the mail. I could not for love or money get my phone activated by purchasing a Net10 plan online. This may be because I was porting my number from Verizon.
I had to buy a $50 minutes card at a retailer so I had a PIN to enter when prompted during the port process. I plan to sign up for the $50 monthly unlimited plan with auto refill so it will cost $45/mo.
Thanks again for your awesome tutorial. I really appreciate the work you put into making it so detailed.
Susan
Hi Susan,
I replied to you here: I Switched My Family from Verizon to Net10 Wireless and save $33 a Month
Net10 – Lost data service after changing from $50 to $40 monthly plan.
Phone type: Google Nexus 5
I originally had the $50 a month plan with a $5 discount for auto enrollment and just recently changed. Upon changing plans all data stopped working. It wasn’t until playing around with the APN settings that I was able to restore all data.
I’m not sure if others experience this, but I had to specify the APN type as the original value is set to “not set”. After changing this I was able to finally connect.
For those who want to see all of the settings that I used to restore connectivity please see below.
NAME: NET10_40plan
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS PROXY: 66.209.11.33
MMS PORT: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: None
APN Type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: Unspecefied
MVNO type: None
Thank you for putting together this site it definitely helped me in my efforts to restore connectivity.
Hi Rick,
Thank you for talking the time to comment. I had always heard people say they needed to set the APN type on Android phones. I was surprised I didn’t have to. I don’t know why it worked without it and then it needed later. I don’t know why MMS is so problematic.
I recently noticed the new Net10 tiered plans as well. Do you get the $5 discount on the $40 a month plan? I have been meaning to write a post about the new plans. If I may ask you a few questions.
what is your net savings per month after the change?
Did you measure / track your data usage and realize that you dont need the 2.5GB of data?
These new tiered plans could turn out to be create for consumers.
Rick, I had the same problem when switching from $50 to $40 plan. I fixed it but now can’t get LTE. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hi Rob,
How long have you been without LTE? I assume you have restarted your phone. I know that sometimes it takes a while to get an lte connection. Are you you using the att or tmobile sim?
I’m using att and it has only been today that this has started
thanks
Bob, here is my situation:
First month on net10 I had $50 plan and used this:
APN: tfdata
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS proxy port: 80
Everything worked fine
Yesterday I swictched to $40 plan and data stopped working. I then switched to these settings:
APN: att.mvno
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS proxy port: 80
Now it works EXCEPT I can’t get LTE AND I can’t recieve MMS (I can send MMS)
I’ve tried all the different MMS settings.
Would appretiate any suggestions
Thanks! Rob
Hi Rob,
I don’t what the issue with the LTE is. When you swapped to the 40 plan, it looks like your account was re-provisioned to a new APN. In that process receiving MMS stopped working.i Carly,
This is a common problem. I set up an additional account this week and have the same problem. Try the suggestions here See Help with Straight Talk and Net10 MMS Picture Messages
You might have some luck by calling Net10 and see if you can get them to switch you to the tfdata APN. They might do it for you. Just keep telling them, that one worked for you.
You could also try factory reset on your phone. Which might help with the LTE issue. Check the settings too make sure network mode is LTE.
Regards
Bob
Bob,
Problem solved! I changed the last number of the MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33 to 66.209.11.32. Everything else the same. I saw that proxy number a few places online so thought I’d try it. Still no LTE but to be honest I don’t care about that as I’m on wifi 95% of time. MMS works like a dream & in fact now I am able to send/receive much larger pictures. Please pass along this info, as us Net10 BYOP folks are left to wander in the wilderness. Thanks for your help and this informative website. All the best. Rob
Hi Rob,
That is great news. Yes I know I have that .32 proxy listed someplace on the site. Glad it’s working. I have a theory on the LTE too. I had to update my net10 att sim to go from 4g to 4g lte. I have encountered some people with older sims that get lte, the speed was slower. I am wondering if you transferred to a new sim specifically sold as 4g lte compatible is that would solve the problem. That is, if you are willing to switch after you go it working again.
Regards
Bob
I just (Jan 2014) got the Nexus 5, 32 gb. Bought my AT&T micro SIM card off Amazon, got a first month plan from Walmart.com.
I was having a lot of trouble getting my LTE mobile data to work; trying different combinations.
I finally got it to work by:
– deleting all other APNs
– following instructions here http://www.net10byop.com/program.php for AT&T
Hi BB,
Thanks for sharing. Did you try my guide and have trouble with it!
Regards
Bob
Hi Bob,
So I just bought a Nexus 5 and almost everything is going perfect. My LTE speeds were great and SMS is working. But then I tried MMS, I did get sending to work, but receiving just won’t work.
I have an ATT micro Sim Card and my LTE signal seems strong. What else should I try???
