Using a No Contract Phone with Verizon

YouTuber, Protector K9 asks.

Can I use the prepaid phones on contract service. my note 9 is damaged and i need new phone but do not qualify for upgrade. so I need a phone.

I’ve never tried this so I can’t say for certain. Your question is very broad so I’m not exactly sure what you want to try.

A Non contract phone from any other service is unlikely to work with Verizon. The phones are usually locked to prevent consumers from buying the phones to use with some other service. If you buy a no contract prepaid phone from Verizon simply move the SIM from your Note 9 it might work. Note that anytime you switch to a new phone with Verizon you are supposed to activate that phone by providing Verizon with the phone’s serial number. (MEID). In the past, this was an absolute requirement, because Verizon used CDMA technology. Moving SIM cards between Verizon phones works, its never clear whether or not it causes problems.

Depending on your budget, you may find a good deal on a Motorola E or G series phone that is unlocked and compatible with the Verizon network. Consider reviewing your overall costs for Verizon post paid. You may find you can reduce your overall spend and buy a new phone by switching to prepaid wireless. There are many options. If you want to use the Verizon towers, Verizon Prepaid and Visible are excellent options to look at.
