Tracfone $80 For One Year of Service

My Tracfone service was going to expire in September so I added another year of service for $80 plus taxes and fees. Below I’ll describe how and why I did it.

If you read smartphonematters.com or watch my YouTube channel I was a big fan of the $50 1 Year of Service that Tracfone used to sell. Sometime last year, Tracfone removed that option for customer using their own smartphones with Tracfone’s service. Some customers that bought their phone from Tracfone directly report that they are still able to buy the add-on but many of us no longer can. The cool thing about that add-on was that for $50 you would add 365 service days to you line, but not minutes, texts, and megabytes. The entire $50 was used to pay for service days which is perfect for people with modest needs and already have a large balance of unused minutes.

You can read more about the $50 add-on here Add 1 Year of Service to Your Tracfone Account and here Tracfone Discontinued $50 One Year Service Days Add On.

I keep a smartphone with Tracfone service around as a second phone. I don’t use a lot of minutes or data but having an second phone is very helpful for the things I do for smartphonematters.com and my YouTube channel. It’s also a great way to have an active smartphone without spending a lot of money on service.

I was disappointed to lose the $50 One Year of Service days option. The cheapest alternative I could come up with was for $80. I bought four 90 days for $20 each giving me almost one year of service days. I chose the $20 Basic phone plan and added four. Many people do not understand that each time you add a plan it moves your service end date out that number of days. Some people people think adding multiple 90 day plans will only give them 90 days.

The basic phone plan I chose included 60 minutes, 60 texts, and 60 mb of data. Buying four of these plans would some out to $80 for 240 minutes, texts, MB and 360 service days. Because my phone still qualifies for 3X minutes I got 720 minutes, texts, MB, and 360 service days. The cheapest one year plan was $100 so this was 20% less expensive.

I bought my plans online from tracfone.com through my account. If you do this, take aa few minutes to google search for tracfone promo codes. You can save a few dollars or get some bonus minutes.

What about you? Have you found a cheaper way to get one year of service with your Tracfone? Leave a reply below and share
