Switching Two AT&T iPhone 4s to Straight Talk Wireless

Hi Bob,
I came across your site and was GLAD since I am so confused as how to set up mine and my wife’s iphone 4s phones. They are both with AT&T and both unlocked. I purchased a sim from ebay but purchased a $45 straight talk unlimited data plan card for our service. I just realized that on the back of the service card it says “For Use With Straight Talk Phones Only” so I am guessing I am out the money and have to get a service plan that caters to iPhones? Also, I am following your guide but do we switch sims and access data card FIRST before switching our APN settings through your guide? Thanks for your time. I would also like to find out how long our phones will be “down” during this process as they are both used for our home business.
Thanks

Hi Donnie,
I think the $45 dollar service card you bought will work fine with your iPhone 4s using Straight Talk’s Bring Your Own Phone Plan.

Here are some tips that might help.

I assume you are going to transfer your service from AT&T to Straight Talk, that is move your phone number. Make sure you know the PIN for your ATT account and the account number. I’d call Straight Talk to do the transfer, the last two number transfers I tried from the web site did not go smoothly and I had to call them anyway. If your phone is activated with as a new account with a new number, you’ll have to wait for them to mail you a new SIM for them to be able to transfer your number.

Plan to have up to 2 free hours when you switch, their telephone support is time consuming. Plan your move at a time when you don’t need your phone for business. Your ATT account will remain active until the transfer is complete, once complete your ATT account will be closed.

After your Straight Talk accounts are activated, you can follow my guide to set up data and MMS picture messages. It might just work automatically. You may also find that you won’t receive MMS picture messages for a few days. You would be able to get pictures from other iPhone uses because those pictures are sent using your data connection rather then MMS.

I hope this answers your questions. Let me know how it goes.
