I started this web site, after found out about just how much it costs to own a smartphone like Apple’s iPhone. I learned first hand about how to reduce my bill by switching to prepaid service.

Aug. is First month of 5Gs of data and on the 19th got a text msg from TracFone stating throttling was about to begin. Checking settings on TracFone speciffic LG L38C total data used was less then 3 MGS. . .Texting “useage” to 611-611 and return text msg from TracFone stated 3.91Gs of total data used. No amount of effort gains an explanation of policy or procedures or how to track my total data useage bsfore throttling begins. Criminal. Fraudulant.
I do not have any problems with the phone service in San Jose CA..
Hi Daryl,
I’d call Straight Talk or Net10 and ask them about it. Ask them if you are on the 5GB plan and if so, why are you throttled?
Did the message say “You are reaching your limit of high speed usage. please visit..” or something else? Is your data actually throttled now? You can measure your data speed using
Using SpeedTest to Measure Your Internet Speed
When they first increased data from 3GB to 5GB, it was only from BYOP customers, not customer who bought their phones directly from them. It seems they recently changed that policy to include both. Perhaps you are not on the 5GB plan yet, or more likely they screwed up. I hear from readers with similar issues regarding being throttled. I can’t speak to tracfone’s motivations, but my personal option is that it is more mismanagement that deliberate fraud or criminal behavior. But that is only my opinion.

Bob
I have an iPhone 4 and i have Net10 Wireless and my 3G icon is not showing up on the upper left corner and i can not use the Internet. Also, i am sure that i didn’t use my 1.5 GB because i payed my phone bill the other day and it still was not working
Hi Nas,
Try installing each of these three Carrier APN Profiles, and then test your data connection.
Go to Settings->General->Profiles and check if any profile is alread installed. If so, look at the descripton or advanced screen and note the APN value. it would look like wpa.tracfone, att.mvno, tfdata.
Remove that profile, test each of the three profiles.

Follow the instructions on how to test data in this guide: http://smartphonematters.com/guides/how-to-setup-straighttalk-wireless-data-and-mms-for-ios-6/
Let me know how it goes.

I tried all of these and none of them worked for me the 3G icon still has not appeared and my iPhone Internet only works under WiFi
Hi Nas,
I do not know what the problem is. You may need to call net10. Here is a list of things i would try.
1. Check that cellular data is on in Settings->General->Cellular (toggle it off and on)
2. turn on airplane mode, restart the phone, turn it off
3. Go to Settings General Reset and reset your network settings. You will need to re enter all your wifi passwords.

Bob
Let me know how it goes.

I have an iPhone4 with NET10 but recently my 3G icon disappeared and I have no internet? Do I have to go back to where I got my phone activated??
Hi Viri,
Sorry to hear about your data. Are you a heavy data user? Is it possible that you hit your 1.5GB data cap for the month. Let me know, if not, we can try to figure out what is going on.
Best
Bob
I have an AT&T unlocked iPhone 4 with straight talk I can not receive pic mail every thing else is working. How do I get picture mail
H Marva,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
I was able to get MMS or picture messaging working on my iPhone 5 using the “SIM Swap Method”. See Method 2 on this page.

Have you tried the method i described in my guide?
