I Am Installing iOS 7 on My iPhone 5 Right Now!

UPDATE 7
I had a pretty hard time SIM swapping. After removing the t-Mobile SIM and re-insert my Net10 ATT SIM, Cellular Data Network had disappeared before I could get back. I could do this on iOS 6 with little effort. I changed my technique. I now entered Cellular Data Network with the T-Mobile SIM in the iPhone while the status bar showing Searching… I removed the T-Mobile SIM, and re-inserted my NEt10 AT&T SIM before the iPhone would recognize that the SIM was removed. This took me between 6-12 attempts. Finally, I got my iPhone to recognize my Net10 AT&T SIM while I still on the Cellular Data Network page for the T-Mobile SIM. At this point, I entered my APN values. there was another problem, the iPhone would keep changing my Data APN, MMS APN, and MMS Proxy Values back to the incorrect ATT values. I had to reenter them another 5 to 6 times before I had all the values correct. I tapped Cellular and to go back up a level in Settings.

This was the second time, I was able to do this. It was much easier than the first time, but no where as easy as it wad for me with iOS 7.

UPDATE 6
I had to SIM swap again after restoring my iPhone back up. I wanted to see if I could do it a second time. It took a number of tries. But I got it to work after a half dozen times.

UPDATE 5
I finally got it to work. I had to remain in Cellular Data Network after putting the T-Mobile SIM in, and then SIM swap. I did this many times. I finally was able to get it to work.

UPDATE 4
Sill not able to SIM swap. After iPhone reset, the iPhone doesn’t recognize shows No SIM after swapping SIMs…

UPDATE 3
I have not successfully SIM swapped yet. When I put the Net10 SIM back in the phone I can’t get to Cellular Data Network. I did manage at one point to stay in Cellular Data Network by entering with the T-Mobile SIM in and very quickly swapping in my Net10 SIM. The iPhone recognized the Net10 SIM and populated the ATT values over the T-Mobile ones. The problem was as I edited the values, it kept changing them back.

I am doing an restore iPhone from iTunes and I am going to try with a fresh install….

UPDATE 2
I tried the SIM swap this morning. So far I have been able to see the Cellular Data Network settings when putting the T-Mobile SIM in. It disappears after I put my Net10 SIM back in… So far, I am NOT able to SIM swap. I am still working on it.

UPDATE:
I did the iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. It worked. I had the Net10 APN profile installed. The profile remained after the upgrade. My data is working fine. I don’t know if you will need to sim swap again if you used that method. I’ll be testing that later tonight.

I can also confirm, that the Cellular Data Network option is still hidden in iOS 7 with my Net 10 wireless ATT compatible SIM card installed.

I am installing as I write this. I will let you know how it goes.

Regards the sim swap. I couldn’t get the apn setting to stay visible when swapping back to straight talk sim. The only way was to get to apn settings with t-mobile sim in,then power down phone, swap sim to straight talk sim and then power up. apn settings came up and was able to chang them.

      Hi Nick,
thanks for sharing your tip. My iOS 7 guide shares another way. With the t-mobile SIM in, tap HOME, the notes, put the ST SIM back in and after the phone recognizes it use the multitasking bar to go back to settings. Glad you found a way in, that is all that really matters.
      Regards
      Bob

I have an AT&T iPhone 4 with a Net 10 SIM card. I want to know if I will be able to change my APN cellular data settings once I update. Will I have to jailbreak my phone?

    • Bob Thompson | | Reply

      Hi Amber,
I was able to. I updated to iOS 7.0 and then iOS 7.0.2. I could get data working by installing the APN profile and SIM swapping. A couple people have reported a problem with the SIM swap and iOS 7.0.2 so I dont know if there is an issue there. too early to tell.
Let me know if you need more help.
      Regards

      Hi Seema,
Are you SIM swapping or just expecting Cellular Data Network to be there because your iPhone is unlocked. Are you using Straight Talk or Net 10? the T-Mobile or ATT SIM?
      Regards
      Bob

            Hi
Is it asking you to activate after asking you to set up a wireless internet connection (Wi-Fi)?
do You have a wi-Fi connection?