I’ve used these settings primarily.
APN: tfdata
MMSC:http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms2.tracfone.com and mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
Hi Alex,
since nov 2013 many Net10 and Straight Talk customers have been reporting problems receiving MMS. Some people are able to fix it by by trying different MMSC and MMS Proxy values. See the comments on the article below for some of the values.
I Can’t Receive MMS Picture Messages Using Straight Talk or Net10 on My iPhone Using iOS 7.0.4

I had my Nexus 5 working with everything… Last night I order online for the next month but with a higher data limit… Since then my phone will not connect unless I’m using wifi… I was using tfdata with mms2.tracfone.com… any suggestions?
Hi Patrick,
If your data doesn’t work. I would.
1. Power your phone on and off
2. Remove any APNs.
3. Create a new APN
4. enter only the name and APN tfdata
5. test internet
6. if it doesn’t work. Try att.mvno and wap.tracfone for the APN
Let me know how it goes.
Regards
Bob
Are we supposed to delete two other two APNs in the list? If so, how? The other two APNs show as active. Is there a way to deactivate them? Thanks!
Hi,
Only one APN should be active. Yuo can remove them. or tap them to deactivate them.
Regards
Bob
Thank you for this. There is a typo on the Net10 online instructions.
Net10: MMSC: http://mms.tf.net – Does not work
Your page: MMSC: http://mms-tf.net – WORKS!
You saved me a lot of grief and hours on the phone with customer service.
Hi Enganear
Great news! Thank you for pointing out the typo. That is good to know!

Bob
Hello Bob,
I have been trying to get my friend’s phone to receive MMS, it currently can send MMS/SMS, make/receive calls, and access internet. The APN that works is the tfdata and that was figured out early on. I have tried almost every combination of MMSC and MMS settings you provided but still no luck getting it work. Some of the settings would make it so it wouldn’t send the messages and still unable to send. I have also cleared the cache as you recommended to Garrett and no change is made. The most I can get it do when it comes to receiving a MMS is to show a message was received but not able to download the actual image. I have hit a wall and can not think of anything else. I did manage to get it to work on a custom ROM but can’t remember the settings that I used! If you can recommend anything that would be awesome!!
Thank you,
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Since November, many Straight Talk & Net10 customers are reporting problems receiving MMS. I dont have a solution. Some people manage to fix the problem by changing MMS proxy and MMSC values. Some have transferred service to a new SIM card. A few have reported calling the carrier and getting them to update their systems to get it to work. Unfortunately, no one solution seems to work for a large group of people.
You can look at some of the MMSC / MMS proxy results reported here: I Can’t Receive MMS Picture Messages Using Straight Talk or Net10 on My iPhone Using iOS 7.0.4. Check the comments to see what others have reported working for them.
Keep checking the site. I’ll update as I find out more details.
Regards
Bob
Hey Bob,
I have been trying to get another phone, although running Gingerbread, to receive MMS and it will receive that one was sent but will not download the image. I have tried every combination I can think of to get it to work but have been met with failure. Sending is easy, most of the combinations worked to send, except for the mms.tracfone.net 216.155.165.40 8080. I have tried clearing the cache, again almost every combination of MMSC MMC info you have posted, including the ones you recommended for Garrett. APN for the phone is tfdata, if you could think of anything that would be great! I have hit a wall and have ran out of ideas.
Works great
Cool!
I too want to thank the author of this forum for such a thorough explanation of how to get data to work on the Nexus 5. The instructions here got me as far as understanding I had to change the APN. I found the settings that worked for my Nexus 5 at the link Steve ( below ) found: http://www.net10byop.com/program.php. But be sure you pay attention to the top tabs in the web page, choosing the correct carrier. I chose AT&T and it worked instantly. Thanks very much Bob.
Hi Lizzy,
You are welcome. BTW.. Steve didn’t notice I had all those settings in the guide? Did you not see them as well? I wonder if I need to make that part clearer?
Glad you up and running
Regards
Bob
Mine is not working with any of the listed APN settings. LTE data works well with the tfdata APN, but I cannot receive MMS messages (though I can send) with any of the MMS settings unless I use the wap.tracfone APN and forego LTE data. I have troubleshooted extensively with Net10 support (even after “escalating” several support levels) to move avail. Hopefully you can help.
Thanks in advance for the help, and thanks for the great guide!
Garrett
Hi Garrett,
This last week many Net10 customers are reporting issues receiving MMS on all types of phones. There doesn’t seem to be any reliable fix. You might be able to come up with a workaround.
1. try using the MMS proxy mms2.tracfone.com instead of mms3.tracfone.com
2.Try using the MMSC and MMS proxy listed with the wap.tracfone APN with the the tfdata APN.
