Introduction
I wrote this guide to share with you how I set up my data/internet connection and MMS picture messaging on my Nokia Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 8. While this guide shows how I set up my Nokia Lumia 920, I would expect it would work with other Nokia Lumia models or Windows Phone 8 smartphones.
For this guide, I expect you have an active Straight Talk Wireless SIM inserted into your phone. Your voice calls and SMS text messages show work already work. Your cellular data and MMS picture messaging will not work until you configure your phone.
I created this guide using a Nokia Lumia 920 and a Straight Talk AT&T compatible SIM. I was using one of the new Straight Talk SIMs so my phone gets 4G LTE service.

Thanks for this post… I was about to give up and go back to my old phone but this worked for me… I can now use the data connection and send mms…
glad it helped. Still rocking your windows phone? cool
I put in everything and it starting working great but then it goes from 4g to LTE and i havent moved location of the phone.
I have Nokia Lumia Cyan
On your phone LTE is better than 4G.
Hi Bob,
I just unlocked my Nokia Lumia 1020 (win 8.1) and switched it over to Straight Talk and now only calling and incoming text works. It seems I have tried every APN combination on this site and Straight Talk’s.
I’m hoping you might be able to help.
Thank you.
Tesla,
Maybe. Start by looking up your Straight Talk APN. What is it? RESELLER, wap.tracfone, tfdata, att, mvno, something else?
Looking up Your Straight Talk Wireless APN Settings
It says RESELLER. Most of the fields they give do not match to mine. Im trying it now.
Ok. Hopefully yo can follow my article to match the setting from the website to the settings to need to enter in to your phone.
Should I enter these into both the “access point” settings and “mobile + sim” settings?
I don’t remember. My Lumia broke, so I haven’t used it in a while. I think just in access point settings. I’ll charge the phone and take a look.
I got it!
RESELLER works, I entered the information in both access point and the sim settings. The problem was the sms centre number!! I had to get that from Straight Talk customer service.
Thanks so much for your help.
Can you share the SMS center number? I haven’t heard that this was needed before.. It’s not unique to your account is it?
From what I have read it is specific to the carrier. I had ATT before so I had an ATT sms centre number and that was causing my problem. The Straight Talk sms centre number (found in message settings; Nokie Lumia 1020) is +13123149810

Just wanted to thank the author for clear, concise, logical, and accurate information. I used it to set up a Lumia 640 with tracfone using the info for tfdata.
I know a bit about computers but nothing about phones, and this saved me a lot of time and effort.
CM,
Thanks! I am glad the article helped.
I still can not get my data to work on my windows lumoia 435. I got my MMS picture\txt messaging to work but can’t seemmto get my data to work. Some one please help me? If its is any help e-mail me
Nicole
What APN are yo using?
I have BLU windows Jr. The tfdata for apn. Worked for me. Along with the mms3.tracfone.com for URL wap gateway. Including of course all the port and mmsc settings. The instructions here seemed long but suitable for any computer illiterate. But most of all after 20 different help sites it’s the only one that worked.
Beverly,
Yes it’s long, tried to include enough to detail for people of all skill levels.
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment.
Bob,Gary Colling again kinregards to my Nokia Lumia 920unlocked phone. I bought it new from walmart.com assuming being came from Walmart it would be straight talk compatible.you ask me what companies serve this area? company’s that serve this area I live in 68847are Verizon,US Cellular and viearo.that I know of anyways.I sure do thank you for taking the time to help me. and anxiously await your reply as to what I need to do.
Hi Gary,
See my reply here http://www.smartphonematters.com/can-i-use-a-nokia-920-with-straight-talk-wireless/
I have a straight talk $45 plan and just got a new Nokia lumia 920. I was told by someone that living in the area code I live in the phone was not compatible. With straight talk.my area code is 68847.he said the phone runs off at&t towers and we have no at&t services in this area.. This is not true is it? Thank you for helping me
Gary,
The 920 is indeed an ATT phone. It may also work on the TMobile network. I looked up 68847 on the Straight Talk website and it said that ATT phones are not compatible in your area. What wireless company do people use in your area? Verizon? Something else?
I have lumia 900 ! Have been told my msm will not work because there is nowhere to change settings
patty,
this might work for you.