Hey Tom, I believe that I have found a simple fix to the sim-swap method issues for ios7. I turned my iphone off and placed the dummy Tmobile sim into my phone while the device was off, then powered on. Then entered the settings, cellular, cellular data network. THEN BEFORE I SWAPPED BACK TO MY SIM I SIMPLY HIT THE HOME BUTTON TO GO BACK TO THE HOME SCREEN, SWAPPED SIMS, THEN HIT SETTINGS SENDING ME RIGHT BACK TO CELL DATA NETWORK TO ENTER THE VALUES. Word like a charm. No retry.. Then once the settings were entered I backed out and turned airplane mode on for 30 seconds to make the values stick, rebooted and no i have data and mms on ios7:):)

This makes my internet very slow if you can help with that

      Sheniqua,
thanks for sharing the link to the video. So he may have found an easier way into Cellular Data Network. cool.
But you are saying your data is really slow now?

Do you see a 3G or 4G in your status bar when you test your data?

      • Sheniquia | | Reply

        Yes very
        Didn’t see 3 or 4

          • Sheniquia | |

            I saw E

          • Bob Thompson | |

That means you are only getting a 2G data connection.
            Check your Settings -> Cellular
Do you have an option to enable 3G? if it is off turn in on. If it is on turn it off and on again.
Restart your phone. You are looking for the E to change to a 3G or a 4G

          • Sheniquia | |

So I went back using my straight sim I change the celluar data to on and enable 3G to on and I did the sim swap again the internet work fast but still no pic massage

          • Sheniquia | |

3G showing still can’t send pic

          • Bob Thompson | |

            ok.
Your original comment was that your data was slow. Is it as fast as it was before you upgraded?
If you can’t send an MMS picture message, you may not have entered the coreect values after you SIM swapped.
            try
            APN: att.mvno

            MMS: att.mvno
            MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
            MMS Proxy 66.209.11.33:80
            Message SIZE 1048576

          • Sheniquia | |

All be for I never used MMS PORT 80
            MMS_APN att.mvno
            On the ios6

I look at straight talk site and the included it in there settings

I don’t know if this will help u or not
I as posted the say thing on Apple site and some one said this
The AT&T carrier file (and 15.0 is the latest one) will override what you have tried to set for APN settings. It has the AT&T settings now. If you can access the APN settings, then change them back to the Straight Talk ones. I’m afraid however, that the updated AT&T carrier file will have closed your ability to access the APN settings.

          • Bob Thompson | |

            Hi,
I copied and pasted the settings I had in my inbox from our email exchange in back in July. The default port is usually 80 so sometimes people leave it out.

One thing to check is that you did not install an APN profile and forget the remove it. If you did data will work but not MMS. More then likely, you will need to SIM swap again and try the values. When I was entering my values the iPhone kept changing them on me, so you will have to keep an eye on that.

            Bob

          • Sheniquia | |

            It’s working fast now

Hey Bob im having a terrible time trying to get my data/mms working after ios7 update. I’ve read your suggestions here and once I remove the blank tmobile sim while in Cell Data Network it pops up no sim and im exited from entering the values ;/ Any suggestions?