3. try using the wap.tracfone APN, and keep an eye on your connection speed. On some phones, you’ll see the LTE drop to 4G or H when sending and receiving MMS and then return to LTE shortly after.
Let me know how it goes.
Regards
Bob
Hi Bob,
Thanks for these excellent guides, I really appreciate all of the effort you’ve clearly put into this site. I have a Nexus 4, and I use Net10 with an AT&T simcard. Since it upgraded to KitKat a week or two ago, I haven’t been able to send or receive MMS messages. I’ve tried all of the different APNs that you describe here, including the workarounds above, and none of them have resulted in success. I’m really starting to think it’s on Net10/AT&T’s end, which is frustrating. Do you have any other suggestions or tips?
Thanks so much,
Courtney
Hi Courtney,
Yes there are some things you can try. And yes it might be a Net10 issue. A lot of people have been having trouble receiving MMS the last 3 + weeks.
First, try turning off WiFi and see if you can send and receive an MMS. Try sending one to yourself too and see what happens.
Let me know.
Regards
Bob
Hi Bob,
Thanks for your response! I tried all of these with my WiFi off, and no joy. Further suggestions?
Thanks again,
Courtney
Hi Courtney,
I think I replied to you by email.. Let me know if I did not.
Regards
Bob
Thanks again, Bob, for all of your help. Android released an update (to Android 4.4.2) and now they’re working again, with the standard Net10 APN settings. Good luck to everyone else!
I’ve tried all of your suggestions, without any luck. The only APN I get any data with is tfdata, and non of your included MMS settings work with that on my phone. Stock everything, 4.4, 4.4.1, or 4.4.2, even after a whole billing cycle (after which some people claim their MMSes begin to work). Hopefully you can provide some additional insight. I am in Miami, FL and virtually always have 4 bars and LTE, for what it is worth.
Thanks again,
Garrett
Hi Garret,
Did you try
APN: tfdata
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
——————————————–
APN–tfdata
MMSC–http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy–66.209.11.33
MMS Port 80
I had a reader who reset his cache and it worked for him. Let me know if you want to try that.
Regards
Bob
This website is amazing – this is hands down the most descriptive, detailed, and helpful guide I have seen on how to do this. I will be sure to link to your site when helping my friends make the switch from their carrier to net10.
Great work!
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the comment. I hope it made it easier to set up your phone.
Regards
Bob
I found more specific APN setting entries on Net10’s website: http://www.net10byop.com/program.php
I was having issues with the instructions Net10 gave when I purchased the SIM card, it wouldn’t get a data connection. I found this guide, but that also didn’t get things to work.
Once I entered the settings for AT&T phones that were listed in the above link, everything worked great. They have different settings for T-Mobile, and then another set of settings for ‘all other carriers’.
Hi steve,
Thanks for the comment. I am a little confused though. Which set of APN settings are on the net10 site that are not on page 5 of the guide? Or was the guide not clear are that you needed to try the different settings? The guide is new so if there is something confusing I want to fix it.
Thanks
Bob
Looks like they’re all there. I think I may have dismissed them on the first time stepping through thinking they were ads.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. The guide is new, so you feedback is valuable. I want to make the guides as clear as possible.
Regards,
Bob
There are two other APNs in the list, but the NET10 APN is selected. I’ve tried turning the phone off and on again with not luck, and when I test the data the wifi was turned off. I don’t see any LTE symbol, but most of the time I have full signal bars.
Matt,
When you test data, there should be some sort of network connection indicator. I’ve seen LTE and H on my phone, I assume I’d se 3G and E as well. Do you have another phone you could test this sim in? Can you test in a different location, and see if you get the lte indicator?
I am going to check a few things on my phones settings
Let me know.
Regards
Bob
I have two other APNs in the list but the NET10 APN is selected. I test the data with my WiFi turned off. I don’t see a LTE service indicator, but most of the time I do have full bars.
I just got my white Nexus 5 32G and just switched over to Net10 and after following all the steps in this guide I still cant get my data to work.
Hi Matt,
Are voice and MMS working? Are you using the Net10 ATT or Net10 TMobile SIM? (Blue or Pink)? Using the tfdata APN?
Let me know, you are the first commenter on my guide so I want to get you up and running. I think the Nexus 5 is pretty cool!

Voice and SMS are working. I am using the tfdata APN but still no luck. I love the Nexus 5 so far even without data yet.

Do you know which SIM you have? Blue or Pink ATT / TMobile?
I have the ATT micro sim
Matt,
When you add the new APN there are two in the others in the list. Did you confirm the net10 one was active? After setting the APN did you try rebooting phone? When you try to test data with wifi is off. Do you see an LTE, or other network indicator in the status bar? Can you email me a screen shot? Press power and volume down att he same time to take a screen shot