Looking up Your Straight Talk Wireless APN Settings

MMS PROXY proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS PORT 80

btw i just got a new phone, and the group text started becoming an issue on my last phone, i wonder if it was the upgrade to win 8.1,
and they are about to release win 10, so this fun should start again as soon as this gets fixed
The Internet on my phone still isn’t working 🙁 I have a Nokia lumia 635 I bought and had unlocked from cricket and I got straight talk on it I used the nano tmobile lte SIM card and I can call and text but nothing else
Hi Julie,
What did you set your APN to?
Do you know what type of data signal you are getting? Do you see an LTE, 4G, 3G , or E in your status bar?
Nice! I just went back to my Lumia 920 after changing jobs. Your instructions were perfect and much easier than the Straight Talk directions and tech support. Done in 10 minutes (after messing with them for over an hour). You are my hero!
That is great news.
I am glad to hear you got that Lumia up and going again. It’s a nice phone.

I want to thank you. After an hour and a half with Straight Talk tech support, I was transferred to a higher up and was promptly hung up on. I can now MMS thanks to this page. The last person from ST told me the last field was 8080 when it was 80.
Thank you!
I am happy to hear you are able use MMS with your windows phone. Glad you were able to find smartphonematters.

OMG!! THANK YOU!! I gave an old windows phone to my brother and we talked to tech support like 5 times and they didn’t help at all. I tried putting in the information straight talk gave me every which way and hours later.. still nothing!! I Google and got this website and in 1 hour he was up an running like new!
You must know that people need pictures AND directions and I loved how the settings were put into where you at so you didn’t have to go back and forth or write stuff down! So grateful, KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK!!
Hi Amanda,
That is great news. I am glad that windows phone is working now. You got it right when you say pictures and directions combined make this a heck of a lot easier. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

OMG!! THANK YOU!!
Question. I have a straight talk phone, but I want to put all of the info from that phone into the windows 8 phone that I am going to get. How would you propose I do that?
Hi Robert,
I assume you mean you want to backup all your data like contacts, calendar, photos, etc from your Net10 phone and restore them to your new Windows 8 phone.
You did not mention what type of straight talk phone you are using. If you are using an Android phone, microsoft has a web site with some options here:

I have done all of these steps and still can not send nor receive mms messages. I have called tech support but they have not helped very much. I have a Nokia Lumia 635. If you have any more advice please let me know immediately.
And I will add that I was with Verizon but switched to straight talk and this is an AT&T phone.
You can send me screenshots of your Internet and MMS APN settings if you want.

I have the same thing can u tell me what settings did u use
Loretta,
Did you follow the instructions and look up your APN on the Straight Talk website? what was your APN?
Thank you, I bought a new unlocked Windows phone to use on NET10, which I have been using for 2 years. I could access the Internet, but could not send or receive pictures or group texts. Couldn’t find out why, but your screen shots showed me where I had filled in tooooo much and what I had left blank since Net10 didn’t list anything under the WAP gateway.

I followed all instructions and even installed the network setup App for my Lumia 900. It works great now with sending and receiving picture messages but I can’t send videos…Isn’t it part of MMS?? How do I get it to work? When I try to attach a file to send MMS, videos aren’t an option, just pics.
Hi Jenny,
I don’t thin the Lumia 900 supported sending video using MMS. This review seems to confirm that. http://www.techradar.com/us/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/nokia-lumia-900-1075331/review/4
They may have added the feature in a later software update. check to see if your phone is up to date.

Please help me with my Nokia Lumia 635 windows 8. I can’t send picture message or receive a picture message
Hi Sam,
Did you follow the instructions in this guide and set up your MMS APN?
Regards
Bob
Thank you so much for the instructions Mr. Thompson. They are easy to do! I have the Nokia Lumia 635 that I purchased from AT&T gophone then switched to straighttalk. I had no problems with the internet set up. The only issue I had was the mms text. In addition to your instructions, I had to enter 99999 in the Maximum MMS size and change the IP type to IPv4 (Thanks John for posting that tip!)
Hi Donna,
Thanks for taking the time to comment and share how you got you GoPhone Lumia 635 working. I am glad to hear you where able to follow the instructions. I did not need to get the MMS size and IP type to get my phone working. I am glad that John took the time to share that adding those values did the trick for him.

for some reason it was working fine now like 2 days I can’t receive pictures or send pic to anyone
Hi Bob,
My wife just got the 900 and I can’t seem to get the MMS settings correct. I downloaded the network setup app and entered tfdata for the internet apn, but I’m not sure about the MMS settings. The slots I have are as follows:
MMS access point name
Proxy address
Proxy Port
Username
Password
MMSC address
I know to leave the user name/password blank, but I have tried several different settings and no luck. Please help.
-Mike
Hi Mike,
Look on page 6 of this guide. The settings are there.
Thank you so much, I must have typed in the wrong address before, but the first setting on the list worked for me. Thank you thank you thank you.