        • Bob Thompson | | Reply

          Hi ThIpp,
I had the problem for a while too. After I installed iOS 7 the second time to do the iPhone Restore from iTunes. I ran into a stretch of time where as soon as I removed a SIM the iPhone No Sim dialog came up. My phone would say NO SIM when I put my Net10 SIM back in. I just kept doing it. and doing it. I mostly focused on getting into Cellular Data Network as soon as I put the T-Mobile SIM in. While the status bar still showed Searching for a network. I would as quick as I could remove the T-Mobile sim and jam the Net10 SIM back in. Most times I was too slow and it would disappear. A few times I would get it to recogize the Net10 ATT SIM while I was still on the CDN page. Then I battled with it overwriting my options.

with iOS 6, once I figured out how to SIM swap I could do it with ease. With iOS 7, i have managed to do it twice. If you really need MMS, keep trying. I have been working on updating the guides for iOS 7. At some point, I need to try SIM swapping some more to see if I can figure out a quicker and more reliable set of steps.

the funny thing is, I don’t even use MMS enough to miss it. I am just working on it at this point because so many people use my guides and i wanted to keep them relevant.

Keep in mind that getting into CDN is a timing issue. I wonder if running a bunch of apps on the phone to slow it down would make it easier? At one point I was thinking of ordering some extra SIM trays from eBay so that I could swap sims without having to remove and inser them into the tray.

If you look through the other comments on smartphonematters.com a number of people are reporting they are getting it to work seemingly without the difficulty you and I have.

IF you can live without MMS, you can install the APN profile for data. That works without a problem for me.

Let me know how you make out.
          Regards
          Bob

    Hi Bob,

Just wanted to let you know after using your IOS 7 SIM swap instructions under update 5 our iPhone 4 is working perfect once again. Thanks for taking the time to figure out what needed to be done under IOS 7 (and previous versions as well). One thing that happened during the swap and maybe you experienced the same thing was when the T-Mobile SIM was removed the phone went back one menu level, we completed the swap and went back into the cellular data menu and the option we needed that is provided by the T-Mobile SIM was still present.

    iOS 7 help

I have iPhone 4 with stright talk it did my update and every thing works but not my pic messages

    APN Settings
    FIELD SETTINGS
    NAME STRAIGHT_TALK
    APN att.mvno
    MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS PROXY 66.209.11.33
    MMS PORT 80
    MMS_APN att.mvno
Updating your APN settings does not guarantee that MMS (Multimedia/Picture Messaging) will work. MMS is dependent upon your phone model’s limitations. If you have an iPhone and you would like to use MMS, you may need further changes in your iPhone in order to update your MMS settings. You may search online for more information.

Apple iPhone – Internet and MMS (iOS 6 or later)
Go to “Settings,” tap “WiFi” and temporarily turn it OFF.
Back in “Settings,” scroll down to “Messages” and tap to open it. Make sure “MMS” is OFF.
Go back to “Settings,” tap “General” and then “Cellular.” Make sure “Enable 3G” is OFF and “Data Roaming” is ON.
Scroll down and tap “Cellular Data Network.”
Under “Cellular Data Network,” enter the information provided in the table on the left for the APN Settings.
Click on the HOME key to go back to the main phone screen.
Go back to “Settings” one more time, scroll down and tap “Messages” and turn it ON.
Press the HOME key and you are set to send and receive MMS!
Once you have set it up and tested to see it works, you can re-enable “WiFi,” turn OFF “Data Roaming” and turn ON “3G” (or leave it OFF if you’re not in a 3G area for AT&T devices on our network).

      Hi Sheniquia,
I don’t have an updated guide for iOS 7 yet. I was able to SIM swap twice today. I had a much harder time getting into Cellular Data Network myself. I remember you were able to get it working for iOS 6. Yuor setting you have look correct, you might want to add the MMS UA Prof URL. See my Net10 FAQ Net10 Data, Internet and MMS APN Frequently Asked Questions.

For now, follow the iOS 6 guide and the FAQ above.

      Regards
      Bob

          Hi Sheniqia
I had a difficult time getting the SIM swap to work for me too. I had to try a number of times. Read what I wrote on this page. Other readers are commenting that they have had an easier time than I had. If I find an more reliable way to SIM swap or a better method to set up MMS, I’ll update smartphonematters.com. iOS 7 has only been released for a day. If MMS is very important to you, consider restoring to an older version of iOS.

Keep checking the web site for updates.
          Regards
          Bob
